product description
In life, there are men and there are gods. In fishing, there are fishing reels, and then there's the Shimano Metanium DC.
Yes, its just fishing reel, but just like it would be an insult to say a Ferrari or classic Corvette is just a car, Shozaburo Shimano would likely be rolling in his grave if he heard the Metanium DC referred to as just a fishing reel; this thing is divine.
Jam-packed with Shimano's latest technologies, the Shimano Metanium DC Baitcasting Reel combines tournament-grade versatility, high-performance gearing, and intelligent electronics in a lightweight package. It has a 10-bearing drag system (9BB + 1RB) with a maximum of 11 lbs of drag. It also boasts the Digital Control braking system that utilizes a microcomputer to monitor spool speed 1,000 times every second and precisely apply the perfect amount of pressure, so you can cast a country mile and never have to worry about backlash. Additionally, its Hagane body exhibits strong performance and does not tilt or warp despite its light weight. And to top it all off, the Metanium DC is fortified with Shimano's newest set of reel technologies: X-Ship technology for more smoothness and durability, MicroModule Gearing to ensure frictionless gyration, and S3D for consistent spool control and brake force.
Available in 7.4:1 and 8.5:1 Gear Ratios in both Left and Right Hand retrieve.

Questions about Shimano Metanium Dc Low Profile Reels
Q:
Is this the newest version of this reeel?
Answer: is this a low profile reel
Answer: Yup
Q:
Does the digital control prevent backlashing? What kind of battery(s) does it take?
Answer: The battery of digital control is attached to the reel so it can be used as it is !!
Answer: There is no battery required. The DC greatly reduces backlash probability but if it's out of tune and you throw it haphazardly, you can still create a backlash, although likely that you'll never have a significant backlash. If you tighten the external brake properly, you'll probably never incur the dreaded birds nest.
Q:
Does anybody know what this reel weighs?
Answer: It a very light reel
Q:
Why is release on 2015 but it said 2018 model?
Answer: it is the latest release
Q:
Does the user manual come in different languages?
Q:
Left handed the spin on the right or left?
Answer: I'm right handed, but I prefer the handle in my left hand for immediate retrieval whence the lure hits the water. They sell right and left handed reels. I dont believe you can remove the handle and switch it to either side. Just starting season 2 with the metanium. Great investment
Answer: Left
Q:
How light of lure can you throw? And whats the life expectancy of the braking system
Answer: Depending on how tight you set the brakes and what type and weight line you use I use 15 floro and toss weightless plastics without any issues
Q:
Is dc xg later model?
Answer: No, Dcxg is the left handed model
Q:
Does this reel make the neat little whirring sound when casting?
Answer: Yes. U have to throw it with enough force to make it work

Q:

Answer: Your sister
Q:

Q:
What are adavantages for this metanium dc over a curado dc?
Answer: I’ve been doing a lot of bass fishing I have the curado dc as well, unless you use braid (and your only gona get like 10 more yards further) your just paying to be able to say yes I have a metanium
Q:
Is this a finesse reel?
Answer: It can be used for finesse fishing but it all depends on how confident you are at throwing light lures
Q:
Whats the difference in 7.4:1 & 8.5:1?
Answer: 8.5.1 will return more line cause its an extra gear.... so lets say 7.4.1 brings in 15ft per crank the 8.5.1 will bring in 20ft
Q:
This Reel using Fresh water or saltwater
Answer: Fresh water
Q:
Does it have a spot to store your hook on the body?
Q:
How does it cast very light lures?
Answer: I cast 15lbs floro and only a #4 hook with weightless stick baits. It’s great once you learn the brake system but if your casting flies and something that light get a spin cast. This is my favorite bait caster
Answer: For anything less than 3/8 ounce I would recommend the Curado MGL 70. It has a smaller spool which is meant for throwing lighter lures.
Q:
How long does battery last and what kind of battery
Answer: This reel recharges with each cast and needs no battery or power source.
Answer: No battery’s needed, it charges internally with every cast.
Answer: It’s charged by reeling
Q:
Which one is left hand retrieve
Answer: The left hand reel is the 101HG /101XG depending your desired gear ratio. The left hand retrieve is always the odd number when ordering from Shimano, the 100HG/100XG is the right hand retrieve.
Answer: The two models ending in 101 are the left hand retrieve versions.
Q:
Anybody know what the drag washers are made of ?
Answer: Very happy with it they are expensive but I have 4 and I love them
Q:
What ratio is this real what ratio is this real
Answer: The HG model is 7.4 to 1. XG is 8.5 to 1. I have both reels. They are outstanding reels. 7.4 works best for most applications. I use 8.5 for walking jigs, worms and other baits where you need to reel up slack quickly.
Q:
It’s made in Japan?
Answer: Yes, the reel is made on Japan!
Q:
What does the A setting do on the brakes?
Answer: The AUTO position will provide adequate braking for that wide range of baits (1/4 to 1 oz), but selection of one of the numbered brake positions will give a more optimum braking
Answer: A setting is for auto
Product reviews of Shimano Metanium Dc Low Profile Reels
Leonardo : perfect! it the machine!!!
all set, is the best reel in the world!
CB : Impressive Bearings and skips lures like a pro.
First thing right out the box the bearings are awesome!!!! I’ve tried and tried different bearings over the years and found what I was looking for in this reel. As for the dc part it’s cool but I still cast this bait caster just like any other thumb on or near spool till it hits the water. The dc brakes are a little more quiet to me then the curado dc. Only thing I don’t like and why they can’t shim it or something for this reel is it still has a little play when push or pull in and out on the crank. Not as bad as the curado k but some. Would I buy again yes. Everyone should have at least 1 dc reel. You put this reel on auto or 4 and skip lures like a pro under cover and docks. Also this reel doesn’t need to be super tuned or bearings changed it fine right out the box.
Jack in the box : Top quality.
I pair this reel with st croix legend extreme 7'6 med heavy, mod fast rod,
Works amazing, does not eliminate back lash, but does cut down the chances. if setup correctly and not care for distance it would not backlash, strong brake, feels good on hand, love it
A bit expensive, if you like top quality equipment this is it...
Daniel : Amazing.
Smooth reel that cast a mile.
Titty is fishing! : It's pretty badass!
Absolutely the best reel I have ever owned! I have had it for about a month or so and it has performed flawlessly! Super easy to dial in with your preferred line, bait, and weight. Accommodates to weight change with no problem. Unbelievably SMOOTH! I put it on a Favorite 7'4" BIG SEXY Medium/ Heavy - Fast Action rod! I highly recommend this if it is within your fishing budget! Just kidding, there is no budget when it comes to fishing! Fish on, baby!
Joe Joe : Wrong and used reel was sent, returned for money back.
This is ridiculous! I spent $500+ dollars for a Shimano Metenium DC HG and instead get a box for a Shimano SLX XT 151XG! That’s not all, noOo! Inside the box, was a Shimano SLX 150 HG! And get this... spooled and all! How the heck did this happen?? I should have instead gone to Bass Pro Shop or Cabelas, what a waist of time. Not happy!
