Answer: Absolutely! It can handle from 8lb test to 35lb test with grace and ease. Set your centrifugal brake with 2, then do the drop test of your lure and this reel will cast perfectly every time! Side cover pops off easily and it can even be oiled from an outside screw. I have 5 of these, the Piscifun Perseus is the best reel you will ever own!! I should know, I’ve been fishing for 45 years.

I use Piscifun’s yellow braided and their fantastic new green 30LB test braided that’s called “Lunker” line, and it is about half the thickness of regular 30LB test braided. I’ve caught fish that seemed like they were 100 yards away and my line spool was still over half full. It holds a lot of line! Buy this reel! I have 4 of them, and love them. Backlash is a thing of the past with the Perseus.

I really like this reel, what really caught my attention was the dual breaking system. I had done some research on this company and heard mostly good things about these reels. Some of the products were either unavailable or discontinued so when I learned this one was on clearance I decided to purchase it before they were all gone. I am not disappointed the reel performs well, very smooth operating well put together an all around good reel. Tight lines y'all!

Lancaster : Poor durability

The reel seemed great at first. Very reasonably priced. It casted well at first and the drag system worked smoothly; it still does. However, it does not last. It has only been used about fifteen times total; very light use in saltwater and never sprayed with saltwater, much less submerged. Wiped down with freshwater rag after every session. As of several times using it ago, the cast control system is completely shot. Both of them. With all six pins of the centrifugal system engaged and the magnetic cast control on ten (maximum), the spool spins with absolutely no resistance. I am very disappointed. Next time I will buy a more expensive product from a more reputable brand.

Also runs just as smooth, the only difference would be the 6:3:1 gear ratio for a slower more moderate steady retrieve that works great for many hard plastic and soft plastic lures and baits. After putting this reel to the test I'd have to say that the Perseus is another great reel that gets the job done on the water especially with the 18.5lbs drag. I highly recommended this reel if you fish in between a high gear ratio and a slower gear ratio reel, then this reel is for you whether you are a seasoned angler or someone just getting started in fishing this reel is for you! This Reel is hands down one of the best baitcasters i have ever used. right out of the box the reel feels like butter. fits perfecty in my hand when its on the rod. the grips are comfortable. i been using this reel a lot lately for topwater baits (walk the dog action) and this reel doesnt hurt my wrist. it is light weight. plug the drag system is amazing. i fish around timber and rock piles a lot and this reels drag systems allows me to yank these bass out of the thickest structure with ease. The dual break system allows me to have full control over the spool when i am casting. i dont backlash as often when setting this dual break system properly. the paint job is also awesome. the paint doesnt chip off easy and has a nice finnish to it. this is a all arpund awesome reel. i spooled mine with piscifuns lunker braid with a pline flouro leader. this reel with braid is incredible. i highly recommend this baitcaster to anyone who is on the market looking to buy one. look no further because this reel is a must have. you will not be dissapointed.

It's meh. I'm fairly underwhelmed with it. I had it on a 6' rod and a 6'6" rod. I tried 12 lb fluorocarbon and 10 lb braid. With each setup it just struggled to cast. Magnetic brakes were completely off and it would still struggle. Maybe could get out to 15 feet. If you went too loose on the tension it would backlash. It does look cool though. For the same amount of money I'd go with a kastking. I have their cirxus reel in the same gear ratio and it's a night and day difference. Smoother than my Lew's pro! Even with 15 lb braid on a 6'6" rod the kastking triples the distance on this reel. Just save your money unless you want to buy mine off Craigslist!

No matter how it was set up the thing would backlash almost every cast. I would keep the thing over tightened so the lure barely dropped. Some times depending on lure weight I would tighten it so that it wouldn’t drop at all and the thing would still backlash. I threw it in the river with disgust. I will never own another one.

This seems to be s pretty decent reel for $40. Smooth and casts a a reasonable distance. The issue i have with this reel is the star drag works opposite of every star drag reel i have ever owned. Turning. Clockwise loosens the drag and counterclockwise tightens. I have contacted their fantastic customer service and they are sending a right hand crank reel which operates in the normal fashion. Im still awaiting the new reel.

I got this for my wife. Waited a week for it to come in. It came in the mail today. It felt and looked awesome! Put some line on it to try it out, and it all went downhill from there. I had both the centrifugal and magnetic brakes all the way on, with the fine tuning knob tightened ALL THE WAY DOWN, and the lure would fall as if there were no brakes at all. It would free fall, no matter what I tried to adjust. I just want to freaking go out and fish with my wife, I don't have time for all these people's shenanigans.. how am I supposed to "fish with family" now, huh?

Love the reel works great and all the components are beefy. Bearings are actually press sealed, very impressed. Only thing is the drag gets a little “choppy” when you crank it down. Open it up put some drag grease on the washers and it’s butter smooth.

I tried 10-30# test in both mono and braid, paired with 1/2 to 1 oz lures with light to no wind and varied my casting technique. I put the wind to my face, side, back, nothing mattered. No matter what combination of line and lure weight I tried this reel backlashes BAD!!! EVERY CAST!!!! The spool tensioner is terrible for minute adjustments and the spool is small compared to my previous baitcasters. Looks great, feels great, great price, but it just plain doesn’t work. I’ve never had a baitcasting reel suck this bad. The spool tensioner doesn’t allow you to really get the reel dialed in for the lure. The lure either drops too fast or not at all. I believe that’s the primary issue (I’m not an expert).

Like the dual brakes. It is a little more bulky then I expected, but still a nice reel. I use it on my crank bait set up, but that will probably change. Really a great value for what you get. It’s pretty smooth and I haven’t had any problems with it. The tension knob seems tight and hard to turn, but that might just be mine. The pair job is really nice on the reel.

Let me start off by saying that I have been a fan of piscifun and have bought other items that I am happy with, but this reel is not one of those items. I have been fishing with bait casting reels for 25 years and I was extremely excited to order this one at a decent price. When I opened the box I was excited to see the look of the reel and a quick feel and function test of the reel made it seem that it was going to be a good purchase. I lined the reel with Pline 12 pound fluorocarbon line and took it out the very next day. I tied on a chatterbait and dialed the reel in as I've done hundreds of times before by setting the spool tension to allow the bait to slowly fall at steady rate and then the brake to about half way (5). First cast was conservative and I pulled out a small two pound bass with no problem. The next cast was a little more robust and resulted in a backlash and it only went down hill from there. I tried and tried all night to get the reel dialed in and I spent most of the night picking out bad backlash or at the minimum pulling out line on not so bad ones. I tried over and over to get the reel dialed in with no luck. I tied on a lighter crankbait and resulted in the same problem. My night was spent tinkering with the reel over and over while my buddy caught 20 fish. I came home the next day to get a fresh start and tried to dial the reel in while casting a practice lure in the front yard. Backlash after backlash after backlash. The only way that I could not produce a backlash was setting the drag to almost full, the spool tension to more than needed (where the lure would not fall at all even with shaking the rod), and the side brake to 10. Of course the cast was about 1/4 the distance that I wanted.
Another issue that I noticed was the drag. The drag did not ever appear to tighten down until it was cranked almost to full. I did not use my drag scale to see if I could achieve the 18 pounds of drag. It appeared to go from very light drag to almost stop with little adjustment available in between.
I hope that Piscifun spends some time listening and getting these problems fixed. I plan to return this reel and not so sure about ordering any further reels unless I can get this issue solved. It amazes me that so many people have given this reel a good rating. I wonder if the few of us that have had issues just got a bad reel? Piscifun I would be glad to try another reel like this one or another model bait casting reel to give it another try. Whatcha got??

Smooth high capacity, low profile reel with all the bells and whistles. Adjusts to compensate for different lure weights and backlash control is good. In fact, it's perfect if your thumb is experienced. It's a four star reel in a field cluttered with really good products. I fished it hard last weekend, throwing plastic frogs at the lily pads. Had to crank it hard to get through, often bringing the pads and stems with me. Wound smooth, handled the only fish well and generally did what it was supposed to without incident. If you have trouble with backlash, adjust the spool brake if you are really sincere. It just wasn't a problem for me or my son. But it's the price that makes it a five star choice. The most reel for the money. I intend to install one for inshore fishing for reds and sea trout.

I just bought the reel a week ago and I'm having some great fun with it. It works great in saltwater and freshwater. I've only had one problem with the reel so far, when bass fishing the other day I used some very light weight worms and the reel started backlashing A LOT. I had to switch to a heavier style lure, which stopped it from backlashing as much. Other than that 1 problem the reel is a BEAUTY, I'm definitely going to buy more Piscifun!!
