Loved this except the housing for the bearings were all gouged up like someone had tried to remove the bearings incorrectly. Did a return hoping the next reel will not have the same issue.

*** update. Got the new reel quick and it was grinding right out of the box. Garbage don't waste your money on this.

Cascadian Outdoors & Tech : Excellent starter centerpin reel!

If you are interested in float fishing with a centerpin reel but do not want to spend hundreds of dollars getting set up, then this is the reel for you. I had previously tried the cheap pot metal Russian made reels and was pretty disappointed and found the whole technique rather difficult. With this reel, I learned how to cast fairly quickly and have caught several steelhead and salmon using this. A good inexpensive rod to pair this reel with is the Shakespeare Wild series 10'6" ultralight spinning rod (WSSP1062UL). It has the perfect length handle configuration for a centerpin reel and casts small jigs or beads with some splitshot nicely with it. I would absolutely recommend getting this 4.75" diameter reel over the similar 4.5" or 4" reels, as I would not want a centerpin reel to be any smaller than this. Overall, I am pleased with the quality. The fit/finish is nice and mechanically it seems great. I was considering ordering ceramic ball bearings to replace the ones that come in the reel. I am glad I waited because the supplied bearings seems just fine and the reel spins freely for a ling time.
