This appears to astetically look like the stella. How does it compare in quality, drag etc. You could burn your drag on a tuna all day with a Stella?

Answer: I don't see much difference. Quality is better than Saragosa, Stradic, Thunnus and much better all the lesser types. The Twin Power is the best reel I've owned. I have played with the Stella and didn't see the value there.....

Answer: I never could get an answer to your question from any of the vendors. The older twin power wheels or in my opinion absolutely better than any of the new style. I like the 5000. It is light retrieves at An incredible rate of 6:2. And it has a hefty handle and can manage large fish up to 75 pounds. You could also jig with it if you wanted to.

Answer: Shimano did not come out with a new Twin Power SW for 2020, they came out with a new Twin Power FD Model.

Answer: Nope. This is the 2015 version. I have both versions. I have three of the older versions and prefer them as they are more robust and have a better crank lever for larger fish. I would say that the new version of Twin Power 5000 is more of a lighter inshore reel wherereas the older version is more of a surf reel capable of 50 -75 lb fish. I use 30lb power pro with it on the surf.

How would a reel like this (14000) size work at the cape cod canal? Is the casting distance nice on this reel?

Answer: The 14000 seems a bit large for reef casting IMHO. I use a 5000 with 250 yards of 30lb Power pro for a 13.3 foot Diawa Saltiga ballistic surf rod. I manage 50+ lb fish with this set. Try looking at the reels at Cabela and see if the size is good for you!

Which model should I purchase if I will spool 30 to 40 lb braided for surf and pier fishing.

Answer: A 4000 would do, pay attention to the gear ratios however.

I use this with a 13' Hatteras surf rod with 30 lb powerpro superslick. It is very nice to retrieve the line so quickly. I have used nothing better than this reel. I have five other Shimano reels that are quite good and less pricey. I like the Twin Power.

I purchased this reel February 2017 unfortunately had to move for my job and didn't get to use it till April 2019. I have used it on 3 fishing trips, caught maybe 10 small amber jacks. The reel started making a grinding noise so I took it to a authorized shamano reel repair shop in Florida. They discovered defective gears and want $130 to replace the bad parts.... cant believe that a expensive reel would only last 3 trips!!! Stay far away from these twin power reels...junk

Hi, I just bought this reel at a local shop for my dad for fathers day and we think it is a great reel. Very smooth. I feel that the reel is worth the extra money spent because of the quality. I just had my Penn 850ss tuned up for 32 dollars and I bought it 25 or 30 years ago. Some people buy cheap reels and replace them every few years so what are you really saving. At least that's what I tell myself when I hand over my credit card. Great reel we love it
