Will the Rain Ever Stop???? 2024

fishing user avatarFishTank reply :

I don't know about you guys but every time I have a day off to get out to fish, it has been raining and windy here in Indiana.  I usually don't mind fishing the rain but when the boat gets blown around the lake and a trolling motor and an anchor are pointless, I find it hard to get out on the water.

fishing user avatarSam reply :

Patience.

It will pass.

fishing user avatarKoz reply :

Thunderstorms all week here. I did manage to get in a few casts in during intervals between storms. Even caught my first 8 pounder - but it was a catfish ????

fishing user avatarblongfishing reply :

Same for me here in South Carolina. As luck would have it, the days that are supposed to be nice I have to work. Hopefully get out for a few hours sometime this week... Hopefully!

fishing user avatarHook2Jaw reply :

I fished in the downpour on Saturday and culled 35 dinks out of a local pond.  Lost a good one, tried to walk the log she wrapped up on, and ended up busting my tail.  I was soaked anyway, so I just toughed it.

fishing user avatarPickle_Power reply :

I share in your frustration!  My only good chance to fish for a few days was yesterday and it was crazy windy here in western Iowa.  I left my pond of choice in frustration due to boat control being impossible.  I was especially frustrated because I had caught a couple and knew they were biting if I could have presented baits properly.

fishing user avatarSpankey reply :

I’m dealing with all the above here in PA also. Water condition less than stellar. Suppose to be wet the majority of the week. Hope there are no flash floods and I stand a decent chance on the weekend. My wish is just less than selfish in comparison to many of you.

I know a lot of you guys got slammed and devastated recently with the rains. My life does not compare. Wish you all the better to get out of it. Be safe and god bless you.

fishing user avatarGlaucus reply :

It's been a ridiculous year. Unseasonably cold so far (getting to be better), and if it's not raining, the winds are 20+ mph. Things look to be turning around, however. Just in time for, like, 4 more months of fishing before it's over for us in the North again. I feel like we have been robbed of valuable time.

I also enjoy "have you ever seen the rain" and "who'll stop the rain" by credence

fishing user avatarLonnieP reply :

20 minutes after I launched my boat yesterday the bottom fell out of the sky and it poured down rain like you wouldn't believe. I toughed it out and caught several bass on a jig and a 5 pounder on a Squarebill. Last year my area had record setting rainfall amounts. 63.5 inches, highest since 1889.

fishing user avatarCatt reply :

Can't say we've had unseasonably high rains but rather heavy rains at the wrong times.

We're getting 30-35 mph Southernly winds in conjunction with strong high tides & with minimal low tides. Everything is backed up already so let's drop 8-10" of rain on top of that!

Hang in there folks, one day you'll be retired and you can wave at the working stiffs on your way to the lake. (Actually, I was on my way home from a little night fishing when I was waving.) Think I'll take a little nap now...life is good.

fishing user avatarGlenn reply :

2 years ago, we had record rainfalls (broke MANY centuries' old records), record flooding, landslides, etc.  while all y'all were enjoying terrific weather.  Now it's reversed.

We're having record dry spells; and record high temps are forcasted for this week.  It's been "summer" for the past 4 weeks already.

It ebbs and flows.

But I feel for you guys.  I've been through it, and it sucks.  Of course, now we're getting forest fires already, so it's not a perfect world.

fishing user avatarWRB reply :

Sometimes Mother Nature can be a *****. We enjoyed our rainy season but it's already a memory with a hot summer comming bringing with it the fire season with all the new growth. The upside is most all our lakes are in good shape with the exception of Casitas due to crazy environmentalist not allowing Ventura River deversion flow.

fishing user avatarTBAG reply :

Same here, if it's not raining the wind is blowing @15-30 mph. I primarily fish from a kayak and with the wind blowing like that I stay home. It's more of a chore than it is fun.

Where are some decent bank fishing spots in the Greenville area. I'm moving to Duncan next month. I'm not big on dink ponds and lakes - I'm looking for quality over quantity.

In central MI it stopped two days ago.  they yesterday we got 3 inches more.

fishing user avatargimruis reply :

I prefer fishing in the rain to be honest.  I'll take rain over sunshine any day of the week because warmth and sun brings out recreational riff raff.  Questionable weather keeps a lot of people off the lake...and the fishing is often better anyways because it means low pressure.

fishing user avatarlo n slo reply :

in western NC, the Catawba River basin is experiencing near record flooding after a weekend of 8’-12” rainfall in some areas and widespread 3”+ rainfall overall. Lookout Shoals and Mountain Island are both out of their banks with Lookout Shoals cresting at levels not seen since 1940. this massive effluent will make it’s way southward into the Wateree in SC.

Exact same for me almost all the time but I live in Seattle so I don’t have an excuse, lol.  And now, I’m too busy fish with work and other duties for now

fishing user avatarpadon reply :

I've been able to hit the lakes in my boat between the rains but my true love is summer kayak fishing on the Susquehanna.last year I went twice because the river was flooded most of the summer.on June 19 it will be a year since I've been on the river.not looking good the next.couple.of weeks either.

I fished in that same wind in Eastern Nebraska yesterday.  We left the house at 5 and the wind literally never laid down; not fun to control the boat in for sure.

fishing user avatarBassinCNY reply :

Yesterday was the first time we went more than 3 days without rain in 9 months. I tried to get in an hour of fishing between rain showers this evening but it poured on me. At least it was a warm rain.

fishing user avatarsoflabasser reply :

I have no problem fishing in the rain unless there is lighting. Yesterday I had to wait over 3 hours in my car since there was nonstop thunderstorms in the area I was fishing. The weather eventually calmed and I was able to save the fishing trip by catching some nice fish.

fishing user avatarKoz reply :

It's the same old story here day after day. Sunny and warm until about noon, but with 78% humidity. It clouds up and starts raining at noon, then at 4 pm the thunderstorms roll in and last until nightfall killing any chance of fishing after work. Occasionally I can get in a half hour to an hour of fishing between storms.

fishing user avatarTnRiver46 reply :

We had several straight days of off and on rain but today is sunny/ windy/ much less humid. It feels quite refreshing..... Guess I'll have to go fishing again.

Not after the lip sync incident of course

fishing user avatarKoz reply :

I suppose if it rains any more you might need one of these. I'm not sure what size trolling motor, though...

fishing user avatarCarol Knowles reply :

Of course it will... If you're anything like me, it'll be the first day you're busy and don't have a chance to get out on the water!

fishing user avatarKoz reply :

We got almost 5 inches of rain in the past few days, but today the rain has finally stopped! It's still cloudy for the umpteenth day in a row, but the sun returns in a few days. Best of all, temperatures will only be in the mid 80's.

It's kind of amazing how much I miss fishing when it's been too stormy to head out there. It won't bother me if I don't catch anything tonight - I'll just be glad to get out there.

fishing user avatarKsam1234 reply :

Same here man all it does is rain. This has been the worst spring in years that I can rmember.  Temps 80 and sunny one day and 42 and windy and rain the next 7 days.  Then 75 and rain. Or 80 and sunny but 30 mph winds ... please stop ! Lol

fishing user avatar1202FireMedic reply :

I don’t even look at the forecast anymore. I know it’s going to rain almost daily in Ohio.
