I live in ohio. Just wondering what state has the best bass fishing. And Why? I know it isnt Ohio....
You might want to check that poll, it doesn't make sense. You are asking who has the best bass and the answer options are "best" and "most"....????
Biggest bass are in Cali. (to date)
As for who has the most bass, that could go to any state. Just about every state has ponds/lakes where you can catch tons of bass, all day. They'll be smaller but they're bass.
I have to disagree I think all the states have big bass there just not being caught. The big gals don't do the 9am to 5pm like the pro's do. Just try fishing your favorite spot in the low light, early am just before sun up near the shore. try to pick a weed line or rocky point/drop off.
The bass supply isn't comming from the 4lb to 6lb bass its the bigger gals keeping the large amounts of little bass comming there 9lbs +.
Recently there was a 12lber killed by a weed machine being used to churn up the weeds in a local lake. That should of been a heads up as to whats really out there size wise but most of the local fisherman here didn't give it any thought. There thought is if there not catching them there isn't larger ones out there. I really think its an ego problem. Someday i hope its a little kid that breaks the state record here. The State DEP here with the shock boat can only work in the shallow water so who knows whats out there? These big gals are very smart or they wouldn't be that big. Trust me there out there......and feeding when were sleeping.
No matter were you live just fish your local spot and fish it heavy and you will see....I did and fished the same spot for 3 to 4 months everyday till i get burned out. Thats up at 3:30am everyday...its sleep...eat..& fish..eat...sleep again. I love this life...
Just go out there and have fun and practice with your lures and presitations and see what happens you will be surprised.
I the Ohio has the biggest smallmouth as far as consistant numbers. there are frequent 30 pound plus bass fron lake erie tourneys. that rivals normal floridas largemouy limits or execeeds them!
30 ib bass is a biggun like i have never seen, Maybe a typo error.
Think he is talking about five bass for weigh in
Adding to what BigBill said, A family found a Pike Jaw in WI on a beach. They saved it for several years and just recently took it to a taxidermist to estimate the size of the fish. He said it was at least the size of the current world record if not bigger. However, the biggest pike have historically come out of Canada. There are huge fish every where you just have to know where to look.

Yes it was a typo that would be a weight for weighed in!!

another typo that would be a weight for a 5 fish limit weighed in!!!
I see it like this.... I compare 2 days. One day is by the number. Constantly catchin 'em all day, avg. 2-5 lbs. The other day is a single catch that is 8+, and nothing else. Granted, that 8+ would definitely give me the shakes, but I'd take day one every time.
im gonna have to disagree with you bigbill. I lived in cali all my life, and now go to school in oregon. there is no way i can find fish similar in size to cali's. There are no florida strains in oregon. Too cold, thats why you wont find 14+ pounders here. The biggest bass are in southern california. The most, well there in any pond that bill dance fishes.
I think it will be hard to limit it to just one state. I believe states with warmer climates year round have the potential to see large fish compared to Cali.
I'd say CA,TX,and FL have the biggest bass as a whole.TX and FL probably have the most. There are numerous other states that could claim that title. This is just my opinion.I really have no idea on most bass.

I'm from Massachusetts which ain't the Bass Capitol of the world. However, and I still have a hard time believin' it, the state record LM bass is nearly 16 Pounds. I aqree that there's a biggun right in your backyard where ever you live. Certainly there are areas in the country where growing seasons are longer and florida strain get bigger quicker etc.etc.etc. But don't give up hope if life don't let you stray far from home.
If you look at a list of the top 25 Largemouth ever caught, which state did most of them come from? Which lake holds the BASS record for most weight?
I don't see any state putting up numbers any where near those from California
Texas Share-A-Lunker program has 9 entries so far this year, the smallest weighted 13.02 lbs with the largest going 14.5 lbs.
The Texas state record is only 18.18 lbs caught in 1992 and Texas hasn't produced a bass over 16 lbs since 2002.
Our on Fish Chris recently weighed one in at 17.10 lbs and California has produced 20 bass over Texas's 18.18 lbs with 9 over 20 lbs.

x2 its sucks but i'm sure its not the worst
Lets all be honest here. I have lived in 3 states, nothing compares to out here in California. I don't care what state your in. You also don't have other states stocking a 1000 pounds of trout every week either. Not trying to start anything, but it is the fact.

The only problem with the Trout stocking thing is that neither Clearlake or the Delta, arguably 2 of the top 10 fisheries in the world are not stocked with trout.
i agree with that, but delta and clear lake aren't putting out those 20lb fish...southern cali is...mmmmmm trout

New York actually has a good variety. like anywhere, it all depends on where you fish.
Ya'll left out Alabama? What we're you people thinking!

Not sure about Clearlake but I do believe the Delta record is over 18lbs.
If you're talking about the "biggest" largemouth bass, how
can anyone argue a case for any state other than Kalifornia?
Numbers? Now that might be debatable.
If smallmouth is your game, Ohio or more generally, Lake Erie
is King for numbers and good size. If it's "biggest" smallmouth
bass, Tenessee rules, but Alabama's portion of the Tennessee
River is a close second and could claim the next World Record.
8-)
I tell you I feel truly blessed to be within a couple hours of what I think is the best all around largemouth fishing in the world. However I have to say that getting back to Erie or TN like RW says and getting into some big smallmouth sounds good.
Gotta throw my home state in as well. The All Time BASS record could fall in 3 days, 42 and change could be done easily. Consider Fork doesn't get a shot cause of the slot.
We can match any state lake for lake on huge bass, we just don't have the correct climate to raise the 20's. Cali owns that distinction. But chances for a DD is just as good or better in Texas.
Hookem
Hookem,
I'd have to say Maine for total weight of bass boated in a day. You'd be amazed at the numbers of bass over 2.5 pounds you can catch in one day in Maine.
CA for pure size.
Without question California! 20+ of the top 25 bass were caught in SoCal. If you want tons and tons of 5-7# fish, check out the Delta, Clear Lake and many of the reservoirs of California.
Our winters are mild and fishing year round is never a problem.
Often times a 25# bag won't be heavy enough to cut a check at local team tournaments.
If you want numbers, check out DVL or Perris right now. All the 3-4# bass you want!
If y'all want bass that are 15# plus then California; if y'all want numbers of bass in the 6-9# range with double digits sprinkled throughout in good numbers then Texas is your choice.
Have a look at the Lone Star Shootout Falcon Lake, Zapata, TX;
Pro Aaron Martens 10 bass 79-13
Co-Angler Randall Jackson 10 bass 57-14
Guys are getting broke off using 65# braid! All of this under post frontal conditions with 20 mph+ winds from the north; and wait Amistad is next on the list.
That is Texas Redneck Bubba Bass Fishing
I've only Bass fished in Northern Ca but i can't imagin bass fishing getting any better. We have lakes rivers and ponds. The delta offers some thing like 3 million miles if fishing oppertunitys. i live withing 30 min of 5 lakes tha are known for exsepitinle bass fishing and 2 hours from clear lake. and 10 min from some ponds that i fish all the time
With all this going on it's realy hard to not call in sick to work twice a week
Tha only down side is the cost of living here.
Gas $3.60 ga fishing lic $62.00 after all the bells and whisles
and next to no game wordens > but that a whole nother rant
I use to live in Nashville, TN and the fishing at local ponds, Percy Priest and Old Hickory was outstanding. I only wish I had more time to fish when I lived there. I was working 6 days a week 12 hours a day.

Yea California rules on 20 lbs Bass but Y'all can't argue with this
I'm sticking with MN. We don't have the DD's but we have enough water to keep it it real interesting. You can get on some good northern MN lakes midweek and not see another boat all day if you are lucky. I'll take 3's an 4's and smaller crowds any day over big crowded lakes with DD potential. Only thing I hate about MN is our very short season. I gotta cram some serious fishing into 3 month time frame.
