The Human Reaction When Catching A Fish 2024

fishing user avatartomustang reply :

I'll admit when I see someone get a strike and set that hook, I watch for the entertainment factor, not the what did he catch but the silly body movements people make trying to reel whatever is on their line. Many people go overboard swinging at the fences, jump on their tiptoes, or even wrenching in a 1lber. Shear enjoyment. But there's the negative like when watching pros get over excited and it looks like their are punching the fish or getting a ignorant attitude while holding it, Reese and Iaconelli come to mind.

fishing user avatarslonezp reply :

My son can tell when I get a bite on a finesse bait. He says I get kind of a blank, stupid look on my face before I set the hook.

fishing user avatarbrushhoggin reply :

i pound my chest like a caveman and stand over my catch with one foot on its chest when i catch a good one.

I agree with you about the pros watchin them on the outdoor channel but i get super excited when a land a nice fish

fishing user avatarRatherbfishing reply :

I don't know how stupid I look (probably always) but I do catch myself saying "There we go!" if I set the hook and there's weight on the end of my line.

fishing user avatarBluebasser86 reply :

I like to watch my buddies fishing "feel" baits because I can usually tell by their body language if they have a bite or not. A lot of time I can tell before they do that they have a bite by watching their line :)

fishing user avatarww2farmer reply :

I never get too excited myself, a big one usually gets a comment and a picture, the hook set and fight are the same (as it can be) if it's a 1lber or a 5lber) I usually go for the nest if it's a big one. I have fished with all kinds tho, some of the guys I fish with are all business, some are not LOL. One guy I fish with has to one up you no matter what, every fish he gets is giant, he goes IKE on rock bass , let alone decent LM, yet we very well together in TX's, so I accept it....keeps me entertained too.

fishing user avatartugsandpulls reply :

i often say bad words loud when i loose one

fishing user avatarslonezp reply :

My father screams "JUMBO" on every fish he reels in. Whether it's a 2" bluegill or a 20lb salmon

fishing user avatar200racing reply :

i notice a lot of people start laughing like hyenas when they hookup.

i know what my boat feels like when my boat mates set the hook so well i usually spin around to help land it before they have said anything.

fishing user avatarBuoyFrenchy reply :

Me and my friends have a tradition and just yell "Fish On!!"

fishing user avatarBassn Blvd reply :

LOL, I'm the same way. I'm like "geez, not another 6 pounder!"

fishing user avataralyswim reply :

I get psyched when I get a bite! Even more psyched when I take it off the hook! I know when my hubby gets a bite, can tell by the way he shuffles his feet and I spin right around and watch in awe... (He's a much better fisherman than I.)

LOL!

I thought I was the only one to do this. Gotta give a big ol rebel yell too. Otherwise people might think you're off your rocker.

fishing user avatarNBR reply :

To me fishing is an introspective sport. It gives a chance to enjoy a quiet day with nature. I rarely say anything except, "There's one" I might go on and say good fish or dink. Not to long ago I saw Ike break a rod and throw rod, reel, line and all overboard. I think he should have been ticketed for litering. I also don't think he will achieve the wins he is capable of without getting his emotions under control.

fishing user avatarRiverFisher13 reply :

f its a nice one, ill give a little woot. Nothing like ike, but just a little hell yeah or something like that. But for most its just a "fish on" and thats it.

fishing user avatarSirSnookalot reply :

I don't get overly excited, especially if it's a routine fish, seldom are the fished weighed or photographed, it's just another 5# bass or 20# snook, not saying it isn't fun. I get excited when I catch a fish out of the ordinary, like the 8oz peacock I caught. The most excited I get is when I'm spooled and never see the fish, that's awesome to see 200+ yds line peel off as quick as you can blink an eye and can't do a thing about it.

fishing user avatarClash City Rocker reply :

I'm not a screamer, but I fake it sometimes.

fishing user avatarFishing Cowgirl reply :

I can feel the boat lean to one side and my husband gets ready to set the hook. I describe it as a dog going on point. As he does that, if I am at the front with him, I start to squat down so I don't get a rod or fish slap to the head.

(If I am at the back, I still duck. Getting a one ounce weight upside the head will make your knees wobble.)

As for me, when I feel the tap or see the line move, I say "oh..oh..oh"!

fishing user avatarBass Dude reply :

i'm not too vocal. In tournaments I just ask for the net, or if it's a dink, I'll tell my partner not to bother with the net.

I do give a good Tiger Woods fist pump when I land a nice fish....and maybe a high five.

fishing user avatarfishingator reply :

This is a great thread lol. I am sure I do something super amusing but at this point I think I might black out because I can't think if I do haha. I am bad about always wanting a pic...even if it's a dink... .

fishing user avatarbjmac reply :

I don't know how I react when I land one, but I know what I do when I miss or lose one... I let out a deep eeehhhhh, followed by curse of the moment. Then I look around to see how many people watched me make an arse out of myself. Unfortunately, it happens quite often.

fishing user avatarDiablos reply :

I watch bass tourneys on tv just to listen to the "grunts" they make

I'm always amused that it takes such a loud grunt to set the hook in a 2lb fish

fishing user avatarTony Monticelli reply :

i was catching tiny schoolie striper after striper one day, got annoyed at one point and soon as a got a little bite and i let the bail go soon after she started to run and i was like ah ha Im going to see if i can set the hook hard enofe to launch one of these out of the water. i slapped the bail closed and when i set that hook i don't even know what my face looked like but i wish i could have seen myself that day, it was 42".

fishing user avatarFish Chris reply :

I really don't get all flipped out, unless the fish is a huge one..... But even so, I always fight the urge to get all goofy over a catch > until it is actually caught, and in the boat ! Once it's in my livewell, and I can see how much space its taking up, then I might get giggly, and goofy, and maybe scream a little bit.... Whooo Hooo ! :)

Fish

fishing user avatarTeh reply :

One of my sons friends just about bends over backwards when setting the hook. Every fish is 'about a fifty pounder!" You'd think the reel was going to catch on fire he starts reeling so fast. Haha, he's 7.

fishing user avatarSam reply :

You put in hours of travel, living in motels, eating fast food, putting up with bad weather conditions, having a wife and kids at home screaming for you to come home and have to prefish for three days prior to a tournament and pay for gas, housing, food, insurance, clothes, launry and entry fees, and you tell me you will not get excited about reaching your goal: catching five bass.

It is not easy being a professional bass fisherman. It is work. It is hours of studying maps, looking at web sites and blogs, getting the boat and equipment ready, making sure the two vehicle is in good condition, living in motels, fishing in dirty clothes, all to catch 5 of the largest green fish you can land.

As for me, I would celebrate all fish that I caught in a tournament if I was a pro. But I am not a pro although I have won money in bass tournaments.

I am a wild and crazy guy that goes nuts when he catches a nice bass. And I am proud to go nuts and crazy when I catch a nice bass. I want the entire world to know.

Showing emotion is not a bad thing to do especially when all you are looking for are five nice bites so you can finish in the money and live to fish again.

May I suggest you "Go Ike" more often. It is a fun thing to do!

fishing user avatarPondboy46 reply :

When im fishing for channel cats and one starts running, I will run over anything to get to the pole and set the hook. If I catch a big bass me and my friends look at it for a minute or two and I am really happy. I get and even bigger reaction when I catch a fish on baits and lures I make myself.

fishing user avatarSkeet22 reply :

Nothing gets the heart pumping like having a good fish on during a tourney esp the 5th one. I try to stay calm during the battle just hoping it does not spit the hook. After it's in the boat I get jacked up!

Last tourney I fished I lost 5 fish at the boat that would have went 17-19lbs. We were on some really big fish. Worse day on the water I have ever had as far as execution. I'm still baffled as to what went wrong and can only come up with terrible luck that day.

fishing user avatarBassAssassin726 reply :

Im kind of like Ike. If its a keeper, its a pig.lol. I use lots of adjectives like, pig, hog, monster, bruiser. Theres nothing better than setting that hook and your heart starts racing. Love it!

fishing user avataroutdoorsman110 reply :

I always say, " Here piggy piggy, squeal for me baby, squeal hoggy " and then i'll make squealing sounds similar to that in the movie Deliverance. yeah... I get weird looks.

fishing user avatarBankbeater reply :

I use to jump up and say YEAH after every hog. Now I just do it when I catch a new pb.

fishing user avatarKansasBASS9948 reply :

Well....normally I just say "There he is" of "Fish On," but when I caught the one that broke 9 pounds I distinctly remember letting out a good ol rebel yell!
