While tournament fishing, where do the anglers urinate?
in the live well
I keep a 32 oz cup in the boat and use it to try to be discrete. I make sure to rinse it well after using it and get a new one frequently. A plastic soft drink cup from McDonalds or a convenience store.
I have to go like every hour so finding a formal restroom doesn’t work so hot for me.
The hospital urination "jars" work very well, hold plenty, not easy to spill. I rinse it overboard, but keep in in the livewell.
if no one is around, I just let it go in the lake.
If there is no private area, I use one of these. it is on Amazon for $9.85

Huh? Is this a real question?? Let it rip wherever we are. With one hand on the reel of course
Thanks guys.I usually go in the water. But I've never fished a tournament with live cameras.Thats why I asked.
Public lakes have floating restrooms called USS Relief.
Tom
I can fish sun up to sun down and never have to urinate. In most places it’s illegal to urinate within something like 250’ of natural body of water, including lakes, rivers, streams, ponds and creeks.
Welcome aboard!
Not a tourney guy, but I go when nature calls...and no other
anglers are near by...LOL.
Man Card ownership regulation requirements while being fairly specific regarding this matter, do allow some flebility.
Most of these revolve around decorum.

I always joke with my buddies (not really joking, honestly) and say I don't hate winter fishing because it's cold. I hate winter fishing because I have to take off all 57 layers to use the bathroom.
Jokes aside, I am the world's worst when it comes to having to take a bathroom break while out fishing. I try to stay hydrated so I'm always getting that urge. In simple terms I just whip er' out and go but my biggest issue is that I am always either fishing docks around houses or fishing a hole out deep that is surrounded by other anglers or main lake where someone is constantly riding by. I try to hide behind the motor or something but sometimes I just say "who cares" and let it loose because I got to go.
i submit to you the “johnny bottle”
I thought this was going to be about making sure your motor was “peeing.”

I will never drink lemon line flavored original Gatorade on a bass boat or any boat ever again, lol.
We guys don’t really have an issue. But what about women? Serious question.
I know we went over this a little while back. There are devices for sale that allow a woman to pee like a man. So an empty bottle can work for them as well.
Thanks MN.
I may be wrong, but the OP may be asking where Ike, Ish, KVD, and the rest of the field take a wizz while they are fishing a tournament and on TV.
That is what I thought. Maybe someone who has been a Marshall will chime in.

I guess fish wildlife don't count? Seriously I "get" that states don't want the local rock / jazz festival ticking in the lake, but some laws go too far. Oh well, the next time I need to go maybe I'll take my rangefinder with me! ????
First thing on our checklist, for prepping the boat, is the pee can.
Minnesota has no specific law against urinating in the lake...but if done in view of other people, it can be charged as 'Indecent Exposure' at the Misdemeanor level.
Talk about going to the bathroom where you eat... LOL
I do believe a 32 oz or half gal jug would serve the purpose better, then emptying it at the port o potty once your back on land... Then again you could buy a box of depends.
I added a tallon specifically to have something to lean on ????

Unless you are fishing a pristine mountain lake, the runoff entering the lake is far worse than someone relieving their self.
Plus people may think you are a bit. strange, walking across the boat ramp parking lot with a jug of pee. So you can dump it in the porta potty.

Maybe so - but every little bit helps. I like to think I'm NOT contributing to the lake's pollution problem when I cart my 'waste' away with me.
Unless a pro angler is sick or off thier normal routine fishing isn't any different then any other line of active work. You know where you are going and develop a routine to reduce needing to relieve yourself. I always go before launching my boat and usually works for several hours or until around lunch time. I know where the rest rooms are located and use them when needed.
For emergency every boat should have a jug used to pee in, the plastic hospital type with a lid is ideal, any jug big enough works.

Guys I am not talking about dumping toxics into the water. Urine is not pollution. It is actually fairly sterile.
animal and fish waste are already in the water.
What bothers me is the guy with an old outboard, leaking oil and leaving an oil slick in the water.
that is pollution and it happens a lot.

If you have any type of viral or bacterial infection - even if you don't have symptoms of such - those will also be eliminated through urine. Not adding those to a lake...even unintentionally...is the reason I don't 'do my business' over the side of the boat. Add to that, any chemical you're exposed to gets into the urine...so while it IS fairly 'sterile', it can have a lot of things that aren't good for the water in it.
Every little bit helps, and I do what I can. It might not be much in the grand scheme of things, but I am a bit of a 'tree-hugger' in some respects.
What is toxic having young kids in your boat and some guy is peeing off the back of a nearby boat. Use common decency, just because a cow is peeing in the lake doesn't mean you should.

My friend who has a Yamaha, will pee on my Mercury whenever he goes off the back of my boat...

It's better to be ticked off than ticked on.
I marshaled once & was a Bass Fest judge once and all of the pro's I was with pee'd in the water. Ish Monroe made the error of peeing into the wind and ended up wetting the deck. Gerald Swindle had a couple of spectator boats following him so he waited until he was in a narrow stretch of a creek and all the boats were behind him, so they couldn't tell what he was doing.
At the marshals meeting, this came up and a story was relayed about Ike at one of the Classics. Ike's marshal had to pee, but there were over a dozen spectator boats all around them. Ike told him to hold on for a few minutes as he finished fishing a spot. Ike then fired up the big motor and flew like a bat out of hell for 10 minutes to the next spot. As he came off plane, Ike turned to his marshal & said "you have about 30 seconds until they get here".
For me personally, it is the large necked Gatorade bottle. If you are wearing loose enough shorts, it will even slide right up them so no one can see anything.
@Mike Schell I apologize. You had a legitimate question and one of my posts turned it into something else.
Good Fishing.
I tend not to worry too much about "polluting" the lake. Since every other animal that lives in the lake or around it relieves themselves in it, I doubt if I'm going to cause any problems.
Regarding whether urinating into the lake is pollution, it depends on the number of urinators and the size of the lake. 1 person peeing into lake Michigan doesn't matter, ten thousand people peeing into a 1 acre farm pond does. This goes for animal output as well.
We see this in Southern California, where we have too many people and not enough water. For example, there have been times where Lake Perris, a 2200 acre lake in Riverside California, has been plagued by bacteria issues caused by human contact & excretions. They have had to close the beaches there many times, once for a 100 day stretch. The Water district will not use water from Perris for drinking, they instead pull that from other nearby resevoirs that don't allow human contact.

I'm still of the opinion that even small things CAN help. Everything starts small to begin...than can grow. Waving off someone peeing into a large lake encourages that behavior in ANY lake. Which is why I wouldn't even pee into Lake Superior.
To dismiss the idea that peeing in a lake - even a huge one - isn't all that bad just keeps the s-ball rolling downhill, gathering speed and mass.

Wise said don't pee into the wind!

1 person peeing once or twice is one thing, but now compound that by 100 or 500 in a day times days of the week then month.. that is a lot.
C'mon son
I just stand up in my kayak and let it go....like i did today three times lol
I use a product called Brief Relief I get from work, this is the knock off GG Buy Disposable Urine Bags from Amazon

I don't believe we were talking about what encourages or discourages peeing into lakes, rather the thread morphed into whether or not peeing caused a problem pollution-wise. One person peeing into Lake Michigan in & of itself does not create a problem as far as pollution is concerned. You in essence agreed because you wrote that it becomes a problem when it becomes acceptable and more people do it.
The slippery slope argument is another discussion for another thread.

And on a slow day, this is one of the two scenarios when you are most likely to get bit. The other being when you are preoccupied with a work phone call.
The technical term is 'pee cup.'
Pee
Rinse
Repeat

I am no expert but that can't be good for the kidneys. People claiming to have iron bladders also have bouts with cystitis I bet.
Stay hydrated my friend and bring a pee cup, bottle or jug. Mines a red solo cup. Don't want to mistake it's contents for a beer though
Locals refer to it as the pickle jar. We have a couple lakes where physical contact with the water is prohibited. These are water supply lakes, and the water is pristine, little or no runoff, no cottages or dwellings on shore.

It was similar to turning up the heat on a frog in a pot of water, you don't notice it until it is too late.
WRB can attest to what Orange County & much of So Cal was like in the early 70's. Great place for suburban life, not rural but not city-fied. But decades of building without keeping enough spaces open changed it & its culture immensely.
Three pages on P - impressive. Especially since there's plenty of open water to fish. While my bass fishing can & often does present a number of perplexing and challenging decisions, choosing when, where and how to go, is rarely one of them.
Either way, early and late season, there's nothing worse than having a 3 pants unit on a 4 pants day.

I just go. If there are people around I try to get a reasonable distance away from them and turn my back. Nobody really looks to see what's going anyways...
New meds that make you pee like a race horse. I take a mason jar rather then stand on the edge of the boat like 40 years ago. Clean it out and put it back in the dry storage.
I also take several big trash bags and a roll of toilet paper. I empty the big live well, put the bag in and sit and have a comfy poop. I haven't needed it yet, but several back seaters have used the poop bag. Just remember to restock after a use. Never leave home unprepared!
You sir just upped the ante with the poop bag! ????
Have been told from Ranger at Buffalo National River that if in the back country and don't have a toilet around it is actually preferable that you urinate in the river, as the diluted urine has virtually no impact. From "leave no trace" website:
Urine has little direct effect on vegetation or soil. In some instances, urine may draw wildlife which are attracted to the salts. They can defoliate plants and dig up soil. Urinating on rocks, pine needles, and gravel is less likely to attract wildlife. Diluting urine with water from a water bottle can help minimize negative effects
Little Timmy raised his hand in class one day. The teacher said "yes Timmy, what do you need?"
Timmy said "I gotta take a leak"
Teacher said Timmy, you know that's not how we ask to use the bathroom. If you can use the word urinate in a proper sentence, you may go use the restroom.
Timmy tilts his head as he thinks for a second; then says, "Urinate. But if you had a bigger rack you'd be a 10"

I know someone who was visited on a lake by a warden for that issue. Apparently some old lady was watching them fish with binoculars. My buddy whipped it out in their direction and peed in the lake. They were many blocks out in the lake. Lady called the cops, cops referred it to the DNR, DNR officer came and told them to be more discreet.
I generally take a leak over the side, careful of any overly-sensitive prying eyes. Sometimes it means motoring over to a quieter spot if need be. I have a hospital urinal that I use on big water with big waves.
In a live tourney, I'm assuming the camera man turns the the camera off for a couple minutes. Usually they have someone else to cut too. It would be no different than if they motor for a few minutes to a new spot. Rarely do they show that either.

Here's where it gets fun...if they had decided to charge him and he was found guilty. Up to 90 days in jail and/or $1000 fine.
Unless someone under 16 saw him...then it's up to a year in jail and/or $3000 fine as that's a Gross Misdemeanor.
And if he's caught a second time and someone under 16 saw him....Felony - up to 5 years in prison and/or $10,000 fine...and registered as a 'Sex Offender'.
Really want to chance that just to be able to pee over the side of your boat?

Do a Google search on MN Defense attorneys...they all state that exposing yourself in public - unless at a designated Nudist spot or a breastfeeding mother - is indecent exposure. And the law is very specific
This thread went down the toilet.....
