2017 BassResource Road Trip
Jack Yate's Classic on Toledo Bend Reservoir
3/15/17 - 3/20/17
As with all previous Road Trips, everyone is invited, novice or pro. You do not need a boat to attend. There are always seats available. Further, women are encouraged to attend with their significant other, or you are welcome to attend alone. Ladies are always treated as ladies on these trips.
The only difference between these and previous Road Trips is that they are now "unofficial." Glenn and Keri may or may not attend. There will be no sponsor giveaways, nor Pro speakers. Regardless, it will be the annual opportunity for many of us regular attendees to renew old friendships and, most importantly to establish new ones.
I would appreciate your comments before I finalize any plans.

Common Questions
Who is invited?
Everyone!
How does fishing work during the trip? Are we all on our own, do members pair up? Share patterns? The lake is pretty big. Do we all launch at the same time in the morning as a group or everyone do their own thing?
To begin with, this is not a tournament. It's just a bunch of folks who enjoy the fishing and camaraderie. Everyone does their own thing when fishing. They launch when they want and where they want. As for pairings, every evening we do our best to pair everyone up for the next day. NO ONE is left standing on the bank.
How does lodging work, do we tell you if we require a room? Do we get paired up for rooms with other members?
It is the responsibility of each individual to arrange their own accommodations. We have blocked 6 Rooms for BR members, but reservations must be made by you. The block will be removed January 31st, so unreserved cabins may not be available after that date. Stay active on the Road Trip forum and post from time to time that you are looking for a roommate. It always works out.
Do i need to bring a boat?
NO, you do not need a boat. Everyone is welcome, and everyone fishes! We hold random drawings (see schedule above) to pair boaters/non-boaters up.
Perhaps this a dumb question, but are these the only two for 2017? I only ask because they're both located awfully south.
Not a dumb question.
As far as I know......the annual road trip has always been down south.
2 years ago the annual road trip was Toledo Bend......it was such a great time we decided to make it an annual trip in addition to the 'regular' trip.
I'll be attending again Chris.

Hey Bert!
Just tell them to work out their schedule around yours

Well, If you have room one day, I would like to reserve a seat in your boat.
Also, can you recommend a couple of guides I can call to schedule for the trip?

Need to try to work out some logistics but I would love to come out there again. Regretted missing last year!
I'll have to wait for my tournament schedule to come out, but I'll for sure be there for a day or two!

I'm in +1, we'll have a place to stay though
I should be there also. Any weekend works for me.
Good drive for us, but a good chance the ol lady and I might be there.
We were just there but we got the hint that March is the time to back.

Great Jerry!
Hope I get to fish with ya at least one day.
Updated the starting post with cost and lodging info.
Count me in! Anyone interested in a roommate?
Yay Felix!
Glad to hear you'll be joining us
That's great Felix!
It will be good to visit with friends again. It will be a different lake without the grass. Very little to be found anywhere.

No grass?
Hopefully I'll still be able to get my egg whites......don't ya think Jerry?
Really looking forward to seeing y'all again.
As of right now, my plan is to attend during the day with my dad and stay at our place a bit south of fin & feather.
However, I think I talked at least 2 (probably 4) of my friends into attending as well. They would all share one room at fin & feather. None have a boat. So I guess ideally they'd pair up and tag along with someone if there are people who don't mind fishing 3 from their boat. Idk how yall would work that out.
This trip looks awesome and I may be able to make it... But it's one heck of a drive from PA. Does anyone ever fly for these? Anyone have experience flying 1 piece rods?

People have flown down for these trips.
Others will have to post as to the 1 piece rod question.

We have fished 3 people to a boat in the past......as far as I know....there has never been anyone left standing at the dock/bank that wanted to go out in a boat.

I fly all the way from upstate NY(Albany). I fly into Louisiana, hit the BassPro for my license and then work my way down to Fin and Feather from there. I have travel rods which I take with me (2 and 3 piece rods). The 2 piece went as carry on. The 3 pieces I took on the plane with me. I didn't want the hassle of 1 piece rods.
1 - Case was expensive
2 - Rediculious overcharge. One I avoided by going 2 piece.
3 - Don't trust baggage handlers.
This year I may forego the 2 piece rods and go all 3 piece avoiding the checked bag altogether. We will see how I feel when I get closer.
Glad to see you coming back Felix. I'm sure we could round up a few rods for the folks that fly in. They would have to be better than the 3 piece or 2 piece ones. I know I have a few at the camp there for emergencies. Nothing great but a couple of falcon originals, a Powell worm rod, KVD cranking stick and a couple others. I have a couple of spinning outfits too. Been leaving them on the deck of the boat but no one will steal them. I would think bring your reels and someone can hook you up with rods. plus, I don't use half of the ones in the boat.
I'll sign up for one of the Roadtrip's just don't know which one yet. I've fished 2 of the Tennessee River impoundment's already..Kentucky/Barkley and of course Wilson at the 2014 trip but never fished Toledo Bend...Mmmmm.
I'll let you know.
Mike
Sounds good Mike.

You don't need to bring anything if you would like to fish with mine, I will have some variety for you to choose from.
-Kent
You can also ship them to yourself. I did that for a Florida trip and it worked great.

You are a kind man, my friend!
Booked into room 12 for 16th-19th. I hope to have my son along on this trip. See y'all soon!
One month left to secure reservation......after that the rooms will be released.
You must make your reservation by January 31, 2017. Room availability cannot be guaranteed after January 31st.

In his book, KVD said that color isn't as important to him,
as it is to other anglers. BUT, in his book entitled "Bass Strategies",
Kevin states: "Red is a super color in Texas during the spring"

What's the situation on grass in the lake this time around?
From @Bryanhester
Tuesday fished the bend and managed to catch 28 with the best almost 24 lbs. best bite was early with a lull after 10:00. Bite picked up again around 2. Biggest was 7lbs. Most caught on traps in staging areas in the grass !! Fished housen and six mile areas.
6 days left to guarantee room reservations.
You must make your reservation by January 31, 2017. Room availability cannot be guaranteed after January
Guys and gals, I would love to be there, but I am scheduled for hip replacement surgery on March 6. I doubt that I my rehab therapists would allow me anywhere near a boat in time for the J.Y. Classic.
Hate to hear that Mike. Hope all goes well and your back on your feet in a hurry!
My brother just retired and bought a RV that he is just dying to use. So, we have booked
a hook-up on the Fin & Feathers property, walking distance to the main office. We will be
down for the entire outing.
WOO-HOO!
As of 2/7/17 the lake level is at 168.9' which is said to be 3.10' low, historical data show 169' is normal.
Locate weather is mid-60s at night & upper 70s during the day, it's been a little windy!
Sent this to RW
Expect pre-spawn - spawn
Fin & Feather located on Housen' Bayou which is centrally located on some of the best waters of the lake. Do some map study of Housen', Indian Mounds, & Six Mile.
I would target bank shallow out to 10-12'
Structure/cover: personal favorites creek channel coves & buck brush
Spinnerbaits, Rat-L-Traps, Texas Rigs, Jigs, Carolina Rigs, Crankbaits, pretty much any & everything! Finding the bass is paramount!
Spinnerbaits; white skirt double gold willowleaf
Lipless crankbaits; crawfish color

Regretfully, I'm out. It appears I'm getting pulled back into a leadership position with work and sneaking away in March will be almost impossible. I'm pretty unhappy about this, but I hope everyone else has a great time and crushes it on the lake.

Wish I could make the trip. But my back right now is keeping me from fishing around home. But I will fish that lake some day soon.

News alert!!!
From the Toledo Bend Lunker Program
Curious anglers as of 2-19-17 we are at 44; 2-19-16 we were at 61 and we handed out 139 that year; and 02-19-15 we were at 26 and we handed out 81 that year. We had 6 fish over 10 turned in this weekend. The fish are coming in steady and I will keep everyone updated with the numbers.
I and 3 others (2 from Mi and 2 from KY) will be at F-N-F from the 18-22, then heading over to Conroe for the rest of the week. It would be good to meet those that are there... Maybe we can learn a thing or two from some of the wisdom that will be flowing there.

Looks like you will have at least 1 day in common with the folks that will make it.
Well, just like looking in the livewell....
1 is better than none!
@roadwarrior
Ryan Pinkston of Center caught this 14.20-pound largemouth Saturday while fishing in the Bass-N-Bucks tournament on Toledo Bend Reservoir.
Nice fish......I'm gonna miss out this year?
We are ready to rock!
We had a front blow through Saturday night, not sure what the effects will be!
I'm hearing they are catching everywhere on everything, well before the front that is.
Leaving for Texas in a couple of hours.
Woo-Hoo!
Hope you guys have a great and safe trip! Just remember to stay away from the chicken!
