I received two letters in the mail today, one from In-Fisherman and another from Indiana Game and Fish. I've only subscribed to In-Fisherman once, a few years ago. I've never subscribed to Indiana Game and Fish. In-Fisherman wants only $6.00 for a years subscription. Yeah, $6.00! I double checked that thing and it says $6.00 Indiana Game and Fish only wants $8.00 for a year. I had no plans to subscribe to the Indiana magazine for for $8.00 I think I will take it.
Anyway, watch your mail and don't throw away those magazine subscriptions too quickly. Oh, and here is my secret to happy magazine subscriptions - USE MONEY ORDERS! Don't give those companies your credit card numbers or they will automatically resubscribe you. If you send a money order then its one year and done.

Ok, I'm in the magazine business. Personally I dislike auto renew too, but it sure is saving our business. About 35 percent of people don't renew at all. And it costs lots of money to send renewal notices. Auto renew increased our renewals by a lot. Plus, it saves paper by not printing renewal notices. Most magazines have to send 6-8 renewal reminders.
The printed word is dying partly because everything you want to know is out there virtually free in video form. I don't read them unless I'm in a waiting room. One thing I've noticed lately is some of the mags are now down to 10 or 8 issues a year. If you subscribe to Fill-in-the-blank-Game and Fish you can save a couple years worth of mags and just re-read next year. They recycle content a lot.
Game and Fish has gone down hill and i agree with reel ess. i've saved every issue (NC vol.) since the early 90's, give or take. the once bulky mag is more like a flimsy sale paper now. i blame the internets. i still like to reference some of the older volumes every now and then....especially in the winter.
I would subscribe to Bassin but the fine print says subscriptions are U.S. only
Also the magazine retailers in this town don't stock the new issues until the old issues are sold. At least that seems to be how it is.

Whatever the retailers charge for one issue anymore is heinous and should be a crime, especially with how cheap (or free) subscriptions are or last months magazines are at Half Price Books.

This is the same with B.A.S.S
Ive been a life member since 1980. One of those older magazines had 3 times as much articles to learn from, and alot less ads. Now its thinner and full of worthless stuff. The magazine pales in comparison.
Yup, I get In-Fisherman on my tablet now along with the panfish and bass yearly editions. Now I've got 'me all with me where ever I go and can search for an article without digging through boxes. Only go back 5-6 years, but I am super greatful for the convenience and storage space. Doing the same with a lot of other books and mags.
I'm with most of you - the print magazine is going the way of the dinosaur. But a fishing subscription for $6.00? That's a deal. I'm not a fan of Indiana Game and Fish but at $8.00 its a decent deal for me. Two money orders from Walmart, one for six and another for eight dollars, and they are ready to be sent in.
Hey, you guys with the magazines, where do I get some whale oil for my lamp?...
21st century, get with the program.
Enjoy the magazines. It's always nice to sit down and physically read a magazine. It's unfortunate to think that we are so fast paced to want things now, now, yesterday, that we can't even sit down and read an actual printed copy. I fall into the trap of online reading too, but still buy certain fishing/fly fishing magazines for the mere point of forcing my self to sit down and enjoy. When I was a kid, the Bass Pro Catalog for my dad and I to look through was just as exciting as the JCPenney Christmas Wishbook was for me (and my siblings) for the cool, new toys. Haha...remember those!
In-fisherman is a good magazine . I need to resubscribe to it .
I subscribed to Bassmaster for years then they changed the format to short , mostly useless points instead of longer informative articles .
Being on the younger side of things, the only magazine I ever really got into was Handloader back when I was into shooting. It is an amazing resource of technical data and I trust a large company with a legal department far more then a random dude on the internet when it comes to a 50k PSI explosion going off next to my face.
Fishing is far less stressful, if someone gives me some bad advice here I just risk wasting time or money.

I got Kayak Angler mag in the digital format for a year as a Christmas gift, but it was one big ad from cover to cover with very little fishing advice I could use. Years later, they still send me emails all the time with links to free articles.
Kayak Angler is a dud mag. Way too much ads and very little "regular guy" kayak fishing info or articles.
I, on the other hand, am obsessed with In-fisherman back issues from the 70s and 80s, and I would wager that if you can get one for $6 on ebay --especially one of the first 24 issues, the "study reports" -- odds are even or better that it will have more useful information than an entire yearly subscription of the the current magazine.
The problem is that once you sign up for one of these, you will get notifications for renewal almost on a never ending basis. I signed up for a year of outdoor life and field & stream last year each for 7 bucks for 12 issues and I was not impressed with either of them even for that cost. Half the magazines each year are only about deer hunting and half the issues each month are advertising for Cialis or *. I don't care about pre-rut tactics in April so I didn't renew them. 6 bucks for In-Fisherman is pretty good but 3-4 issues of that is gonna be ice fishing which I have zero interest in.

I got a Field and Stream year-long subscription as a gift a couple years ago and was mildly shocked at how useless it was.
I get Bass angler magazine,Well worth 20 bucks.

I have 7 years of In-fisherman magazines from the 80's. Those magazines have a lot more info filled articles than what they produce today
Things Change,....this is not only inevidible, but also the title of my favorite movie,..yeah I know,... Its not star wars, exorcist, or terminator?,... nope!. Not the big blockbuster flick, but yet, decisive. Things do change, and the same will go for the internets influence on the paper industry sooner or later as well. Just as the magazines we all once relished in its monthy arrival starts to fade, Im sure the industry itself will come back. As a single slight virus, dip in a puddle, or drop on the floor, will erase all the info you once had saved on a electronic device. Proving the value, of a paper copy.
A visit home this past holidays season for a family dinner, brought to me a situation of stored away, 13 years of Bassmaster, In fisherman, and Bassin magazines in moms cellar. "When the bleep, are you gunna take all these magazines home with you?",...lol. "I need to clean out this cellar full of all you boy's crap!, before I croak!",..."Ok Ma, I'll come by with the truck soon",.... And I do plan on doing so, as mom can be more diligent, as I am winded,...lol, As for my brothers? good luck guys, you got more stuff down there then I
Back to the post at hand?
Yeah these prices may be a good deal, and the content may not be as informative as they once were. But as I started this post,....things change,. Will the recreational fishing industry bring about a new and improved "magazine" that will arrive by the mailman, or via the internet? I'm not sure, nor a gypsy in front of a crystal ball, knowing all and seeing the future. But, I do know that, where there is need? someone's got there hand out for a payday to fill that "void"
To facilitate such, voice your concerns and needs with the subscriptcions that you subcribe to, with every payment. Explain your displeasure, and expectations to them. Send in a money order for your payment with a letter of demands, explaining your "LEVERAGE",... Plead your case, with your cash in their face, and maybe, just maybe.,....things will change

Make sure you rewind the VHS tape before you take it back to the video store that doesn't exist.
I still like books and printed magazines. I also enjoy the convenience of things like the Kindle reader app.
in-fisherman is the only fishing magazine I find useful. and yeas I still like a print magazine.Im still not sure this computer thing is gonna last. lol

I haven't read a paper book since I bought my first Kindle years ago, but I still enjoy reading a paper magazine while sitting on my throne at home. Through a couple school fundraisers in the last year I've received Bassmaster Magazine, In-Fisherman, Field and Stream and Outdoor Life (I think). I really enjoy Bassmaster and In-Fisherman.
I got the In-Fisherman offer and Think I will take it . Also got one from Bassmaster for ten dollars and you get a tackle bag .
Due to eBooks and online access, the price of magazines and newspapers has been in a steady decline.
I've been a subscriber to In-Fisherman since their birth in 1975,
so I have mixed feelings about falling prices. The subscription price represents their bottom-line,
and declining prices generally precede declining quality and ultimately default.
For my money, there's no better fishing magazine than In-Fisherman.

Sigh.
Well, now you've done it, all of you.
You made me get new subscriptions to In-Fisherman and Bassmaster.
Made me. Forced my hand. Cabin fever had nothing to do with it, I tell you.
