How many new people 2024

fishing user avatarLow_Budget_Hooker reply :

Have you fished with this year?

I was fortunate to have alot of time off lately and got to fish with 17 new people from 9 different states.  Pretty cool.

I'm curious to see how some of the guides answer also.

fishing user avatar5bass reply :

Thats a good question.I have fished with probably 6 or 7 different people this year.A couple from this board......and I think "craw" and I will be fishing together sometime soon, just have to nail down a time and place.

fishing user avatarjayhawkfishin reply :

I have taken or gone with about 13 people this year.  I have taken out 4 of them before this year also.  All of them have caught something. :)

fishing user avatarWay2slow reply :

This year, ZERO.

Last year, 1.  I was forced to take my wife's sister's son-in-law once.

Year before that, ZERO.

year before that, ZERO

I basically don't like people and I diffinetly don't like them messing up my fishing.

fishing user avatarCJ reply :

I have fished with 8 new people this year.A couple of them had never caught a bass before that day.Just to see there reaction when a decent size bass gives them a tug,man it's cool.I have only gotten to fish with one member of BR(Bud). We had a good time but it was January and it was cold.We still caught a couple dinks.

fishing user avatarflechero reply :

Only 2 new people this year.  (the downside of moving to a small town.)  When I was living in Dallas I fished with 20-30 new people a year... tried to get someone new at least every week or two.

fishing user avatarRochesterBasser reply :

I've fished with 4 new people this year.  2 of them were my aunt and uncle who've never caught a bass before even tho they have their cottage on a big lake...  We went out on lake st clair and my uncle hooked about a 3-4 lb smallie on a crankbait.  He's crazy about fishin now  :)

Hopefully I can get out with some guys from the forum who live in MI.  I'd love to get out with some really experienced guys and learn a bunch of new stuff.

Colin

fishing user avatarliquidsoap reply :

I fish with a lot of new people probally upwards of 20 this year, most are friends, but have met a lot of people around me on fishign froums. :);)

fishing user avatarKeithscatch reply :

Hmm, only 2 this year. Made friends out of both of them. Met from another forum. I suspect next year will be higher as I will be living in a different place.

fishing user avatarDaniel My Brother reply :

Too many to count...though most were kids. My wife is the world's greatest girl scout troop leader, and we've got some honey holes with BIG bluegill that we take the girls to. I've got four daughters (ages 4 to 15) and I take turns taking them out in the jon boat, usually with a friend.  Then there's the fishing rodeo at Capaha park. We fill the van for that one.

As far as adults go, my goal is to convert all of my former golfing buddies into fishing buddies.

fishing user avatarvincedia reply :

2 new people in my first two months.

Sadly it's the blind leading the blind. I'm someone who has yet to catch a bass, and I'm trying to get these guys to come with me fishing.

They usually just end up using live bait on a small hook to get the bluegill and sunnies. Neither has had the patience for lures.

I'm hoping to get to know some people in the area, but my area seems to suck for clubs and fishing.

(any of you people in the Phila metro area looking to up your "people fished with count" I'm almost always game)

You bet! I've taken 3 guys from work that I'd never been with before and I invited one friend to bring his son along. It was great! I also took a buddy that I grew up with out twice to fish "the dark side". He couldn't believe how well they bite at night. He even caught his pb smallmouth last night, 20"3lbs8oz.

fishing user avatarrocknfish9001 reply :

ZERO!! i would love to, its just that NOBODY fishes like me in my area. There are several types of anglers here.

There are the powerboaters/pontoon boaters that live on the lake and get in everybodys way. They cruise water randomly with a spincaster or cheap spinning rod, and are armed with about 2 cranks, a minnow bait, 2 or 3 bags of plastics, a rattle trap, an inline spinner, and hooks that dont go with any of these lures.

Next are the "real anglers" They get out on the best lakes at 4 in the morning to get out before the powerboaters. They have aluminum boats and know where some fish are, but EVERY SINGLE ONE of these people only will whip out a bobber and worms and catch sunnies. I ask about bass, they say oh, lots of little ones along the lily pads, caught a real big one the other day- 13 inches!!

Now there are the "pros" the guys with 20 ft. bass boats and 250 hp engines. They have EVERYTHING and seem to catch NOTHING!! They catch a couple keeper bass and they say something like "oh yea, thats a real big one. Caught him on a spinnerbait. That comes to show you how good this lake can be." And because of those fish they fish that area with every lure and refuse to move because there are "fish in the area"

Now there are the "masters" the guys that really do catch fish and know what to use. These are the guys that i want to get in a boat with. Heres the catch- they own a smaller 25 year old bass boat with a motor that only sometimes starts, and get on the lake a few times a year. Maybe 5 times. They complain about gas prices, their trailer's got bad tires, its a hassle to launch, too many power boats, and its impossible to coax them onto the water.

This upcoming year, i AM joining a bass club, and will hope to improve tremendously. There are 2 in my area, and they have some talented anglers. But these are club anglers, and never wanted anything to do with me since i was only a local angler.

fishing user avatarguest reply :

Only 2 this year. One of the fellas was away in jail for a bit and you had to see him on a 2 day camping and fishing trip TOUGH GUYS DO CRY  Im grateful to pay it foward in these small ways

fishing user avatarjomatty reply :

fishing user avatarZebco202 reply :

12 people for me.  I hope to fish with a few more the end of the year.

8 hours on the lake with someone and you can really get to know them.

Never really had a bad experience, although there are a few that are not my "first choices" to fish with.

fishing user avatarCaptain Cali reply :

6 "new" people. I've known some of them for a while but never fished with them until this year.

You must be a fan of "A River Runs Through It". When the brothers take the girlfriends brother along fishing. What a nightmare!

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

I fish about 70 days a year with my main buddy. Over the past couple of years I have probably fished with 80 new people, including a lot of kids and a few wives. We often take a friend or two and sometimes three. On special trips we usually have a group of 8-10 and they usually bring a friend. Most people are invited back, but we don't put up with whiners. Kids and novices are fine ocassionally, but not too often and they never become regulars.

Our stripers have been small, so I don't mind having lots of guests and teaching them how to fish. My partner drives the boat and I usually do all the hook-ups, handing the rod off to the rookie. Catching 10-12 lb striper is thrilling to guys that have never caught a 3 lb bass. When smallmouth season begins, I'm a little more particular, but we fish when most people are hunting or it's too cold for the recreational angler.

We encourage our guests to leave their stuff at home, our equipment is generally an upgrade. I'll hand off a big smallie to a kid, but I would rather let them reel in giant drum and catfish, they really don't know the difference.

On an average day we boat at least a couple of hundred pounds of "fish". Some days we'll catch over 400 lbs.

It's a pretty rare outing if our friends don't have their "best day ever".

And there ain't NOTHIN' better than puttin' a smile that big on someones face....NOTHING!

fishing user avatarBud reply :

In the last year I have fish with 3 member of this forum.   Bassingsolder. AAron and CJ.  And about a dozen other.  Yes it was cold CJ.

fishing user avatarAlpster reply :

Just a handfull this year. I like to take kids & newbies. The problem where I live (New Jersey) is, that a fishing license costs $25. For an adult that's not hooked on fishing, it's an expensive outing. I take a lot of kids because under 16 needs no license and they need to know about fun that doen't require a computer or video game. The youngsters get a kick out of driving the boat (TM only) and they freak when they get hooked up.

Take a kid fishing!

Vince,

If you want to drive a to the East end of I-195, I will bet we can find you a bass to catch. My boat has two seats and you are welcome.

HawgHunter is the only one from this forum.  Other than that a high school buddy of mine, and my girlfriends sister got to go bass fishing with me and caught her PB of 4 lb 2 oz.  Always looking to hook up with people in southern Iowa or here around the Quad Cities area.

Sorry, that popped into my head and I couldn't resist....................Al

fishing user avatarGeneinTX reply :

I had the pleasure of taking 2 Australian Army troops fishing this year. They were both able to catch SM, LM and whites during 2 trips so they were very happy. I was too. I have taken 10 other adults and too many kids to count!!!!

fishing user avatarbassmasta7 reply :

7 new people I can think of. They were friends, neighbors, and friends of friends.
