Who do you think could teach you the most for your type of fishing or who might be the most fun. If you could fish a day with any pro who would you choose and why?
Would have loved to learn from Uncle Homer, rest his soul.
Today, current pros, Edwin Evers, Shin Fukae.
I like both of these guys for their techniques, Shin would be great teaching Japanese finesse techniques, Edwin, a lot of the other stuff.
I think I'd be numb if it were KVD. He's so good, so fast, I don't know how much I could learn, in one day, LOL.
A lot of the younger guys will be popular picks, but my top 2 would be Denny Brauer and Shaw Grigsby. Both have tons of years of experience to share, and both of them are great teachers. Shaw would top my list of those 2, just because he's sooo good at explaining things while he fishes.
Mike Iaconelli. He's a trip to watch.
I would also go with shaw grisby. There is something about IKE that also makes me want to learn from him and its the fact that he is always innovating. I would hate if he started screaming because since I was a kid I was taught to be stealthy.
I would say Rick Clunn. He's a super smart fisherman, a good teacher, and he is known for his mental approach to fishing. That's an area where I could improve.
My close number two is Gerald Swindle. His style is much like mine and he is one of the funniest guys to ever get in a boat! That would be a lot of fun. Shaw and Denny are next. They are just legends.
I notice nobody answered with KVD. Do we all assume that he would be too busy.. Lol
On 1/9/2013 at 12:41 AM, LgMouthGambler said:Mike Iaconelli. He's a trip to watch.
That would be a recipe for heart failure for an old guy like me....lol
Hootie
Ike, would be awesome. I don't really care for the antics, but I think he TEACHES more than anyone out there and the amount you would learn would be a lifetimes worth.
I would also really enjoy Mark Rose, that man has the TN River chain flat pegged.
Well, I have had the privilege of fishing with a lot of guys on this forum and would
like to fish with all of you! I guess BIG O is the only professional I have fished with.
I think my next three choices would be Fish Chris, Dwight Hottle and George Welcome.
I had dinner with the guys doing The Bass University in Nashville. Gerald Swindle
is one of the funniest guys I have ever met. He would make a great choice. However,
my top choices would be smallmouth fishing with Pete Gluszek or Davy Hite.
Mike Iaconelli - He quiet the character and I enjoy his teaching methods. Besides I am a fan of finesse tactics and he is one of the best.
Gerald Swindle a close second. Would have me probably laughing more than fishing but it's all good.
:-)
If i could fish with Anyone it would be Jerry Mckinnis. His show the fishin' hole was the one show i would watch as a kid about fihsing and he always looked like he was having so much fun no mater the species. I can learn a lot from the pros but i don't tournament fish or have a boat to run and gun across a lake so it just isn't as appealing to me.
Another one would be Doug Hannon. i remember watching him scuba dive to observer tha bass and i thought that was such a great approach.
As far as pros go it would be Rick Clunn or Paul Elias since they both have been around forever and are still winning and competing at a high level.
Aaron Martens.
hank parker, living. if we could include dead , harold ensley, the fishermans freind
On 1/9/2013 at 3:03 AM, TRYTOFISH said:harold ensley, the fishermans freind
I dated his daughter in high school. He never invited me fishing or hunting.
I don't think he liked me!
I'm actually going to say anyone or more members from here Bass Resource!! Allot of the members give excellent advice and I can pretty much talk to them most daily so it would be nice to fish with other members who I highly respect.
That's a hard choice to make with all the variety and years of expertise out there, but since I am an avid kayak angler and fish out of a Hobie, the obvious choice would be Hank Parker, Sr. His episode on Hank Parker Outdoors back in 2008 using Hobie kayaks to get closer to the hidden and hard to reach spots is the reason I own a kayak today.
A close second would be Rick Clunn just for the knowledge and third would be Roland Martin just because he also fishes saltwater as do I. If the freshwater bite was off, I know I could talk him into making a run down to the Chesapeak Bay for some saltwater action.

does she still have the country squire? just about the only good fishing show i can remember in the sxties
The Hawk ~ Manuel Salazar -
The Man, The Myth, The Legend.
A-Jay
Aaron Martens. Just love his style, his attention to detail and his passion. Have learned a lot from watching him over the years. Not to mention IMHO he is the 2nd best angler on the planet.
Mark Sosin and Guy Harvey
Bill dance for sure...because he is very versitile with his techniques and hes been around a while so he's knows all the tricks
Given an opportunity to fish with anyone on the Pro level would be a treat. If I had a choice KVD or E2.
Don't know if he's a pro so much as a "celebrity" but Mark Zona might be fun to fish with (if he stays on his meds). jk

Russ Lane, to learn some of his crankin' skills.

I think this might happen.
Now for my touring pro choice : without a doubt Shaw Grigsby. The man has been fishing pro, almost as long as I have been alive.
not living choice: Dale Earnhardt Sr, not a fishing pro, but avid outdoorsman and we shared many of the same interests.
pro but not touring: Big-O. He has the same philosophy I try to have. Find the biggest fish in the water and fish for that one fish!
Jeff
JP DeRose......he seems like a really chill dude and he shares my powerteam lures addiction 2nd would be dave mercer, his laugh cracks me up and facts of fishing is my favorite show.
FLW David Dudley!! Representing VA! I like his fishing style....
Gotta be Bill Dance. Bill caught a 3# bass once and had to take it to a fisheries biologist to confirm that it was really a bass. He had never caught one that small before......lol
Hootie
charlie moore so i can out fish him and tell him shut up he is so annoying
Ike or Zell Rowland.....................(deceased)................Jose Wehebe.
For me it'd have to be KVD half a day of map study half day of fishing and I'd just watch. O and have him tune up my Humminbird.
The Hemphill gang: Larry Nixon, Harold Allen and Tommy Martin. I wouldn't mind spending a day with Dee Thomas or Bobby Barrack either. Some day I would like to fish with Gary Dobyns. All these guys have added HISTORY to the sport and some still are.
no pro's....
Mike D for sure though
sign up for the marshall program , you dreams may come true , i did and went out with j todd tucker, terry butcher, jeremy starks
KVD for the skills, but Jeff Kriet for the thrills.
The few times I've seen Kriet on fishing shows, he seems hilarious.
IKE.. just to hear him scream NEVER GIVE UP
I really enjoy his passion and enthusiasm.
hank parker....he's a legend. he knows how to have a good time & is one heck of a fisherman. i could learn a ton from him.
I would love to go frogging with Dean Rojas.
On 1/9/2013 at 1:35 PM, loodkop said:I would love to go frogging with Dean Rojas.
That would be a cool trip
As someone who owns a tour jersey autographed by him, I think if I had to choose one guy it would be Shin Fukae. I've always wanted to really work on my finesse fishing skills and he'd be the one I'd choose. Besides, I love his attitude...he always seems to be having a great time fishing even if he's catching the wee ones.
If Fukae was busy that day, I wouldn't mind going out with Mike Iaconelli. He could shout "Never give up!" when I land the big one, ha ha.
I'm going big o all day. I would love to get on some of those falcon SLOBS!
Kvd would be up there too. My biggest weakness is deep cranking. I think he might be able to teach me a thing or 2.
Gerald swindle as well. He would be a blast to fish with!
Brent Chapman would be my pick. I've met and talked to the guy several times, even done some archery target shooting with him as he's also an avid bow hunter. He's very down to earth and just a really cool, nice guy and he's very knowledgeable. Seems to be a very dedicated husband and father as I've seen him on the water fishing with his kids a few times or walking the aisles at Bass Pro or Cabela's carrying his kids and answering all their questions. He also fishes similar to how I fish but is much better than I am at certain kinds of fishing so I think it would be easier to learn from him since he may be able to explain things to me in a way that I could understand.
KVD would be a blast too. Not sure I'd want to fish behind him but just to spend a day in the boat watching and listening to him would be awesome.
Denny Brauer would be another top pick for me. I wish I had some of his swing for the fences way of thinking. Often my problem is fishing for bites instead of fishing for the right bites.
Zona would be a good time. I'd love to get on some of that northern smallmouth bed fishing with him. Plus he seems like a rolling blooper reel in the boat.
Gerald Swindle or Ike both down to earth guys who know their stuff.
My top choices.
Bill Dance because he's funny and will probably fall out of the boat at least once.
Shaw Grigsby because he seems quite approachable and would be a good teacher. That funny mustache is amusing to me as well.
Lastly, Takahiro Omori because his last minute win is one of my favorites and I'd love to ask him to keep saying "troll", "Rapala" and "flipping".
Id love to ask him to keep saying "troll", "Rapala" and "flipping".
LMAO
I'd say mark rose. That guy knows deep water fishing better than anyone in the country right now. Ledge fishing that is. My second choice would be David Dudley I just like the guys fishing style and he knows how to win.
Virgil Ward. I grew up watching him on tv.
Hank Parker,a friend of mine was on his show in the late 80's and said he was a super guy on and off the air. Jerry Mckinnis, used to get up early when I was a kid to catch "The Fishin Hole". Mike D from Lunkerville,he doesn't take himself so seriously.
seems that we are forgeting the ones that help started it all.
my favorite picks to be in a boat with would have to be Bill Dance Rolland Martin
and lets not forget about Jimmy Houston.if you could not learn something from legends
like them hang up your rod.

Can't,....he's been deceased for 9 yrs.

Brauer... we all know what the number 1 tactic to put fish in the boat is
Holy Smokes! Not one vote for Al Lindner. Probably the finest "all-around" fisherman there ever was. He has probably contributed more to our sport than any handful of the "pros" today. He sas instrumental in developing "Fishing Facts" magazine (along with Bill Binkleman) and of course, the ever popular "In-Fisherman". I've been reading Al's stuff ever since the 70's. And he still is a fine teacher today. I'd give anything to fish with this guy. Not sure why anyone would want to fish with a person who "specializes" in only one or two species? (Unless that's all you care about.) Al goes after anything and everything that swims. And he's good at it too! JMO!
I already picked Rick Clunn and Gerald Swimdle, I forgot a good one to mention that I think is under rated and is right here in my home state of NC, I think I would really enjoy a day on the boat with Marty Stone. He has alot of TW videos, but there are alot of videos of him teaching different bass clubs. He seems really down to earth.
Pete Gluzek. He's somewhat local, did a seminar presentation right after him, and he touched on so many key components of mine, I could tell we were on the same wavelength. I think a day or two on the back of his boat would really benefit me. Good luck to him in this year's Classic!
Pete's at a bit of a disadvantage. He will have to bring his own fish to Oklahoma.
I don't think Grand Lake has any smallmouth.
Pete's been on them in Grand Lake during prefishing, if you follow his Facebook posts. The guy's a stud.
Kelly Jordan, deep water off shore stuff is really fun! I need to learn more!
Dustin Wilks... He a North Carolina boy.
Aaron Martens or ike would be my choice. Ike only lives 30min away, would love to get on one of the local lakes with him...

I would pick Al Linder in a heart beat.
I wouldn't mind a day on the water with Shaw Grigsby, but I wouldn't trade that for a day on the water with Big O.

That was downright hilarious!
If Swindle's relationship with Lucky Craft ever changes to where he needs a new boat wrap I want to see Cottonelle...or even Huggies. His new nickname for me is "The Maintenance Man".
That video just moved Gerald Swindle to the top of my list. Being from Alabama he reminds me of alot of my buddies. That would be one fun day of fishing. That dude is hilarious

For sure, I'd love to fish with Al Lindner. One of the best multi-species anglers that has ever lived ! And one of the most passionate anglers on the planet.
Of course I'd like to tag along with Butch Brown, or Mike Long, also.

Hey Chris watch out for Speedbead. He will sneak into your boat before you know it. He snuck into mine.
grown up watching hank parker, but i think ike would be a blast, kvd would b great as well.
Speed come on out to Ca and Ill take you. I would want to go with somebody who could put me on a bunch of big fish like Big O. Or somebody who could teach me something that I would like to learn like fishing crawdads will Bob Crupi. Or something different for me like big stripers with Fish Chris or musky with a musky expert or Big Smallmouth with Roadwarior.
Matt, if you're ever up this way, I got an open seat for you on Erie. If it's in the fall, we could also hit up some big brown trout shallow water action.

I'd be more than happy fishing with any of the Linders.
Truth be told, I'd be happy fishing with the worst fisher on the BASS, FLW or LBAA tours because they could still smoke me in a head-to-head and would teach me at least something.
Their is a ton of a great fisherman that I would love to spend a day on the water with. Hank Parker, Ike, Brent Chapman, KVD the Linders, Swindel etc...
There are a ton, but my #1 would be IKE easy.
Guy is passionate about fishing but does not take himself too seriously. He also spends a lot of time teaching and sharing what he has learned. I think on the water he would be a tremendous teacher while also not pushing it down your throat and having some good laughs the whole time.
Want to learn and have fun.
Aaron martens or ike. The way they explan things in such a simple manner would be amazing to listen to all day.
Matt Allen and fish those big swim baits with him

I may very well take you up on that offer some day.
Franchot, if your scenario ever happens I'll be in the car half-way there. LOL
See what your missing? You don't have to be a pro to do this either.
In order to exist up here and succeed like that, you really do need to come correct with a beard.
I would have to say larry dahlberg and Greg Hackney

exactly what I was goin to say. Kriet is someone I could hang around all day.
Thats a monster brown
J- Just got back from up there brown fishing! It is a BLAST!!!!! Light line and big brutes! Check my fishing report.
http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/111605-milwaukee-fishing/
I'd fish with Hank Parker and Big O and I'd record every minute on video so I could go back and watch "game film" on the trip. I think there is so much to learn from those guys!
Oh, and one more, Jesus. Now THERE'S a guy that knew how to fish!
I'll add one more to my list - Gary Klien - just the techniques and knowledge that could be bestowed upon you would be worth the trip!
JF, that Brown is SO Bad a$$ !!!
Fish
I'd also like to add another pro to spend a day with. For a purely enjoyable time I'd choose Bobby Murray.
I would love to fish a new lake with Aaron Martens. They guy is awesome at figuring out new bodies of water. Second would have to be G-Man. He just seems like a cool guy to be around and he's the junk fishing master.
On 1/9/2013 at 1:37 PM, Teal said:That would be a cool trip
I actually have done this -though I did not fish.
Like all the pros-he was able to put his lure in places the rest of us don't ever put our lures.
Spend a day fishing with--? Kate Upton.
Oh, it has to be a pro fisherman.
It would depend on whether we were in a tournament or just out for fun. If a tournament any of them would be too focused to be of much help except by observation and a few quick questions, maybe.
If for fun--so far none have been mentioned that I would not want to fish with. KVD would be at the top of my list. Grant Goldbeck would be a close second.
I have been paired with many Bassmaster Elite tour pros both in the Bassmaster Opens as a co-angler and in the Elite Series as a Marshall. They were all very friendly, professional and willing to impart knowledge to the extent time permitted. As for the non-touring pros I have been paired with as co-angler----not so much. (although often these guys had a lot of local knowledge that could be helpful).
I would have to say Shaw Grigsby. I met him when I was about 13 or 14 on SuperBowl Sunday at a boat show. Not a ton of people were there. He just finished a demonstration and I got the chance to talk to him 1 on 1 for almost 30 minutes. As a teenager, I was pumped! I really like how he asked me questions, then would respond with his own ways and advice. He was one of the nicest guys I ever met, and to this day is still my favorite bass fisherman out there!
Mark Zona. I can't watch his show without laughing.
Zona WITHOUT A DOUBT!!! And Big-O!!! If im going pro then probably Greg hackney or Gman.Or Mark rose or Alton Jones or Edwin Evers. But my first choice is DEFINITELY Zona!
Danica Patrick... on a really hot day...
oe
im 16 but If I had the choice I would pick al lindner. I like fishing the areas that he fishes, and I love fishing for smallmouth. i have a ton of episodes recorded on my tv of angling edge and his show has taught me a ton.
Jose Wejebe and Brent Ehrler would be a close second
edit: can't forget joe bucher
My favorite fisherman has always been Denny Brauer, so I would have to go with him.
On this site, I would love to fish with JFranco. I've had the pleasure of riding along on the Bullet with him, but haven't had the chance to fish with him. I'm waiting for him to show me some of those smallie spots on Ontario
For a pure good time, I would love to fish with EdBassmaster. He is the funniest dude alive
Denny is one of my favorites, too. I'd rather be a fly on the gunwale, than actually fish with him.
We'll get out soon, I got a place you should see.

I'm getting that itch real bad! I've been spinning the handle of my new (to me) Curado 200E5 for about an hour now
roadwarrior, Steve "Big O" Parks (this will happen), Fish Chris, George Welcome, Rolo to name a few
The General Larry Nixon
Having had the good fortunate to fish with many of these guys, can say you will learn several key things from any one of them and have a good time with virtually all. Z is a more intense fisherman than you might know. Honestly can't pick one.
Catt, I like the storm line, man!
Jeff Kriet. He is a true sportsman and one of the best in the world a catching deep bass. I actually might get to one day because I just married his cousin! Gotta meet him first though..
Down here in S.A in my hprovince anglers don't really fish jigs often enough. Because of my new found love of jigs it would have to be Denny Brauer. For an awesome day of laughter and fun it would be Jimmy Houston and for all out fishing experience it would definately have to be Rick Clunn. In my opinion he is the greatest that there has ever been. How do I justify this? He has simply been the most consistant angler in history...
Why KVD of course! The guy can will bass into biting.
He really is an outstanding teacher and I've always liked his Attitude...
i would have to pick Edwin Evers, being a fellow oklahoman, i think it would be a blast. my second would be Ike, he just looks like he would be really fun
Mike Folkstead out in CA. He's the worlds best finesse fisherman in the opinion of many me included. I'd just sit down and take notes and get him a sandwich while I got totally schooled on deep-clear water fishing and the thousands of drop shot variations he has in his head.
Clay Dyer, very inspirational amazing guy.
Aaron Martens and/or Hank Parker...
I would have to say Dave mercer. he is just a funny guy and he is canadian! A close second would be G-Man. He would crack me up!
Justin rackley! I am a big fan of his and he seems like he'd be a lot of fun to fish with. If you don't know who Justin rackley is just search "lakeforkguy" on YouTube.
I pick Hank Parker on the lake in NH for smallies.
I would fish with Justin Rackley. He's a younger angler who seems to be a pretty cool guy. That would be one of the best days I can think of. Fishing with Justin.
Shaw Grigsby would be awesome...dude is very funny, versatile and has his priorities in order. One of the best Florida bass fishermen on the planet.
Rick Clunn also... the guy is a bass guru. Freaky smart.
I would learn a ton fishing with either of those two guys.
Ike or Zona they both would make the trip entertaning
Kevin Van Dam. He could bring all color varieties of KVD caffeine shad and we would catch lunkas all day.
Roland Martin on Okeechobee (Fishing that lake is on the top of my list)
KVD on Lake St. Clair (Says it all!)
Gary Klein - Attended a seminar of his years ago and learned a lot. Plus he was pretty cool.
Rick Clunn (No explanation needed)
Hank Parker - I love to throw spinner baits!
I would have to say Bill Dance...he is just way too funny to pass up the chance of fishing with him.
My list would include KVD, Aaron Martens, Mike Folsted, some of my local guys: Cliff Pirch and Josh Betrand. And for non tournament fisherman I would say Bill Murphy
I'd love to fish with Gerald Swindle.
Site members- Speedbead, Big O, JFrancho, & Glenn
I'd have to say these would be mine in order:
1. Edwin Evers
2. Shaw Grigsby
3. Alton Jones
4. KVD
Just so much to learn from those guys.
I would just like to fish with Bill Dance. Not so much to learn stuff from him but to be able to fish in his private lake and catch a bunch of the hogs that live in it!
Hotrod Johnson.... because he has style!!! Hotrod's rules of the road #11, style kicks substance' butt!!! .......
"you can keep your integrity, I wanna win"!!
Aaron Martens. He is the king of drop shotting and Drop shot is my go to technique when i cant get bit on anything else. And not to mention it can be used from the coldest parts of winter to the scorching heat of the summer
Man I'm the only guy to say SKeet Reese huh? I always thought he seemed relaxed and funny. And he is a dn good fisherman
Al Lindner for sure.....I'd love to fish smallies with him, on the lake and river. I know I'd learn some things and enjoy his company.
Bill Dance.I think he is the most knowledgeable fisherman alive.
Im gonna have to go with the big guys Kevin Van Dam or Bill Dance. Bill Dance give multiple tips and helpful ways to make you a better angler.
On the other hand KVD is the best bass fisherman ever. He has lots of experience and knowledge on bass fishing. He is probably the angler with the most helpful fisherman you can chose.
Does Bill Dance count?
Alive:
OK, Gerald Swindle has to be up there. I'd just ask him a bunch of personal questions and try to figure out that dude. I'm sure I'd laugh plenty. But Ish or Dean Rojas would be fun so I could fine tune my frogging.
Deceased:
I'd love to fish with Doug Hannon just so I can pick his brain on Bass behavior.
You know, I have to agree with those who have said Aaron Martens. If there is one thing I struggle with, it is finesse fishing when the fish are totally turned off. In really difficult tournaments Aaron Martens ALWAYS does well.
Definitely Brent Ehrler. I need help on deep water techniques.
Haven't read to see who a lot of people are choosing, but I would say either Jeff Kreit or Shaw Grigsby. Followed closely by Bill Dance and KVD.

I choose Bill Dance first. Good pointers and a ton of laughs....at his expense of course.
Bill Dance, Mark Zona and Dave Mercer - I think id be laughing more then fishing though.
