I always hear people say how they dont like braid, ceramic bearings, etc due to noise. But does this actually bother you to the point you will not use certain products. To me I absolutley love noise. I think one of the best sounds is setting the hook with braid in heavy cover and it screaming through the guides as you wrench that fish in. Just thinking about that noise get my adrenaline going lol. So its hard for me to see how any one would hate it. So does it actually bother you?
Doesn't bother me in the slightest. If you think braid is noisy then try flyfishing, it is inherently more noisy that conventional in my opinion when you are throwing the heavier weighted rods and flies.
I have to say that the noise does not bother me one bit, and you are right I kind of like it
Pay it no attention.
Doesn't bother me at all
Braid noise no, ceramic bearing I don't know as I have never used them, but I can imagine that might bother...
Depends on the amount and what kind. One specific briad I used was awful with noise stopped use of it. The 8 strand I use now wouldnt know I have braid on. Ceramic bearing was borderline but performance gain trumped it plus after extended use it much much less noise now. Brake noise dont like at all. Gear noise is another no no like the BPS Carbonlite reel.
I fish almost everyday, most of the time from the shore. There is nothing better then fishing a bank and listening to Pandora at the same time. It helps me concentrate on what Im doing. So noise is never a problem for me, I can always mask it out with something I really enjoy.
to echo QUAKENSHAKE, for me it totally depends on what kind of noise. There is such a thing as bad sounds and good sounds and I am aware that it totally subjective. For instance, I had a Calcutta GTB (8 bearing model) that I benched for a couple of years because it had an annoying little "click" when I retrieved a bait. Didn't effect the function of the reel I don't think, just didn't like it. DVT fixed that for me and now it is back in the starting line up. Any new reel that has any whirr or gear noise to it I won't buy. I find all clickers and noise makers on reels annoying. Line related sounds, not so much. Many Zebco spin cast reels have an annoying sound to them.
I've tried listening to music while I was fishing, seems to me like it detracted from the fishing experience. Music is for driving to & from the lake, at least for me. I do like listening to ball games on those rare times when I'm on the water when a Royals game is on the radio.
I sold a Legend Xtreme spinning rod because the recoil guides were noisy with nanofil
braid in guides noise=good.
heckling fish noise=bad.
My partner is removing all his braid and replacing it with floro. He reckons the noise scares the fish. hahaha
Does not bother me at all. In fact I enjoy certain types of it. Line thru guides and etc.
Fishing noises don't bother me. People noises irritate me a lot more.
Braid noise............honestly, I barely notice it. The one noise I can not stand, even more than jet ski's, is the wind in my ear. If it's windy I have to put earbuds in and listen to music or it will drive me off the water.
Equipment noise doesn't bother me, human noise can be very annoying.

Drives me ape, hate the sound of braid. I guess for me its what fingernails on chalkboards is for other ppl.
I am completely indifferent about braid noise. I don't use braid much, but noise is not the reason. We are all different when it comes to what pushes our buttons. ww2farmer for me the sound of wind is no problem. Earbuds and music would drive me off the water quickly though.
Just what sort noise do ceramic bearings make?
Personally love the sound of braid going through the guides, especially when you're winding in a big'un!
The only noise that bothers me is the chirping sound from a fishfinder is on and I am not catching anything.
I've been known to exchange sour... "unpleasantries" with some rather noisy Canada Geese before but otherwise...what noise?
The noise that bothers me the most are the airboats.. they just makes me nuts!!
You can here them coming 1/2 mile away.
When those guys wind those things up, its like standing on an airport runway.
Mike
I don't use braid very often, but when I do I always get caught a little off guard and think that something is grinding. I am sure if I used it more, I'd get used to it.
Alot of noises bother me.........that is not one of them.
Na, doesnt bother me. If I'm not paying attention to the cast it lets me know when to stop the spool.
I love the noise. Its gets my adrenaline pumping!
noise typically doesnt bother me at all, a lot of times im listening to music on the dock when i take my trips to Smith Mtn Lake. dont use braid, so no problem there either...
The sweetest noise/sound, is that of a fish pulling out line against the drag.
braid noise is music to my ears
My equipment sounds do not bother me.
Air boats I can not stand. Why do the people on the airboats wear earmuffs and then think they can not possibly be bothering other people? Don't even tell me about the people on the boats having to wear ear protection to protect THEIR ears and try to convince me that it is not irritating to the rest of the people around them.
And then, of all things, guys with boom boxes on their boats. Man that sound travels across water.
I like the bearing noise on a cast actually. Don't know why. The braid/guide sometimes bothers me if it's really quiet at the lake. Noise from my spinning reels drives me up the wall when the lake is quiet and I'm finesse fishing.
When I'm fishing, jet skis, loud music, circular saws, leaf blowers, hammering, incessant dog barking, screaming kids, yes, those noises bother me. Braided line going through the guides, no.
Have to admit that certain braids bother me. Some are just noisier and I seem to have better luck with the quieter braids when reeling in swim jigs. Rods and guides affect how noisey braid can be too. As for bearings, I have updated almost all of my reels to ceramic abec 7's. I will take the extra distance and control any day. I have gotten so used to the ceramic bearings I don't even think about them. In fact, when I am using a reel that don't have them I wonder what is wrong with it. Cant listen to the radio when fishing, every cast and retrieve takes attention and concentration. The radio is for taking a break or eating a lunch.
^^^ha ha. Didn't even think about the radio. My dad likes to play a radio while fishing and it bugs the heck out of me too. Fishing is my quiet time
My dad was easily irritated by noise, and I suppose I'm a chip off the ole block.
But I've come to realize that I'm not at all bothered by natural sounds (thunder & crickets)
but do have a short fuse for unnecessary noise due to inconsideration (like a loudmouth in a fine restaurant).
That said, since 2006 I've been fishing exclusively with braided line, and I have yet to hear a sound
Roger
The noise of my 50 pound braid reeling in a mule on the end of my jig is no where near as loud as me yelling, "stay on baby stay on!"

Doesn't bother me at all.
The only noises that bother me are from outside sources like landscapers with their equipment. I do understand they are not there to bother me but to earn a living and they are just doing their job, usually gone in a few minutes and all is well again. I do not like the sound of cast nets, music and bait fishermen, I generally remove myself and go to another location. A confrontation isn't worth the hassle and where some of these people are inconsiderate, they aren't breaking any laws.
Briad noise dosnt bother, bad reel grinding noises do. As for other sounds, banging around in the boat bothers me. Voices not at all. I believe that the fish feel vibrations from banging around in the boat and what not, I don't believe they hear sounds.
Brian
I do get bothered by the sound of braid rubbing up against heavy weed cover like milfoil and others like it, but if I notice the line on the weeds that usually means i am not having a very successful day and am getting annoyed or blaming the day on the line noise. I honestly only use braid when I have to ie frogs, punching, and heavy jigs. Ceramic bearings do not bother me at all, most of the moving baits I use like spinnerbaits and crankbaits make quite a bit of noise and distraction in the water that the bearing noise would most likely not have an effect in performance of the lure. lures like swimbaits and swim jigs I typically either put light oil on the bearing or use a a different more quiet bearing as it may make a difference. Maybe...

Nope
Love that sound!
Braid coming through the guides is the best sound EVER!
I hate braid and one of the main reasons is the noise. I wont use it. The #1 reason is because it is way to visible. #2 is because it cuts to easy against rocks and #3 is the horrible noise.

I had a Cabela's XMLti with the recoil guides that I sold because the sound of braid coming through the guides drove me crazy.
The one sound that drives me absolutely insane while I'm fishing is the sound of my phone ringing. It seems I get 10X the phone call and texts when I'm on the water as I do when I'm not.
Don't notice it much.
Noticed it a lot especially early on in the day as the sun is rising. Could'nt stand it. I dont think I'd ever sell a rod because of it but I did convert back to mono. A wrist injury is causing me to pick up spinning gear again and I'm struggling with the other negatives of braid, trying to get used to it.
