What fishing gear did you get from others (not stuff you bought for yourself)? In my family, fishing stuff is what I buy for myself because no one knows what to get. So sadly, I won't get any fishing related gifts, lol. I'll live vicariously through you guys.

I'm basically in the same position that you are in that my family doesn't have a clue what to get me. Thankfully, my wife is pretty good about getting me the things that I pick out or just giving me gift certificates. I did really well in the fishing department this year with gifts of a Quantum fisherman's tool (a small "leatherman's" tool that can be clipped to your shirt or fishing boxes), an Ice Rigger (rod tender for ice fishing), a large Plano 3700 tackle box with 6 insert boxes and a $250 gift certificate to Field and Stream. My wife was even kind enough to give me the certificate last week because I had to be in Erie, PA to pick up my son at college so I've already redeemed it. I got a St. Croix trout series 6'4" UL rod, a Daiwa Cielo 6'9" MLXF rod and a Lew's Speed Spool Tournament MG reel.
I'm very pleased with the haul.

But did get some great gifts like sweaters; kaki's; two super books on tape: Killing Patton and George W. Bush on his dad; plus an iPhone holder for my wife's Jeep so I can use the WAZE system when I drive it.
Heading to grandkids home later today and can't wait to see what they got me.

Got one of the skeet reese a-rig rods (lets not hate on the rod, it was on sale for $50) that I will be using to throw small swimbaits like the s-waver 168s, 6" BBZ, and my hardgill. Santa got a 9" storm swimshad for me as well but I don't think he understands the difference between that and a Hudd. Either way it will see use on the Chesapeake Bay tomorrow

I got a super magnum soft tackle bag from Cabelas. It will hold 12 3700 boxes in main compartment.....and 3 3600 boxes in 3 other pockets and still has 2 more pockets....plus places for my pliers and stuff.

A couple of BPS gift cards, a on board battery charger for my Pond Prowler (I kinda gave her the model number), a new fishing shirt, a new fishing hat & a new cooler that fits my boat.
The hat was a surprise because it is one of the B.A.S.S. camo hats that you can only get when you sign up as a member. I really like the fit of it, but my current one is about 10 years old & shows the wear & tear of such. My son found one on eBay, apparently by a someone who is ashamed to be a member or just doesn't like the hat. My wife wants me to hold off wearing the new one until May when I marshal the Elite tournament on Havasu, but I may just have to break it before that...

New Dobyns rod with a Revo STX! Santa was very good to me this year! Also got a bunch of stuff to make some jigs. I've never made my own jigs before, so we'll see how this goes. My goal for next year is to catch a bass on a lure I made.

Good luck with it. I bought one last year and you can't see anything on the screen in the day light only at night. I don't fish any at night so it doesn't do any good . From the Orochi XX line of rods? If yes, I have had that vary rod for 2 years and love it. It is the only rod I would ever purchase a second of. Best multi purpose rod I have used and the sensitivity of the blank is great when combined with Tatsu.

That's the one. I'm going to try the Orochi XX rods because they are known for their versatility, and I'm trying to put together a set for fishing co-angler/back of the boat situations where I need to keep my rod count down. Already have the Shakey Head spinning rod. Also considering the Flatside Special and the Perfect Pitch. Won't be able to wait until next Christmas to fill out the lineup though. I have the Shakeyhead spinning rod as well. The rod was a new addition spring of this year. Have you fished yours yet? I am on the fence about mine as it fishes lighter in power than I thought it would. Seems great for under 5/16 oz but feels pushed as it gets closer to 3/8. The series as a whole is outstanding minus the full retail price, higher amount of cork filler, and somewhat limited warranty coverage. Sounds like you should be set with a handful of these rods depending upon what you wanted to accomplish with them...

I've fished it quite a bit and I like it. I use it for pretty much every finesse application I can't use a baitcaster for, so I actually like the action of it being a bit lighter. I find it works well for how I fish a drop-shot rig. I frequently will cast it and work it bank down slopes, and the action is better for dragging the weight over obstructions than a true drop-shot rod would be. I received 100 bucks, combined with my BPS gift card from my birthday 50, I'm saving them both up for the Spring Classic at BPS (reel trade in) for my first Curado I, if I don't like it..I will get another Chronarch CI4+. On top of that I got a subscription for 1 year with LTB from my lovely wife. LTB helps me get through the winter months/blues.

My brother in law bought that reel last year and loves it.I have a cardinal series from Abu and it is a lot smoother than my real. But I am a huge fan of Abu Garcia and like just about everything on their line up. I just bought the Ike Dude off eBay for $25 and use it as a pan fish rod.
But I also have the silver max, pro max, and cardinal. Planing on buying the orra winch as a musky reel until I can get the Toro.
Oh. I know the bait caters you can always upgrade the bearings for better quality, right off the bat to improve performance. Sometimes you get lucky and get it for free. We had a musky expo here in MN last year and some reps where there from Abu. He told me if I brought in my reels he would oil/grease them. Inspect and replace bearing for free.. and be damned they did.

I bought a bunch of equipment for myself because after my first year of tournament fishing, the bait monkey really gets ya. Just learned a lot about what equipment/lures I wanted to have stock of and improve upon as well.

Didn't really ask for anything fishing related. I tend to buy exactly what I want on my own.
I did get a pair of Maui Jim Ho'okipa Sunglasses. I will wear them all the time, but they'll be best used while I'm fishing off my kayak this year. I have a really large head, and they are one of the few make/models that fit and don't look ridiculous on my melon.

I got quite a few gift cards for TW and BP so I used them to buy some duo realis lipless cranks, some LC pointers and some new spinner baits. I used my BP ones for some 100 mph bibs, I'll get the jacket later since they're on sale right now at the store.

I got one of these from my bride. She wasn't supposed to get me anything since she went overboard in Sept and got me a Stradic for my birthday. But she suprised me.

I fish mostly from the bank or a small inflatable Sea Eagle, so this will be very nice to have. I've tried it out and it works very well.
