Both many moons ago.
My best was a 21", 5 lbs, Lg. Mth.. Not much by Southern standards, but not bad for Northern Wisconsin, caught Aug.,23,1981. Used a spinner-bait over submerged weeds. There was a deeper hole in the weeds, I let it helicopter down and came out crankin' as hard as I could, and the bass nailed it as hard as it could.
I got a 4 3/4 pound smallie on the river using a craw-fish jig and the same color twister tail. I was slipping the river casting up stream and bringing it back just a little bit faster then the current. Every-time I came to a spot with an undercut, where the long grass bent over to touch the water I got a fish. I took a five fish limit. The smallest was 2 1/2 lbs the biggest was the 4 3/4 lbs. The rest in-between. I won the local tournament One of the few that I ever won .
I'm supposin' that your talkin' bass, else I did get a 51 inch musky about 5 years ago on a bass size spinner-bait, in my canoe, using 12 lb test line and a 6'6" spinning rod. That was mid to late Oct. I was slow rollin' for a bass. She hit, I hung on, she pulled the canoe around. I never took it out of the water, but my partner measured it. We said good bye to the musky and hello to the gin mill.
A good time was had by all. ;D next day :-[ :-[

LMB:
Personal best is a 7-2 on a 10" Power Worm with a 1/2 oz. tungsten weight.
Last year's best was 6-0 on a 3/4 oz. black and blue jig with a Zoom Super Chunk.
SMB:
Personal best was 4-8, IIRC, and was caught with a live softshell crayfish on a split shot rig.
Last year's best was unmeasured, and came on a Sammy 115 in Aurora Black. Probably about 4 lbs, give or take.
6lb LMB on a 1/8oz ballhead jig with a no name generic 3" shad body.
The best part is that I got her on a bad cast. I was casting toward the shore from about 25' out and overshot badly, getting hung up in the grass on the bank. After 2 or 3 tugs to try and free it up, it plopped into the water about 3' from the bank and was immediately nailed. At first I thought "good job, you got out of the grass and snagged a log" but then she started to run and the fight was on....
Mine would probably have to be about 5. I caught it on a t rigged zoom trick worm pitchin to the docks.

Paul
April of 1992 on a purple culprit worm. 7 lbs 6 oz
It was back in the early 80's on a 12 inch Manns Jelly worm that I had originally bought as a joke. I believe it was a 12 incher, I remember they used to sell them in 2 packs. She weighed 15.7.
Sadly this was back in the old days when we just didn't know any better and everyone kept their catch. Hell, catch and release was a term used by fishermen who were just too lazy to clean their catch. Now days, I wouldn't even dream of killing such a magnificent animal.
BTW, the one in my avatar is only a 13 pounder.
I caught a 11.8 pound bass on a Rapala #9 yellow shad rap.

First two six-pounders on a black Cavitron buzzbait.
Second two six-pounders on a white grub.
Third two six-pounders on a drop shot using a finesse worm.
All were over six pounds each, but I don't really keep records on the fish I catch.
I just admire their beauty and let them go.
But...with that said, I am going back and try to catch them all again this year.
My personal best was also the first bass I ever caught. I caught it on a 4 inch watermelon Senko, bullet sinker pegged. I thought I caught a tree limb. It came up like an old boot but it's still the largest bass I've caught so far. That's the bass pictured in my avatar.
5 lbs, 3 oz.
Both were caught the same year (2007):
Largemouth: 9 lbs 1oz, Lake Fork road trip (March), 3/4oz white spinnerbait
Smallmouth: 5lbs. 12oz, John Day River (September), wacky rigged Senko

I caught my biggest bass on a 1/8 oz. Black Maribou Road Runner while I was fishing for panfish---from shore. I didn't have a scale on me, but there was no doubt that fish was pushing 7lbs. And for NY that is a very nice bass.
My Partner got her 9 lber early in the morning on a buzzbait. I got my 5 lber on a chatterbait.
I don't know but it must have had magical properties because by the time I got the bass to the boat, it had grown to over twice it's original size. ;D

PB River Smallie is the one in my avatar which was a 20 incher caught on a Case Sinking Salty Shad.
PB Largemouth was a 10 pound 7 oz. fish I caught on a buoyant wooly bugger fished on a full sink fly line. It came from a private pond.

Mine came on a jitterbug two summers ago. It was still dark out and I caught a 22 inch long largemouth bass...scared the crap out of me. I have no idea how much it weighed..didn't have a scale.
