Siebert Outdoor....what Makes Them So Good? 2024

fishing user avatarfishinthedacks reply :

This year I plan to do a lot of jig fishing. Especially early in the season with Craw trailers. Speaking with another local fisherman/business owner on this site (Delware Valley Tackle) he says jig fishing near the locks near us is a good idea, and as I planned on doing that to start the year anyways I have been looking at a lot of jigs. Everynight I load my shopping cart at http://www.siebertoutdoors.com/ full of jigs that match trailers I want etc. and while I know very little about jigs I do see compared to my local shops they are slightly more in price plus I have to pay for shipping. I have read a ton of good "thank you I love them" posts on here but nothing really "selling" them as a product. Please give me some reasons to click checkout on that cart tonight! I have a whole 2 jigs in my collection both black and blue and both were sent in MTB/TB/LTB style boxes. I was looking at them at BPS and a random tournament fisherman even said they were the best jigs but I was more interested in picking his brian about frogs and reels and forgot to come back to jig fishing.

Also you don't have to sell me on customer service because I have read 10000 stories about rush shipping for tournaments, and going the extra mile for customers. This to me is HUGE! But good customer service keeps me a customer it doesn't sell me. Also reading his posts he seems like a great guy and very helpful. I'm sold on him, just want to be sold on shelling out the cash on this big shopping cart I have full....

fishing user avatarfishinthedacks reply :

Also some ideas on what to add to my cart size/color/type etc. I'll be mostly using them on the Mohawk river fishing near the locks.

fishing user avatardreamertino reply :

The paint and coating process he uses is second to none. I literally hot one of his brush heads stuck between two rocks, yanked and yanked and it popped free the color was still there. Compared to a mom and pop jig I got and was just bouncing it along the rocks and lost my pain in a half hr. Also the dredge series has owner deep throat hooks. I am a fan of owner hooks due to there sharpness. Once you get em they're stuck. The color options are second to none and Mikes customer service is second to none. He also has two day shipping and can even rush orders if needed. To sum it up when you get the jigs they are so beautiful you would want to hang them on the wall, but they would do you more justice on the end of your line. I would keep it basic on colors. Green, brown, and black and blue will do for starters. If you are fishing rocks I would use football heads. I like 3/8 oz for a starting point and heavier if you have a lot of current. Fishing brush the brush head and arkey. Star slow and be patient with the jigs and it will pay off

fishing user avatarfishinthedacks reply :

Thanks a lot! It is tough to see the colors because I look at the site through either a smaller smart phone or older laptop where all the colors look washed. I had a feeling that the quality was there but I cant exactly see that. Durability is a big plus since I will be fishing a lot of rocks and that's what I have is football head jigs thus far. This answer is exactly what I have been looking for. Looks like I'm going to take that 40.00 + shipping plunge. I have spent about 400.00 on fishing gear this last month so was trying to take it easy this month and limit it to my two mystery boxes and either a Sieberts order, or getting some River2Sea stuff I've been wanting to get since I got a 20% discount. I know I need the jigs though and I'm doing pretty well on craws, frogs, poppers, and other top water baits I had in my cart over there.

Thanks again for the response.

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

Honestly, the jigs are way better than typical stuff on the shelves. And as far as prices go, they're pretty inexpensive if you consider how long a wire tied bait lasts.

fishing user avatargripnrip reply :

A custom tied jig. Multiple head color choices.  Good quality hooks.  Starting at 2.75 a pop!  What's not to like about that?!  If you have anything special in mind and email Mike, he'll get it done if he can!

All of the above and especially this…. and I know you said customer service doesn't SELL you…. BUT it should.  His quality is off the charts and I received a "custom" emailed order in a very short period of time.  100% satisfied

fishing user avatarrippin-lips reply :

It's just an excellent product at a very good price. Also being a nice guy and having great customer service doesn't ever hurt. I bought 100 bare jig heads and each one of them are perfect as far as the pourings go. No extra lead anywhere and all the weed guards tightly grouped. The finish is great too. No clogged line ties.

fishing user avatarRaul reply :

The answer is simple, GMan makes the stuff by himself like it it was made for him, the things you find on the shelves are made by people that don't make the stuff for them.

fishing user avatarshootermcbob reply :

Besides EVERY thing else, MIke sponsors this website.

fishing user avatarGlenn reply :

Well guys, as with a lot of sponsors here, I evaluated Mike and his work before going forward with him becoming a sponsor.  Really a sponsorship is an endorsement of BassResource as much as it's an endorsement of the sponsor.  I want to ensure that if BassResource sends members to a sponsor, they'll be confident the product and service will be top-notch.

Simply put, Mike and his work exceeds expectations.

An no, I'm not just saying that.

I BOUGHT over 50 jigs from Mike, because they're just that good.  The paint is hard to chip, the hooks won't bend easily, and the wire-tied skirts just adds to the durability.  I put jigs in places most people are afraid to go.  Suffice to say, I beat the snot out my jigs.  Most of Siebert's jigs still look new, despite the rigorous workouts I give them.

Not only that, but he has custom colors that perfectly match RageTail plastics!  How cool is that?  You can perfectly match your jigs and trailers for an unbelievable fish-catching machine.  Bass just crush 'em!

fishing user avatarnormmcclean reply :

They are the best jigs out there bar none. Custom lures at a steal of a price. I can assure you this is more of a labor of love for Mike cause the time he has in each lure for the low price he charges plus the high quality components he is making less than minimum wage on his lures. A lot of bass fishing is having something the fish haven't seen a hundred times before this is where the color selection and premium finish makes a difference especially on the better size older fish that jig fishing targets. I have been co-angler countless times and have mopped up fish that my angler in the bow never got a bump from

fishing user avatardoyle8218 reply :

2nd to none !!!

fishing user avatarGrizzn N Bassin reply :

haven"t gotten any yet but like glenn said it helps the site!

fishing user avatarBridgerM reply :

I ordered a couple of his stocking stuffer packs for christmas and I was very impressed with the jigs. as mentioned, the wire tie is great, the paint looks very durable, the colors choices are endless. You won't find a better jig for these prices at a local shop, I couldn't anyway. I plan on buying more from Mike as soon as I loose them all or catch my first bass on a jig. You won't be disappointed.

fishing user avatarbigbill reply :

Mike's quality exceeds what I been using in the past. Plus there custom made to order in any color and size combination. No one does that for that affordable price.

The biggest plus is Mike is a Sponcer here. We support him and he supports this forum for us. It's a win/win situation.

I purchased many jigs from Mike so I have a stash. If I ever lose one when I get home I can replace it for my next days trip.

I just go x2 on my cart list.

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

Let's look at the proposition:

Does "value" exceed "price" (V>P)?

The simple answer is YES.

fishing user avatarjhoffman reply :

thats not paint, its powder coating

fishing user avatarbassin is addicting reply :

mike's jigs are by far the best i have ever used.  they are top quality in every way.  and his customer service is 2nd to none.  he will respond to an email in less than 24hrs....many times in much, much less time than that.  and he will make a custom order if you want...there are no negatives at all.  plus, isn't it pretty cool to catch fish on a jig that has been made for you,  by someone you know.

fishing user avatarBrian Needham reply :

1.wire tied (yes I know many do that but it still adds value)

2.solid colors, with custom options...... ask mike some of the crazy things I have asked him "is it possible" and yes I am still plotting in my mind before I send in my new order

3. is a strong jig fisherman himself, he wont sell what he wont fish

4. Owner deep throats!!! BEST... JIG... HOOK... EVER.

fishing user avatarPreytorien reply :

I've been using Mike's jigs now for several months and I can attest that the head paint stays put, the skirts are very durable, and the quality of the jig is simply impeccable. He takes great care in making sure his jigs and products are high quality and boy does it show.

I get a kick out of throwing my jigs in the nastiest cover I can find, as many here probably do, and I have yet to even hang one because his weedguards are perfect.

Add to that the additional benefit you get with customer service. I've asked Mike questions about fishing certain jigs and certain conditions. He's always prompt with his reply and offers great direction on the use of the lures he crafts.

I use the Dredge Brush head which has the Owner Deep Throat Hook, which is top notch quality.

If you were to compare almost exclusively and based on the prices for Terminator, Strike King, and Booyah jigs, Mike's price beats em' and you get a custom product that I've found to be better quality and more durable. Sure you pay a few bucks in shipping, but comparing his shipping costs and time to BPS or Cabelas, he's got them beat hands down.

You'll be glad you pulled the trigger on the ones in your cart. They're good stuff.

fishing user avatar5dollarsplash reply :

Mikes jigs have taken me from a guy with no jigs in the tackle box, to a guy that primarily throws jigs.  I won't say that it wouldn't have happened with another brand, but after reading everyones recommendations awhile back, and talking to Mike, I had confidence in his jigs before even trying them.

Almost everytime I've ordered from Mike, I've sent him a message first, asking for advice on colors/weights/shape, always answers and helps.  Nothing against other companies, but you don't get that kind of service very often.

fishing user avatarDrewski73 reply :

For those that say customer service doesnt sell them, let me tell you a story.

I placed a "regular" sized order from Mike, more than $20 less than $50. The kind that my wife doesnt ask about! I got his item shipped email in 5 days or so, but a week later the jigs werent here (theyre always here in 2 days, always). I emailed Mike for a tracking number, telling him they hadnt arrived yet, and along with my tracking number came an email that said "Please let me know if it doesnt show up, Ill take care of you". Who does that?

USPS miraculously found the package after I filed a complaint so he never had to take care of me, but he wouldve.

I was a loyal customer before that, but Ill buy Mikes jigs til I stop fishing after that!

Theyre not all I buy, but theyre what I buy most.

fishing user avatarkickerfish1 reply :

Just another satisfied customer here. Have ordered probably 4 or 5 times from Mike and most of the orders have been $60-$100 each. Great products and options to select from on his website. I have had Mike craft up some custom color options for me and he still has the "recipe" for these. He answers his phone and email promptly and it is more like talking to a life long friend than business man.

fishing user avatarfishguy613 reply :

couldnt resist that owner deep throat hook :)

My thoughts exactly.

To add my thoughts; If you want to learn about jigs simply ask Mike anything about them and you will get an education that, to me, Is priceless. Take what has been discussed onto the water with you and you will be a better jig fisherman.

As for price and product it's hard to beat. Throw In the great customer service and that Is the reason(s) I fish Siebert jigs exclusively.

As an aside, I can promise you that If you asked Mike for jig advice you'll get all the Information you ask for (and more) even if you don't buy a single jig from the man.

fishing user avatarshimmy reply :

Well the reality is you can always find a company with good hooks, good paint jobs, good ties, and good skirts. However, for those top end jigs, his prices are better, and they look as good as it gets. Furthermore, the biggest selling point for me after the fact that his jigs are cheaper than top end jigs, is the customization of his jigs. Go to his website, and custom pick what you want. Pick a jig, choose if you want a band, wire tied, or rattles with rattle band; then choose what size, then what color, then if you only want the jig head, then hook style, then if you want 5 which is often even discounted more. To me, it is the variety that he provides that allows you not to just get the one size fits all jig, but to customize it the way you want and never have to worry about poor components. Seriously, good luck finding another site that provides this much variety for jigs on a website. Jig fishing is about confidence; using his jigs eliminates all doubts and all you are left to wondering on the water is whether or not the fish feel like biting. You really cannot go wrong, make a small order to see for yourself.

fishing user avatarcrankcaster100 reply :

I bought a ton of jigs earlier this month and they are beautiful compared to the ones on the shelves

And the order turn around time was fast

And I don't think bass resource is going to have a sponsor that sells less than good quality items

fishing user avatarbigbill reply :

Let's put it this way Mike probably started making jigs for himself. It's his love for the art of making these fine quality jigs that he is willing to share with us.

God bless, bigbill

fishing user avatarflipin4bass reply :

I love the hooks Mike uses...Owner hooks...it doesn't get any better. I knew the first time I held one of his jigs in my hand that I'd never use any other brand.

fishing user avatarWashout reply :

It's your money, I don't feel comfortable telling you how to spend it even when you are asking for help doing such. If you think someone else wants your business more, then by all means use them. I think Mike has earned enough respect on his own to deserve the credit he's getting.

fishing user avatarcabrela reply :

I´m sold!!!

fishing user avatarGigg reply :

I just got my order about 3 weeks ago and I love them. My home lake has a lot of rocks and I'm always throwing jigs but they chip like crazy. I've tried multiple brands and they always chip on the first outing but Siebert's have held up amazingly even after a few trips so far. I also really like the dredge head with the owner deep throat, awesome hook!

Those are the heads I use, they're insanely durable. I've never chipped or hung one, and I throw that thing in the nastiest stuff you can find.

NO! I'm HUGE on customer service. It does sell me BIG TIME. I was just saying you don't need to sell my on customer service because I have already ready 100 reviews on how good his customer service is. And he seems like the nicest guy coming and going. I just wanted to know what makes you all keep going back besides the customer service. Again my laptop and phone the color is very washed. All my lures I own look 100x better in person than the pictures so I couldn't judge on the colors from the internet.

fishing user avatarfishinthedacks reply :

I wanted to post the customer service reply first as anyone who misread that I wanted to just let you know you were reading it wrong. I've been in customer service and sales most of my life and the reason I continue to make bigger commissions selling an inferior product (Just to clear it up I sell an inferior product/Mike doesn't) is my customer service and going the extra mile. So good customer service recognizes it when they see it.

I just wanted to feel comfortable that my money this month was going in the right place. Had some issues come up this week with another business I worked with recently and had to go to war so I haven't been online at all this week except to answer private messages on here. I thank you all for your input and the waters are all open now and I could be out jig fishing right now but I didn't even find time this week to get my license (Which I'm doing tomorrow). So I didn't get to click checout on Mikes' Jigs either.

This kind of response is truly unreal. Honestly I'd be shocked if you all didn't bring a tear to his eyes as he read this. This kind of backing, customer loyalty and affirmation that you are doing this good of a job doing something you love is just unbelievable. I am sending Mike an email right after this for some advice on jigs. I already know a lot of what I want based on trailers I already have that I want to use. But from the sounds of it if I don't take advantage of picking his brain and adding jigs based on his reccomendations I would be doing myself a huge disservice.

Honestly couldn't be more excited about receiving his jigs (and to be honest jigs are something I'm indifferent about) but for the first time ever I'm excited to see this quality first hand.

fishing user avatarDelaware Valley Tackle reply :

I've got an order on the way too. We'll have to get together for a Jig Break-In Party.

fishing user avatarfishinthedacks reply :

Had I known that I would have gave you the money for my order maybe saved a couple of dollars on shipping at least. I'm pretty new to jig fishing so I could use all the help I can get.(Especially since you and a hanful of other local fisherman have said that's the best way to fish the Mohawk)  My jig fishing experience, I could break my record in time fishing with a jig by one or two days out haha. To be honest I always just did a weedless rig with the trailers you would normally jig fish with and did quite well if it was weighted. So this year I really want to focus on all my weaknesses to see if I could possibly find a method or two that helps me get more fish in the boat.

I get all my licenses online. They call the site DECALS and can be accessed thru the NYS DEC site. As for local places, I'd check with the Sportsman's Den or maybe the Town Clerk's office.

fishing user avatar1234567 reply :

Like some have mentioned there are other quality jig makers out there.  Mike's business approach is textbook.  He puts out a quality product at a great price and treats all his customers like they are number one.  You can NOT beat this approach.  I have contacted him on a couple of occasions and he has always come through.  I will not buy any other jigs but his for all reasons stated above.  Also as Shimmy stated the versatility in how many different ways you can have your jigs built to order is fantastic.

And look wise it looks better than some 7.00-8.00 jigs I have and fishes just as well.
