Rage Tail Baits 2024

fishing user avatarnickb reply :

I'm wanting to buy the Rage Tail Shad. But I went to the store the other day and saw that they were 6 bucks for five of them.  I decided to get some different baits instead.  For people who have used them, are they worth the money for the amount that you get?

fishing user avatarburleytog reply :

The shad, IMO, no.  Everything else, yes.

fishing user avatarbrgbassmaster reply :

HECK YA the rage tail shad is awesome thats the only topwater bait i can get bass to hit down here. the strikes are phenominal and awesome action i suggest buying them.

fishing user avatargarry77 reply :

I haven't done so well with the shads but the frogs work awesome. And the craws and chunks are what I use the most for a jig trailer.

fishing user avatarBassAssasin2 reply :

The rage tail shad is awsome but can get very expensive, they have a nasty habbit of getting their tails ripped off. And they usually last about 2-3 fish and sometimes only one. The rage tail toad is awsome and a bit more rugged. They both work great. And if your lucky may last a few bass and be worth the extra money. : ;D

fishing user avatarTim Ford reply :

To be honest, I don't like the shad at all.  It seems very bulky, and seems to make too much splash on top.  To me, I think it would be more likely to scare a fish than to attract one.  Maybe on very choppy water it would work well.  I don't know.  I bought a pack last year, and I still have most of them in the pack.  I may have used them twice.  Under the circumstances, I go for a good buzz bait instead of the Rage Tail shad every time.

fishing user avatarburleytog reply :

If you absolutely have to catch a fish, tie on a Rage Shad and you will catch a fish.  My problem with the bait is simply that the tail is too fragile.  One short strike is all it takes to ruin the bait.

If not for that one 'flaw', the bait would make buzzbaits obsolete.

fishing user avatarKYntucky Warmouth reply :

I'm not a fan of the shad, have a pack that was given to me and just haven't really got into them.  I would rather throw a frog or toad for a topwater plastic...but that's just me

fishing user avatarTommyBass reply :

In my opinion all of the RAGE baits are wayyyy over priced. This will probably make some people mad... but I feel that alot of them are complete rip offs of a basic idea zoom and others have been doing for years (the back cut V). The rage may push a little more water in some cases, but hardly. The lobster is almost identical to the zoom craw with the same action. The chunk can be compared to the zoom trailer, and both actions are good (the rage product looks a little more realistic on that one). And their toad is nothing more than a horny toad. I have a friend that is a huge zoom fanatic and he uses those zoom trailers (swears and dies by them) and catches just as many if not more fish than with the rage. And they are half the price and you get 3 more. RAGE is nothing more than that..... yet another bait monkey craze/rage that is hardly waranted. Their lizard and space monkeys seem unique, but again, doubtfully worth the price. I have no experience with the shad. The pack of craws I did try, I also noticed the poor quality of the plastics and had pinchers bit off of 3 of them after not much use.

I don't doubt the effectiveness of the product, I just feel there are equal products out there for much less money, especially for the everyday angler. Yet another great advertising and propaganda scheme from Strike King. Can't wait until they start comming out with sexy shad colored Rage products! ::o

Well now, this thread surprises me...

As a confirmed Yamamoto-holic, I have been extremely impressed

with the Rage Tail line-up. In addition to my own success with

their products, I have personally watched others slay 'em with

both the Shad and Lobster. The Anaconda is awesome for targeting

big bass and has proven itself in several Professional Tournaments.

So, Rage Tail has a permanent place in my line-up and if you are

not fishing the Shad, Lobster and the Anaconda, you are making a

big mistake! I rate the entire product line, AAA.

They are good and expensive, I would suggest paca craws and paca chunks as a cheap alternative.  They have a ton of action just like the rage baits.

fishing user avatarrondef reply :

I have been using the Rage Tail baits for a year now and have caught many large bass with them. Rage Tail baits are they only plastics I use any more and I think that they are well worth the money. These baits are designed for targeting big bass and they perform well. Yes they are pricey but I believe the price is worth it because you are buying a high quality bait. Check out the Rage Tail website and look at all of the hawgs that are being caught with the Rage Tail baits.

I agree 100% with the above quote.  I am a  'FRUGAL FISHERMAN' and do not buy many expensive baits but as a tournament fisherman I am there for the money and my 'GO-TO' plastic is RAGE TAIL.  I am glad many of my competitors think the Rage Tail line is too expensive.

fishing user avatarJCrzy4Bass reply :

Game on! New PB bass caught this weekend on Rage Tail Lobster with Stanley swim jig, 5lbs even. Yea, these work quite nicely :o

The shad is the ONLY topwater bait of it's kind and man will it call bass out of vegetation, brush, stickups, you name it. Find me another topwater plastic that displaces water like these... I fish the Potomac River and it's tributaries and creeks pretty often and this bait is awesome in these areas. Find you some hydrilla and or other aquatic vegetation and you will never want to fish another bait once you see those blowups!

The craw and lobster make PERFECT jig trailers and the size and bulk calls out the big mamas. I have been using them exclusively with my Boo Yah boo jis and stanley swim jigs this year and have multiplied my catch rate of largemouths on jigs by at least 3 or 4 X as oppossed to when I was using Yum Chunks and Uncle Josh's pork trailers. They make a difference. And if you think the action is similar to other plastics on the market, I would recommend you check out the video on the Rage Tail site for both the first line of plastics and the new gen. You won't find better action on any other plastic.

JMHO.

fishing user avatarCWB reply :

I think the Rage Baits are great! Are they expensive? Yes. Do they catch fish? Yes. Not a lizard out there with better action. Look close at the appendages, there is a ridge running along the top and bottom of each causing a totally different swimming action than any other bait.

Check out You Tube and type in Rage Craw and you will see the difference. Pricey? Yes but with attention to detail and packaging, you don't get any deformed baits as with every other company.

You got it rigged upside-down.  Put the hook in the opposite way.

I agree with Triton21, it sounds like you are rigging your baits incorrectly.

Tommy, your post definitely does not make me mad or upset in any way....You have stated your opinion as accurately as possible but it did in fact tell me that we at Strike King and Rage Tail have not done enough in the way of informing the general fishing public of the unique differences between Rage Tail Designs and any others in the market place. Many of the Pro's and busy tournament anglers know the differences that Rage Tail provides because they are always on the edge looking for the newest and latest hot products.

Although many craw, toad, worms, etc. from many manufacturers look basically like craws, toads, worms, etc., There is a distinct and unique difference in the area of design that provides the variety of actions received. I will only design products that I believe have a much different and much better associated action than others in the market place. With these unique designs, come the need for Patenting processes etc which also helps to designate those distinct differences.

Also at Rage Tail, we are trying to go the extra mile to insure that the shape of the baits are maintained thru the manufacturing and packaging processes and now the majority of all of the Rage Tail products are hand assembled, 1 bait at a time, in a numerical order, in hard shell plastic clams before they are placed inside the Bag. This process guarantees the best action possible from each individual bait within the package.

Many of these processes are extremely expensive, but we believe that to be the very best in the industry, we must constantly give our very best effort and in every area of our product development and product delivery systems. Good is not good enough anymore....It's either completely RIGHT or It's completely WRONG.....there is no in between.

So thank you for giving me this opportunity to share some of my thoughts and reasons to be in the soft plastics market and I hope that you find them honorable.....

fishing user avatarTommyBass reply :

Thanks for taking the time to post that Big O.  Nice to get a little deeper insight.  Im glad you do not take offense, I was not trying to be offensive, just stating a different point of view.  I realize the type of packaging is going to be higher in cost but is that necessary enough to warrant that increase in price?  Will not most soft plastics go back to their original molded shape after being placed in hot water and quickly cooled (if they are bent out of the package)?  I realize there is some difference in action between you baits and others obviously, but I was questioning whether that slight gain in action is enough to warrant the greater than 3x price per unit. Or look at it this way, even if you package 8 such as the competition, and 2 of 8 are duds, we the consumer would still be getting a better deal.  I was just stating that cheaper products with good action and not fancy packaging catch almost as many fish for me.  That is purely opinion and nothing more... what I think dosn't matter, its the individual that makes that choice.

I respect your patenting point of view, but patents are highly debatable and technical.  Technically you can almost manufactur an identical bait or color and simply claim that one minor difference you made in your patent / product changes everything.  And since its basically impossible to prove if it matters to the fish, most likely a patent would pass whether or not that difference mattered or not.  Otherwise we wouldn't have so many very similiar look alike products on the market today.

I am not dissing your product or work, as stated in my original post I believe full heartedly your products work.  I actually have not even had the chance to try many of them, but I have caught plenty of fish on the craws I did try.  The anaconda, lizard, and shad all look good but I have just not purchased them yet.  The shad and lizard are quite different from most you see on the market, the anaconda I don't feel is much different than say a 10 inch Culprit, but again... opinion.

One thing I will stand firm on as of my experiences for now is that the durability of your products seems lacking in the tail department.  This was obviously addressed by several others as well.  Not stating its a huge deal, there are many other baits (especially soft soft plastics) I like that are not durable. Sometimes durability is a sacrafice a bait makes for its fish catching ability.  It was what it was.. a statement.

Thanks for being kind enough to respond to your customers comments,

TommyBass

Here is an action video of the Anaconda and if you are familiar with the action of a power worm you should notice the difference in the two.

When you fishing Rage Tail soft plastics, you'll probably find your

own favorite, but most people really like the Shad. My

preference is the 10" Anaconda, but after watching Big-O killin'

'em with the Lobster, that may become my next "favorite".

Nope, the two are different.

Just look at the legs.  The zooms are flat and the rage tails aren't.

That's also the difference between the chunks.  The "ends" of the rage tail baits are wider and will catch/displace more water.

When they reduce their prices again in the next couple of weeeks I may buy all of the packs that are left on the shelves.
