What's the scent you guys have had the best luck with. Spray ,gel, dips. Any luck with Gulp ? Thanks.
Mega Strike, a bait doesnt leave my boat without it.
Gulp? No, not much, to be honest.
MegaStrike, JJ's Magic are my two favorites.
Others I have or still use(d) are YUM F2 crawfish spray, Baitmate classic bass scent (Walmart, I think).
I picked up a tube of Megastrike at DSG over the weekend from the positive posts on this site and can't wait to give it a try soon. With that said I used YUM and Bang and had Ok results with them but giving MegaStrike the primary spot this year to see how it does.
MegaStrike and Spike-It are what I use... I do want to get my hands on some JJ's, just wish I could find some locally.
I used Smelly Jelly exclusively with no major success. I know I didn't catch fish because of it. Looking towards JJ's and MegaStrike in 2013 as soon as the ice is gone. All this great BassResource feedback can't be wrong.
Now I will make this very easy,= get a tube of Megastrike and some JJ's Magic and that is all you will ever need!!!!!

Which one is the question. As in which scent.

I like to use the Megastrike when my bait is going through heavy or just weeds.Megastrike is a cream base so it helps lub the bait and it can slid into the weeds better and I use it for the sent also. The JJ's is a power garlic sent and a good dipping sent/dye to dip my craws, worms, swimbaits to give the end of the bait some color that is different than the color of the bait.On some days it can be the factor of catching or not!
I've used all the scents mentioned on the forums, but three years ago I tried CB Hawg Sauce and I haven't looked back. CB sauce in craw flavor...bass love it!
JJ's has been proven on this board and I have proven it to myself so I can honestly say it does work. I won't say that it will attract fish as I can't say that for sure, but I can say that the bass will hold my jig, tube etc much longer with harder bites. I don't get that bump bump bump, I get that bam! and they hold.
I am slowly proving myself to mega strike. The videos are hard to pick apart and have got me excited. I've only used it twice, so I can't say it's the end all attractants, but I am impressed so far.
I use both JJs and megastrike. I tend to use JJs more but that's the chartruese to add color to the bait but I do use clear as well. They are different scents, megastrike has a shad type smell, they have also offered crawfish at dicks, where as JJs is garlic so there's something to be gained with both. I too have used megastrike more when I need a little lube for heavy grass and cover.
I have used Smelly Jelly for years and I know it worked great for me on the West Coast....now we'll see if they like it in Tennessee. So far so good.
Powerteam HogTonic
Spike It
Megastrike Original
Yum F2 Shad
Megastrike goes on my jigs and swimbaits.
JJ's goes on my other soft plastics.
Both are tremendous products backed by great people.
I use the Fish sticks in both shad and crawfish. Put the fish sticks shad on all your hard baits smells just like a shad. It stays on there for a long time to.
I, after many years, just decided I would simplify things and the only thing I fish with now Is JJ'S magic.
There are several reasons I stuck with JJ'S but the main being the confidence I have with that on the bait.
I have used both JJ's and Megastrike before joining BR. Nothing I have learned since has convinced me to try anything else. I often dip the tail of a Megastrike covered plastic in JJ's to get the highlight or contrast that I want. I feel the dye attracts bites and the Megastrike makes them hold on longer.

I picked up a 3rd contender to try this year, Pro-Cure Trophy Bass scent. It's basically grinded/blended up bass goodies like shad, craws, and night crawlers and made into a past similar to megastrike. and boy is it potent!
Can't wait to put these to the test!
Sounds like chum or better yet a crabby patty!
Keep in mind that bass are sight feeders and smell does not have a thing to do with thier hunt for prey. Sound will be more important than smell. So always make sure that you are using a bait they can see considering the conditions you are fishing. I think the biggest advantage ot scents is the fact they may make a bass hold a bait in it's mouth longer because it taste good. I think that is very important when using soft baits and so I use them at times just because of that.

Totally Agree!
I make my own... Anise and baby oil-They seem to hold on like it was thier last meal!

I use Kick'n Bass in garlic and have had good success.
On this site the guys and gals use MegaStrike and JJs Magic. Both give the users confidence and as stated previously, nothing leaves the boat or bank without some scent on it.
I also have been using BANG! for fishing ponds and fun fishing as MegaStrike and JJs are too "dear" to waste on pond bass.
There are also hot discussions on scents and if it is more of a confidence builder than a fish attractant. The center of this argument is Dr. Keith Jones, Berkley's (Pure Fishing) lead scientist in their research department who penned the book: Knowing Bass - The Scientific Apporach to Catching More Fish (First Lyons Press 2005).
In Chapter 3, Chemoreception, Dr. Jones discusses the bass' sense of taste and how the bass' chemoreception system works.
Dr. Jones' study showed that by adding scent to crankbaits there were more strikes and a longer bait retention.
His study also stated that scented plastics are retained by a bass in its mouth between 11 seconds to more than 20 seconds (37% of strikes) while unscented plastics had a maximum hold time (37% of strikes) less than one second. The retention time interval chart is interesting to view.
What is interesting is Dr. Jones' all time best bass scent: Ground up Nightcrawlers in a Water Base. I plan to use this concoction this summer on my plastics. (Sounds like a receipe from Southern Living magazine or something the Food Channel would feature.)
Go into your kitchen and ask your mother or wife for the kitchen blender and then put some water in the blender with about twelve Nightcrawlers. Blend until you get a nice paste.Scrape out with your mom's or wife's favorite spatchler. Put the plastics of your choice in a zip lock bag with the Nightcrawler blend and go fishing.
NOTE: Get ready for a lot of hollering and screaming if your wife or mother finds out that you used the kitchen blender and her spatchler. You may want to purchase your own blender and spatchler to do this. I don't understand why they would be upset but you never can understand a woman.
Try the blend and let us know how you do with your plastics and put some MegaStrike or JJs on all baits, hard and soft, and let us know if that works as well.
Which stores sell jj's? Since we are on the subject. I haven't been able to find it except online.
I've used Kick'n Bass for years in both the anise and garlic scent. It has a pure fish oil base, a powerful scent, and is made by a perfume chemist. Besides making the fish hold on much longer, the fish oil base really lubricates the bait which has 2 advantages. First, the bait will usually slide up the hook onto the line without damage when you set the hook. Saves those expensive Senkos! Also, the bait will slide through grass and other obstacles like greased lightning. The only thing I won't use it on is a jig with a real rubber skirt because it will melt rubber (but not plastic baits or silicone skirts).
I've used Gulp with good success - the 3" minnows work great on dropshots. And it does put scent into the water - leave a piece of Gulp resting on the bottom too long, and suddenly you'll learn that you're catfishing instead of bass fishing. Gulp is good stuff and fish like to eat it. Unfortunately, it is not as flexible and doesn't have the action of plastic baits.
Baitmate & 1/2 oz pure anise oil
