I recently stumbled upon a new local pond that Iv fished three times as of yet. Decent place. The whole pond has a bed of weeds that grow from the bank out about three to four feet or so. I had a lot of success the first morning I fished there running a buzzbait parralel to the weeds. Got slammed a few times. Second time zero fish using a hollow body frog and buzzbait. Went for the third time Friday afternoon and caught a single 2 pound fish throwing a spinnerbait onto the weeds and dragging it until falling off the edge.
So.. My question is; what are your favorite baits for fishing this condition?
Weightless worm . I use a heavy flipping hook for added casting weight .
I'll throw a havoc pit boss practically anywhere if it's t-rigged with a small bullet weight, especially the stuff you're describing. Skin hook it an go!
baby brush hog
After I posted this, I thought about a senko. Don't know why it took me this long. All the responses are great answers too. I'll be going back soon. I'll have a few things to try now!!
Zoom Ultravibre Speed Craw fished like a buzzbait!
Swim Jig...
Hollow belly swimbait

What kind of flipping hook do you use?
Weightless Super Fluke.
Fished at a lake Saturday that had weedbeds starting to take over some coves and the only thing that worked in those weeds was a texas rigged, weightless, laminated, black and blue Senko.
3:16 7" Mission fish.

Where are you in NC?
Lipless crank, buzzbait, topwater walker.
Depends.Every lure in the boat is effective at times on a weed "edge". It don't matter if that edge is in 2, 5, 8, 11 or 15 feet of water.
In my home lake, we get a deep edge of milfoil in the summer at 10-12' fow, a "transition" edge in 5-6' fow where the milfoil turns to eel grass, and an inside edge in 1-2' FOW between the eel grass and the bank. Plus many "false" edges where docks, anti- weed mats, under water objects, etc... prevent weed growth.
I fish all these edges with the same style of baits, and adjust presentation methods, fall rate, etc... as I get a "feel" for what's going on that day. The baits that are my bread and butter on all of those edges, year round, are a texas rigged beaver style creature bait (or the same creature bait as a trailer on a jig if the water is a little stained) and 5" stick bait on multiple riggings, with weighted wacky getting the nod most of the time. I also crank, swim jig, c-rig, etc... but day in day out, the t-rigged creature, and weighted 5" wacky rigged stick are my go to stuff.
Spinnerbait

The lake I fished was Shearon Harris in New Hill, NC. It is close to Raleigh, Apex, Cary.

Gotcha. I live close to Charlotte. I saw you were from NC, just wondering how close!

Weightless lizard, cast it onto the weeds, swim it across the top, then let it sink once it's off the edge of the weeds

Don't know why I never thought of this one either. Good idea.
Ribbon tail worm swimmed, or a keitech 4.8 FAT
Same here also a Wieghtless fluke or a senko.QuoteSwim Jig...
Jerkbait. Square bill. Series 3. T rigged sk anaconda. Swim jig. Polarized glasses are a must so you can see that edge and run along it. Of course if it is no wind bluebird I would go with a more subtle approach.
Jig, pretty much any good creature or flippin' bait, senkos, flukes, ect.

It works really well in lily pads, especially in gaps between groups of pads.

Just whatever I have on hand . I'm not brand picky. I bought several packs of Eagle claws one year and am still using them.
Bank fishing or boat fishing. If you are bank fishing, but best piece of gear you could get to assist in this situation would be a pair of hip boots or waders, to allow you to get off the bank a little bit and make it easier to parallel the weed edge. If you're boat fishing, every one else's suggestions will work sooner or later.
Me - for deep weed lines - in the 10 to 15 foot range - my best bait the past year and a half has been a home made, half ounce jika rig.
I would punch that grass. Big weight and a creature
My favorites are a jig, shallow running crank, fluke, senko, spinnerbait, or a chatterbait. If the weeds are really thick I will use a frog.
Bomber Long A Floater, LIpless Crankbait, Weedless spoon, actually spinnerbaits, cranks, everything works on the edge, If only all the fish stayed on the edge fishing would be so much easier....
Bladed jig if they're shallow. Jig or T rigged beaver or brush hog if they're deeper.
