What's Your Favorite Big Worm And How Do You Rig It? 2024

fishing user avatarCrankinstein reply :

What's your favorite big worm and how do you rig it? What hook and weight do you use? Looking for ideas for pulling up some hawgs this summer dragging 10 inch worms on C rig or T rigs.

fishing user avatarWRB reply :

The best time to fish giant worms 10" + is pre-post spawn and summer nights.

Berkeley a Havoc 10" worm is new and becoming very popular, the original 10" Power worm is still king of the hill in sakes.

Fish a 10" worm like you fish a 7" worm, 316-1/4 oz sliding bulletvweight Texas rigged.

If you want to get get serious then look at hand pours like Uptom's Customs 9" & 13" dragon tails or 16" straight tail. I fish these using 4/0 and 5/0 straight shank Gamastsu #484 or Owner #5103 hooks, 1/4 oz painted bullet weight with a glass bead ( brass& glass ).

fishing user avatarOzark_Basser reply :

Netbait cmac with a 4/0 hook and a 1/4-3/8 oz bullet weight. Just drag it along the bottom.

fishing user avatarC0lt reply :

my favorite is the zoom old monster. There are 3 ways I rig it. I will always throw it either weightless, t rigged on a 3/16 ounce tungsten weight pegged with a bobber stop, or on a 3/8 ounce swinging football head jig.

I do however want to start experimenting with the 10 inch power worm, as well as the culprit 10 inch worm.

btw I throw all my big worms on either a 4/0 or 5/0 hook, I like the trokar extra wide gaps.

fishing user avatarBluebasser86 reply :

Netbait C-Mac, Zoom Ol' Monster, Berkley Powerworm, Rage Andaconda. I T rig them or fish them on a swinging football head.

fishing user avatariceintheveins reply :

I like the Rage Anaconda and Recon Worms best, but I also like Old Monsters, Berkley 10" Power Worms, and the 10" Lake Fork Worm. Most 10" worms need at least a 5/0 EWG hook or even a 7/0. I generally use a 1/4 ounce weight with them unless I'm Carolina Rigging them or trying to get through thick vegetation.

fishing user avatarriverbasser13 reply :

The Zoom Ol monster and gambler 13" ribbontail. I try to use the lightest weight that I can usually no heavier than 1/4 and either hop it or drag it along the bottom. Caught my first big worm fish of the season on Monday so I guess summer is officially here!

X2. Although I've never tried the Rage Anaconda, but have had great luck on the Rage Recon Worm.

fishing user avatarNice_Bass reply :

10'' powerworm year round day and night.  usually on a 3/16 or 1/4 tungsten.

fishing user avatarB-Dozer reply :

Mann's Jelly worms work well for me

fishing user avatarMaster Bait'r reply :

I like an Uptons Dragontail on a swinging jighead of some kind- either with an offset shank or an EWG depending on cover.

fishing user avatarMrPeanut reply :

I haven't gotten a chance to use them yet, but I picked up a couple packs of the tomahawk by Missile baits, I'm pretty excited about them

fishing user avatarTurtle135 reply :

Culprit Fat Max and Culprit Original 10" on a Confidence Baits Draggin' Head. I like that direct contact to the presentation and rigged this way I do not accumulate line twist over the course of a day.

Killin' 'em at Pickwick on ledges (+/- 20') fishing the 10" Rage Tail Thumper (Blue Fleck),

T-rigged with 1/2 oz tungsten weight. Cast upstream and crawl the worm, hopping isn't

working.

fishing user avatarCatch and Grease reply :

I like the power worm and zoom ole' monster

fishing user avatarNJSalt reply :

STOP USING THEM. Upton's Customs don't work at all.

Without a hook.....

fishing user avatarbuzzed bait reply :

9" Netbait T Mac, texas rigged

fishing user avatarbassinyea reply :

Zoom Ol Monster, Missile Tomahawk, and Berkley Power worms for curly tails.  Manns Jelly Worms for straight tail big worms.  I always fish them on a swinghead.

fishing user avatarJrob78 reply :

I like the Uptons a lot.  Before i discovered those it was the usual suspects, 10" Ole Monster, 10" Rage Anaconda, 10" Rage Thumper, 10" Power worm and Zoom Magnum Trickworm.  I fish them on a jighead the most but will also t-rig and c-rig big worms.

fishing user avatarJar11591 reply :

Culprit 10" on a 4/0 EWG Gamakatsu with a red glass bead and bullet weight on 40 lb braid.

fishing user avatarJaderose reply :

Culprit Fat Max on a VMC Drop Dead hook

fishing user avatarHeron reply :

I am partial to...

- 9" Fat Max - T-rig w 5/0 offset hook, or a VMC Rugby head, or cut 2.5 inches off the body, and use it as a jig trailer.

- 12" Culprit originals (but I hate their packaging) - T-rig w 5/0 offset hook

- 10.5" Xcite Maximus worm - T-rig w 5/0 offset hook, or 3/8oz Omega football shakyhead

- 10" Uptons UC worm - same

fishing user avatarGinosocalbass reply :

10" power worm and zoom on monster are king. The power bait with that stinky **** on it makes a huge difference on a big soft plastic.

fishing user avatarpapajoe222 reply :

Ole Monster and Culprit for 10 in. threaded on a 3/0 straight shank worm hook. I thread it about 3in. down from the head, exit on an angle and skin hook it. Weight depends on the depth I'm fishing and wind conditions. I started adding a swivel a short distance up the line as it will roll on you if you attempt to work it fast.

fishing user avatargobig reply :

There are a few that a I throw. I like the 7in senkos texas rigged. Zoom O'l monster rigged just like turtle showed with a keel weighted hook and the yamamoto cut tail nail weighted.

fishing user avatarHanover_Yakker reply :

PowerTeam Lures 10" Ribbon Hinge Worm texas rigged with a 3/16 tungsten worm weight and a 7/0 superline hook paired with 65lb braid.  The tail action on the lure is so phenomenal that it literally requires no retrieve at all.  It is neutrally buoyant, so when it hits bottom, it will coil up and uncoil on it's own.  A slow drag every 30 seconds or so it all you need.  I'll toss it into the thick of a lily pad field or submerged timber and have a blast!

fishing user avatardoyle8218 reply :  Berkley Havoc Federale Worm or Strike King Rage Tail Anaconda,

T-rig or swing head.

fishing user avatarscaleface reply :

As much as I love worms , caught a  megaillion fish with them , I rarely used big worms. The ones I used the most were made by Fliptail . Big old lime green ones .
