Whats Your Favorite Post Spawn Lure? 2025

fishing user avatarCalebJ reply :

Just wanting to know what y'all say about what your favorite post spawn lure is in this time of year when bass are hard to read?

fishing user avatarBuzzbaitBite28 reply :

Gotta go with the buzzbait in the early morning. When it gets a little warmer in the afternoon, gotta pick up the Carolina rig. Late in the evening, roll on with buzzbait again.

fishing user avatarquanjig reply :

Scrounger, period.

fishing user avatarfrogflogger reply :

frog or spook

fishing user avatarA-Jay reply :

As a rule (and this is a Very General rule) I fish with more Horizontal moving baits pre-spawn and  a lot of Vertical moving baits post spawn.   Much of it has to do with where the fish are during these times.

So for me, a jig & craw sees quite a bit of post spawn action.

Then again, I'm usually pulling a jig out of a basses face all season long.

fishing user avatarww2farmer reply :

Frogs, whacky rigged stick baits and/or finesse worms, and swim jigs.

fishing user avatareinscodek reply :

Rest of the year I am smoking them myself but this time of year, I put them cigars on the water and let the bass get smoked!

fishing user avatarriverat reply :

During post spawn I usually rely on the following

Buzzbait

Topwater Lures

  • Smithwick Rogue or Cordell Redfin (Floating model in Gold with Orange Belly)
  • Smithwick Devil's Horse
  • PopR
  • Hub's Chub (H.C. Baits)
  • Spro Frog

Zoom Trick Worm (T-rigged)

Baby Brush Hog (T-Rigged)

fishing user avatarPreytorien reply :

Mostly a wacky rigged stick worm.

Sometimes I'll put on a topwater - buzzbait or frog and get a couple bites.

fishing user avatarSPEEDBEAD. reply :

This may come as a shock.....swimbait.

fishing user avatarDTack reply :

Spook, Frog, Wakebait, squarebill crank, chatterbait, senko.

fishing user avatarMr Swim Jig reply :

Swim jigs...but I will throw a swim jig anytime anywhere.

fishing user avatarDjman72 reply :

stick baits, wacky rigged anything, cranks, and surprisingly enough i get a lot of action of small jerkbaits fished real slow.

The lethargic fish must like that slow erratic action i guess.

When all else fails and the weather is somewhat warm i'll tie on a spook or pop-r and hit the shallows.

fishing user avatarFishChaser1 reply :

Wacky rigged worms and rat l traps

fishing user avatarsmallieking reply :

I go for the big ones out deep with either heavy jig or Carolina rig

fishing user avatarRoLo reply :

I throw a wide variety of lures during the post-spawn, but you asked for the 'favorite'.

I'm sure the answer can vary regionally, so my response addresses central Florida. For the past 15 years,

our most effective post-spawn lure has been the "Swim Minnow" (aka: soft swimbait & paddletail minnow).

I've found that during the post-spawn, 'weedless', 'subsurface' & 'minnow-shaped' are 3 important lure properties.

I doubt there's a soft swim minnow I haven't tried, but my first crush was on the Berkley 6" Hollow-Belly Swimbait

The 6" Hollow-Belly is no longer available, but is still available in 5". Other swim minnows we've found very effective

are the Berkley Split-Belly, Basstrix Paddletail, Lake Fork Magic Shad & Deps Deathadder Shad (sadly discontinued).

My main squeeze today and the mack daddy of Florida's post-spawn period has been the Gambler Big EZ (forty niner).

Jig, creature, senko, spinnerbait, popper, spook, buzzbait, frog, crankbait, fluke.

fishing user avatarbigbill reply :

The rebel BIG CLAW in chartreuse.

fishing user avatardday07 reply :

Buzzbait early...then mainly craw baits..menace,lobster and ika's

fishing user avatarBassguytom reply :

Love the spook early in the morning then senkos and swimbaits.

fishing user avatar2833-34497 reply :

I'd have to say the River2Sea 200 & 178 S-Wavers at least they have been the hot one for me lately! Pictured is a 6.0 & 6.81 lb which took the 200 S-Waver and both at ~23" in length! One had spawned and one hadn't and both hit within a 15 min time span!!

fishing user avatarPersicoTrotaVA reply :

I'd have to go with a KVD swim'n caffeine shad or swim'n shiner on a 4/0 or 5/0 weightless Owner twist lock hook.  Cast it and let it sink for about 4 to 5 seconds and then i start bouncing it back to the boat.  The fish are inhaling so far coming outta the spawn.  The hooks have been in the back of the mouth on almost every fish I have caught in the last 3 days.

fishing user avatarbclark7b reply :

T-rigged worm, jigs, frogs, and punching mats.

fishing user avatarCJV reply :

Wacky 5" senko and as already stated buzzbait

fishing user avatarzewski@live.com reply :

It really depends if you target the males or females, right after the spawn the males will stay on the bed to guard the fry and they will NOT bite expect if they feel the eggs are in danger, they will not bite a senko but they will bite a crankbait or a spinnerbait as these ressemble fish that would like to feed on those eggs or fry. The female will be in the nearest cover next to the bed to take some rest, pitchin and flipping might be the best way to get them to bite as they won't chase anything, they might take an easy meal!

But as KVD says in the first few pages of his book, nothing is worth your own experience, depending on where, when and how your fishing everything advice any pros can give might not work!

fishing user avatarJ BASS reply :

Soft jerk or a lizard

fishing user avatarFish Murderer 71 reply :

This!

fishing user avatarHappybeerbuzz reply :

Bait monkey got me last year when I was just stopping for hooks by throwing an Ima Little Stick in Sexy Minnow into my shopping basket.  I just had a lot of luck with it last year and will throw that as soon as the water warms up a tad more.

fishing user avatarMIbassyaker reply :

I struggle with post-spawn for some reason. ....or, maybe it's not really a "struggle", so much as just does not seem as productive as in the pre-spawn or the following "summer peak".

What I find most successful are (1) soft jerkbaits like a fluke, fished weightless, and (2) wacky worms, and (3) poppers, propbaits and floating minnows, twitched, popped, ripped on top with pauses.

fishing user avatarStalking bass reply :

Jig and craw. Buzzbait and a hollow body frog

fishing user avatarburrows reply :

Fluke
