I've used the sammy 115 in MS american shad with GREAT results over the last 3 years . I was wondering if anyone could reccomend anything comprable? No real reason other than I'm a topwater junkie and just wanna change it up. I have never heard much about the excalibur jimmy, thoughts?
Thanks
Josh
hey you should try those H20 express lures. I heard that they are getting great results. They're supposedly made from the same company that makes lucky craft lures. You should check them out.
I've had luck with the spro dawg; I'm not sure how it compares to the sammy but it walks easily and gets some explosive strikes
X2 on the H2O sammy type. I have 3 of them and they all perform like a dream. Walk very easy, good paint,VMC hooks. If you have an Academy near buy I would suggest buying a lot of the H2O cranks and hardbaits.
The Zara Spook is "classic".

bass pro xps topwater it is sweet
Gunfish for choppy water.

The Super spook jr is one of my favorites. Especially with a feathered treble.
Super Spook Jr.
Guys I agree cant beat a spook! The magnum/saltwater version will always be in my playbook.
The H20 baits sound great, but unfortunetly I dont live near an academy, and I dont see them on their website.
After looking around online I'm looking at the following:
Megabass Dog X -very realistic looking. But megabass has kind of been a disapointment to me in the past
Jackal Bowstick
LC gunfish
Lobina rico suave- the regular rico is highly regarded, but I've never heard any feedback on this bait.
Anyone have any insight on these or others?
Spook hands down, specifically the "Original" Zara Spook, Super Spook, Super Spook Jr., and the Zara Puppy....just to name a few.
Another vote for the Zara Spook.

The Gunfish is a great bait, it doesn't glide forward as far as other walkers...nice side-to-side action. The pike around here prefer them over the Sammy.
I'm drooling over the Rico Suave too.
If I'm not mistaken, I've heard good things about the RI Vixen as well.
The One Knocker Spook is on my list, as well as the new Sammy. I believe it's labeled as 105. There is a wooden Sammy out there too.
The Giant Dog-X has a ton of fans as well.
People are mentioning spooks which is fine and they are some of my favorite baits of all but it is a different animal than a bait like a Sammy.
A great bait that is similar is the BPS slim dog best bang for the buck except it only comes in a comparable 100 size not 115. I also like the Cultiva zip n ziggy and the reaction innovation vixen which has a very unique sound.

Boy don't you know it! I know what the fish will do with the Ricos and if that bait is of similar quality then lookout. 8-)
I would try a Matzuo Huntin' Dog if i were you. You can find them at Dicks's and they are very inexpensive(3-4 dollars) and they come some in some good colors. I've had just as much luck with a Huntin dog as I have a Sammy.. and they look a lot alike too
thanks jimmy! good price on em too

No problem!
I've got a bunch of Matzuo Huntin Dogs. They are inexpensive, with nice finishes, good size (3-1/2") for northern bass I fish, BUT... be forewarned, they vary in quality. Some sit with the tail straight down. So...I've drilled 'em, replaced the big bearing near the tail, and re-sealed them. They still cast well enough (on spinning tackle) but can be paused without looking silly.
For all the Huntin' Dawgs I have, and the work I have into them, a couple Sammy's would've saved me the headache.
no one has mentioned the Xcal Jimmy- that thing is sick!! Walks easier than the Sammy, but I change the hooks to Owners (don't like the ones on them)
Evergreen COMBAT PENCIL GIGANTES. Casts like a bullet and walks great!
Evergreen gigantes like suggest by t-rig or imakatsu trairao, very noise pencil bait but bigger than Sammy.
zara spook is the best you cant beat it. my dad has an original zara spook that he has had for fifteen years and it is still catching fish
Sorry to piggyback, but does anyone know where to purchase the wooden Sammy?

Sammies and Spooks are awesome, but I am shocked that after these many posts the rapala skitter walk hasn't received any love. ;D

Have you fished the wooden Sammy?
QuoteHave you fished the wooden Sammy?
No I haven't, but I'm sure it will catch fish.
The bowstick is a good bait. It has a side to side glide to it more than a walk. I can turn it to get the action just by turning the reel handle and changing speeds. Much easier on the wrist.

Me too. 8-)
I've been itching to buy one for awhile. It's winter here so I have plenty of time to try to find a deal on one.
R.I. Vixen (both sizes). The single tungsten knocker in the head makes a distinct sound and in my case has helped catch more fish.
Wow! Nice fish Sinjin! 8-)
