New wacky rig pliers. 2024

fishing user avatarKDW96 reply :

Well i had a gift card to TW.  So i ordered these pliers and a bag of silicon sleeves. I havent had a chance to tryem out yet because of the lingering cold icey weather. Im just looking for any feed back, thoughts etc, on them. Thank you for looking.

fishing user avatarBluebasser86 reply :

Never heard of them, but takes me back to days working on my grandparents farm with the cattle (you'll either get that or you won't). I like the concept better than the stupid wacky tools that the worm has to be a certain size for it to work correctly.

fishing user avatarChrisD46 reply :

Shin Fukae (Bass Master  Elite Pro) has a video out about the new pliers and elastic band system for wacky rigging stick baits ... It's a neat deal and a better system than O-rings but more expensive and harder to find .

Looks like a gynecologist's speculum????

fishing user avatarKDW96 reply :

Yes they are hard to come by. They also sell 4 thru 8 mm tubes, but i think i can find the tubing alot cheaper buy the foot :) . The pliers or whatever you decide to call them, open squeezing the handle. I think they are a definatly worth a try, over the orings. But at 23.00 just for the pliers, a guy could buy alot of orings. Im going to use them exclusively this year to givem a fair chance, and will be sharing my thoughts then. Now to find the silicon tubing, as i wont pay 3.59 for lil pieces of tubing :)

KDW96 : Also try to give advice (later) on what mm size works best with 4" , 5" Senkos and then lastly finesse worms which would be at least two and possible three different size elastic bands ?

fishing user avatardesmobob reply :

I will consider buying the pliers and continue using inexpensive O-rings.  I hate messing with the tube-type wacky o-ring tools and pliers like those would be very convenient.

Bob

Some needs to come up with a ned rig tuning fork.

I mean, if you're not harmonically balancing the bait with the jig, line, and rod, how can you expect t get bit?

fishing user avatarJunger reply :

Would reverse forceps work just like those? They are like $8 on Amazon.

fishing user avatarcamman reply :

Look for “nasal speculum” on eBay...basically the same pliers for under $10

fishing user avatarjtharris3 reply :

Looks like over kill to me.

fishing user avatarPreytorien reply :

Just buy the Savage Gear Armor Tube worm

Has some mesh infused in the plastic in the middle where you thread the hook

You reeeeaaally have to pull hard to get the hook out via way of the point

No tools required :)

Reminds me of when I was blazing the bank one day and stumbled upon a pair of very nice pair of forceps. I took them home and looked up the serial number and discovered they were a medical grade specialty tool for Gynecologists. I cringed little bit...

fishing user avatarTOXIC reply :

Have you ever unhooked a bass and then thrown your pliers in the lake?:o:P  As for the tubing, go to a pet store or the pet isle in wal-mart and see if you can find some aquarium tubing the same size or whatever size you need.

Or cut off a jig, and toss it in the lake.

I haven't yet tossed in a pair of pliers.  Nothing worse than carefully rigging up a brand new jig with one of your favorite trailers and then tossing it over the side before you tie it on.  Been there; done that.

Back to the OP... I ordered a <$6 nasal speculum (large size) and will report how it works for wacky O-ring use.  The O-ring tube tools are very effective but I always struggle to move a new O-ring up onto the tube, cursing along the way.  The speculum should work for elastic tubing as well.  Time will tell...

Tight lines,

Bob

Vid I made on how I do it.

fishing user avatarSam reply :

May I suggest using shrink tubing?

Go to your local hardware store and look for 3/8 inch Polyolefin Heat Shrink Tubing in the electrical section.

Take tubing home and cut one of the three sleeves into 1/4 inch sections.

Put the section of tubing on the worm where you want it.

Put one end of the worm on a table and hold the other end in your fingers so that the tubing is away from your fingers and table.

Then take a bar-b-q igniter and ignite the flame and heat the tubing by turning the worm a few times.

The tubing will shrink onto your plastic bait.

Place hook between tubing and skin of plastic.

You may have to reheat the tubing while fishing.

My best performance was 10 bass on one 1/4 inch tubing around a Senko.

Less expensive than other alternatives and it works.

Don't thank me. Thank Ike for this tip. :)  I have shared it with a few guys but think it is time to share it with everyone on the Forum.

Quite awhile ago I posted this technique for wacky rigging Senkos. Over almost 2 decades now and it's still viable, and in my opinion, easy to use, as well as cost effective:

I can't see any of the pictures, thanks Photobucket!

fishing user avatarBass_Fishing_Socal reply :

I like it KISS. Before I do all kind of stuffs shrink tube/plastic straw/rubber band/etc.. to not buy wacky rig o-ring with tool. I don't fish wacky rig enough so end up bought a tool plus 300 o-ring for like 10 bucks and that should last me a very long time

I will try to repost just the pictures later today. If I bring them in from my computer, they'll be fine. I also hate Photobucket!

I just use cheap tubing from Menards and it has worked well. Have had 1 Senko last like 12 trips.

No pliers needed.
