Never hit the water 2024

fishing user avatarjrhennecke reply :

We all seem to have baits that at one time or another we thought were the "it" bait.  You know the ones that you had to buy in 2 or 3 colors or sizes but for whatever reason just haven't made it out of the package.  My question is what was the last bait that caught you instead of a bass?

fishing user avatarBassFishingMachine reply :

Hmm, the Berkley Powerbait Sinking Minnow (Not Gulp!). This has to be the worst softbait I have ever bought. The thing is built with solid metal inside of it (or w/e the solid material is), and its as stiff as a tree branch. Don't know what I was thinking when I bought this thing... guess the pretty looks hooked me good  :-/.

Same! I bought it open it up and was not to impressed with it. I liked the smell of it though so I did not take it back ;)

fishing user avatarHesterIsGod reply :

Easy, berkely bladedancer. "It will replace every lure in your tacklebox."

Not quite :;)

fishing user avatarcootertom reply :

Academy's knockoff of the shadrap. Looks good but comes thru the water like you are dragging a stick. No movement at all. Purchased two of them. :-[

fishing user avatarguitarkid reply :

The booyah boogie bait.

Chatterbait used it 2x

HA HA x3 here! Same thing.Bought 3 packs in 3 different colors.Threw them about five minutes and havent left my "extras"bag since.Need to give them away to someone.

Hate to be a copycat but the other go to bait that I thought was going to be a hit was the blade dancer.I (stupidly) went out and got 4 different ones in a 3/8oz and 3 different ones in a 1/4oz and 1 pack of the tiny ones. The tiny ones are the only ones I catch fish on including crappie. The others are just adding weight to my box.

On the other hand though, when they came out with the one with the weed guard I found It to be a pretty darn good slop bait, around pads especially.

Banjo minnows.  I forgot all about them.

fishing user avatarRyan_Johnson reply :

I'll agree with the sinking minnow and the blade dancer, got bit by those as well.

For some reason, I always end up buying the french fry/ring fry/centipedes  and monster lizards.  I know both of these would work, but I never use them.   I also have a box full of rattle traps, and I've caught one fish in my life on one and it was foul hooked.  Again due to the lack of use.

Give that Boogie bait another try...it is the only 'chatterbait' style bait the has produced for me (I use the golden shiner color).  I would say the Rapala twitchin' rap is the bait that gets passed over routinely in leu off regular jerkbaits.

fishing user avatarfourbizz reply :

I consider myself to be pretty good at avoiding unproven baits when it comes to traditionally sized baits. I could fit every small bait I own into a large tackle bag if I wanted too. Now big baits on the other hand....

I am one of the worst with big baits, I'm getting better, but I buy swimbaits WAY TOO MUCH! I get burned on them waaaaaay too often too.

fishing user avatarLow_Budget_Hooker reply :

The snake lures.  Redline gave me a box on my first visit.

fishing user avatarCatt reply :

Senko or senko type baits; biggest waste of money I ever spent  ;)

fishing user avatarMALTESE FALCON reply :

Another vote for the Blade Dancer.

WHAT?  Man i am a senko s1ut! Ask Nuclearpenguin what i fished at dripping springs last year for all 4 days, and yes i caught a ton of fish.

The biggest waste of money that i have spent on bait has to be these topwater dancer type bait that i bought at bps.  Its supposed to be a topwater and the worm or w/e u put on behind has a swim action to it.... needless to say they don't work.

Funny thing about the banjo minnows, i saw them the other day at gander mountain.  I stopped and laughed

Thats funny!!  I did the same thing with the french fries and lizards.  I thought to myself "Those would be great on a Crig" and then I never rig anything but a trick worm or fluke.

Oh well, guess that reminds me to pull them out again and give them a whirl.

Spyro bronze eye jr frog,I got riverside plastics coming out my ears and not one has been in the water yet(grubs, lizards and craws).

I have never worn out a jig. Mine have a very short life expectancy.

I have really high confidence in both the magnum lizard and the french fry both by Zoom in watermelon candy.  I carolina rig a ton and these are the first things that get put on the hook along with the sweet beaver.

My worthless bait would be BPS shallow runner crank. The whole thing was made on the cheap. I bought 2. I havent bought any BPS brand since.

fishing user avatarjjbassjj reply :

AHHH yall had to bring this up lol. i have too many to even name

I'd have to agree on the sinking minnow. I bouht the gulp ones and they just never produced.

this storm kickin slabswimbait ...looks just like a bluegill but comes through the water like a stick

That is surprising to me.  I love that old bait, I stocked up on them when the store near me went under.  I have about a dozen of them on a shelf.  I have enough to last me a few years, at least.

You fish more than i do.. ;D I'm lucky to get out on the weekend once bass season opens and only out there for 4-8 hours.Sometimes less.

However give me some berkley sabertails and i can almost go through a whole pack in a day.

No doubt.  Anyone looking to get rid of their blade dancers can send them to me.  Those things clean house at my father in law's pond.

I remember having to have the Vampire spinner bait.
