What are the lures you would not worry about using a snap with? I'm thinking some topwaters, chatterbaits, spinnerbaits. What else?
I use them for the ones you mentioned as well as crankbaits and jerkbaits and occasionally swimjigs too.
cranks, jerkbaits, even tubes with small snaps with proper strength. most everything . NOT snap swivels, NOT big heavy snaps.
The only one that comes to mind as I type this are my Luhr Jensen Speed Traps because they come with them stock, right outta the package. Otherwise, tie directly to the lure or split ring. I do like to use a loop knot for jerk baits as I believe it imparts a little bit more action to the lure without adding and additional weight...

Being that they’re tuned with a split ring it kinda evens out with the snap replacing the ring
I used to hate the idea of extra hardware, but if a fish is dumb enough to hit a Tokyo Rig, I've probably been overthinking it.
Everything except soft plastics. I bank fish and cove a lot of ground on foot (miles) so I usually bring just one rod and my backpack tackle bag. That and my old man eyes make it easier to use snaps. My choice is the VMC Touch-Lok Snaps.
On a side note, my old man eyes are "going away". New bifocals are on the way and my vision is corrected to 20-15. Well, with both eyes open and dominated by my right eye. My left eye sucks on its own. But it sure will be nice to be able to read the fine print again.
I use the Norman Speed Clips on all my squarebills, lipless, jerkbaits, swim jigs, and bladed swimjigs. I started using them mainly in my kayak when I’d have a couple rods and eventually use all the time now.

That would depend on your point of reference @Bassjam2000, these pictures were my point of reference. Left to right Speed Traps made in the USA, Mexico, and China. I haven’t bought any Traps in awhile so it’s appreciated to know of the subtle change.
Rat L Trap
Topwater
Squarebill
In-line spinners
spoons, inline spinners, blade baits.
I use snaps with everything except bottom contact baits, plastics, and certain topwater baits.
Everything but jerkbait, most spinnerbait and buzzbait.
I don't like snaps. They are more trouble than they are worth. I find its easier to tie a good knot than it is to manipulate a tiny snap. I throw in line spinners from time to time and I've installed an appropriate sized ball bearing snap swivel on these because I think it is easier to deal with the snap swivel installation at home, with proper lighting at my project table than it is to deal with line twist on the water.
Should I decide to change spinners, I cut the line and tie on a different one (with the ball bearing snap swivel already installed).
I use Mustad Ultrapoint Ball Bearing Swivel with Fastach Clip and I will remove the spilt ring on my crank baits.
Never used snaps and never will. I prefer to just cut off and tie, that's just me.
Was going to say “never” also, but then thought about it more and realized I do use snaps most times with Spooks and blade baits...but other than those two baits, never... ????
Never use them. I put split rings on spoons and blade baits
This year I started using snaps for topwater frogs for two reasons:
1) Ease of swapping. I use different frogs for open water, pads, and mats/duckweed and will often encounter all three along a give section of bank.
2)Ease of tip-walking. I have yet to find a “perfect” frog rod but I have some that are very close, but lack a tip that lets me walk with ease. But with a snap on most any rod can walk most any frog in most any position.
I have been using Decoy 70lb Egg Snaps and have been very happy with them. Easy to open but never open on their own, don’t pick up weeds, and are far stronger then the 40lb braid that I use. I did some yard-testing and the line broke before the snap deformed every time.
I will use snaps on basically everything other than hooks. Still, i've done that in a pinch.
Bank angling, don't really want to carry more that 2 rods at a time, 3 max.
Crankbaits, Rat-L-Traps I use #0 size. There cheap and easy. I like the ease of changing baits between crankbaits quickly. Most of our water is I fish is also usually stained/dirty so the fish don't usually care.
I throw one on my crankbaits only when I'm trying to figure out what color I want so I can switch quickly, but I do think most crankbaits have better action without a snap.
Baits I always use snaps with though are big Swimbaits, blade baits, and chatterbaits
Spinnerbaits, cranks (after removing split ring) (unless line tie is sunk into lip) jerks , rattle, bladebaits, bladed jigs, scroungers, buzzbaits. All jigs, soft plastics, and topwaters I tie direct. Works for me...

this is what I use also.
Treble lures. I like to use snaps on my medium combos because they're almost always for trebles. A snap makes the action of most topwaters better. Use a good quality safety pin type snap. I see some people like the speed clip. I lost a really nice bass on one once and haven't used them since.
Dont use the snap swivel with spinnerbaits if the wire isn’t closed if you understand what im saying. I dont use snap swivels because it might distract the fish or have it not bite for some reason. It takes a min to tie a polomar
Any hard bait that comes with a split ring usually gets a Duo-Loc snap. I remove the split ring. I keep a pretty big supply of #2 and #3 snaps on hand, and many of my baits already have on on them. Some baits, like spoons, I add swivel to the split ring you tie to. I usually tie direct to the swivel, but if I'm switching baits frequently, I'll use a snap. I've never had an issue, and I seem to catch them, so I don't think the fish care. I've only ever notice a snap open once, and I'm pretty sure I didn't clasp it correctly. I never use snap swivels.

I agree with what you're saying regarding spinnerbaits with the open wire. But to be clear, he's referring to just snaps, not snap swivels.
All crankbaits, some topwaters, and chatterbaits. If you don't use them out of worry that the fish will notice them, what do you think about treble hooks that are 4x the size of the snap?

The only reason I don't use them on non treble hook baits is that I fish a lot of vegetation and the snap is just another thing to snag the slop...lol

No doubt - I never use them for anything that would be on bottom, or on a jig head of any kind, for that reason.

Im not worried about fish seeing them, its just one more thing i dont want to buy. Im good at tying knots and biting through line
I use Decoy snaps on hard swim/glide baits and large cranks.
In stained water, I will use them on all hardbaits. I never use them on spinnerbaits, Jigs, Chatterbaits, or soft plastics......I also fish the speed traps which come with snaps, great little crankbait, it's one of the only crankbaits I wish came with better hooks. Usually I am happy with most stock hooks on lures.
I have used snaps on texas rigged swimbaits and flukes simply cause its convenient, and can't say it has helped or hurt. Gives the bait the same action as tying a loop knot, also creates a slight rattle. Snaps are personal preference, confidence thing. I used to be completely opposed to snaps until the last decade...I have watched plenty of people better than me have success with them, so I have evolved. It makes it easier to change out lures, colors etc....Not sure that is a plus, but it makes it easier than tying a knot.
I have been using the Norman clips with hard baits on the boat. I find that my red eye shads will foul up if I yo yo retrieve too violently though. I have to be real careful to not let the line get slack while the bait is dropping. I think the clips are causing this, but so far I just account for it and it's not a big deal. It's a good trade off for being able to switch bait sizes or colors.
Bank fishing, I'm usually not trying as many different baits like I would on the boat because in the boat I have most all techniques covered with their own combo. So I just tie when bank fishing.
