Soft Plastics 2024

fishing user avatarMossyoak88 reply :

Hey, just wondering what you guys thought is the best soft plastics lure.

fishing user avatarMossyoak88 reply :

Or I should say your favorite soft plastic lures.

fishing user avatarnascar2428 reply :

Senkos.

fishing user avatarPond fisher reply :

I am going to devote this year to fishing only Charlie Brewer Slider lures and tackle.

fishing user avatarBassmanDan reply :

Zoom mag lizard

fishing user avatarBig C reply :

9" Big Hammer Sledge Hammer.

fishing user avatarpapajoe222 reply :

Welcome to the board. As a newbie, you have no Idea the can of worms you just opened. So sit back and enjoy.

BTW, for me it's Culprit for worms, Rage Tail for craws, and BPS for their Tender Tubes.

fishing user avatarStarchalopakis reply :

I am lovin the Rage Tail Cut R Worm right now

fishing user avatarscaleface reply :

 Scuppernong-flavored Jelly Worm .

fishing user avatarSenko lover reply :

Stickworms! Any size, any shape. Cut'R worms, Yum Dingers, Strike King Shimmy sticks, higher end ones like the actual senko. They work, any rig, any waters.

fishing user avatarOntarioFishingGuy reply :

Power Minnow!

fishing user avatarPenguino reply :

Zoom ribbontails.

fishing user avatargeo g reply :

I would say senko type baits will catch fish under all conditions. The 4" size will catch more fish, and fish of all size, then the bigger version. I personally used the bass pro stick-o which is a way better buy, and it's just as good a fish catcher as the expensive Japanese version. Use the least amount of weight for the weather conditions. The more wind the more weight. I often throw weightless Texas rigged, and fished slow on loose line so it slow flutters on the fall through the water column. I have caught thousands and thousands of fish on the little bait. Great bank fishing bait also. It seldom hangs up even in the thickest cover. It is definitely my go to bait!

fishing user avatarSchuyler co reply :

Love me some roboworms and zoom trick worms on a drop shot!

fishing user avatarLong Mike reply :

You will receive as many opinions as there are plastic baits.  Why not rephrase your question and ask for opinions on specific baits?

fishing user avatarCK_32 reply :

Depends, on the weather, the water conditions, where/what I'm fishing.

Most of the time, being I live in sunny CA for salt fish like halibut and bay bass .

I usual go to is a 3.5" swim bait by hammer. But I just started pouring my own so pretty soon my own baits are ganna be my favorite. Hopefully :D

fishing user avatarWarEagleBassin reply :

senkos or zoom lizards

fishing user avatarMossyoak88 reply :

Ok, what do you guys think about worms?

Robo-worms on a shaky head rig also.

fishing user avatarLong Mike reply :

What size and type of worm did you have in mind?  There are many variants.

fishing user avatarMossyoak88 reply :

4-15 inch swirly tail

fishing user avatarOzark_Basser reply :

GYB hula grub or Don Iovino reapers

fishing user avatarABW reply :

Senko, Pit Bosses, and Rage Craws for me

For worms I like the Berkley Powerworm but I want to try out some of the ones that Rage Tail has to offer.

fishing user avatarplumworm reply :

Where is going to go from here? I once watched a young girl catch a bass on a pink senko at a boat landing on Rayburn. (true story)

fishing user avatarwhitwolf reply :

R.I. Beavers(smallie and sweet) and many Zoom plastics. Last year the Zoom magnum finesse worm was a very good bait, fished weightless.

fishing user avatarTheSmilingSwordsman reply :

Oh wow! Here we go.

Short strait tailed worm: Roboworm 6 inch

Long worm: Zoom Ol' Monster

Stick Bait: Yamamoto Senko

Craw: Rage Tail Rage Craw

Beaver Style: Berkley Havoc Pit Boss

Creature Bait: Zoom Baby Brush Hog

Soft Jerk Bait: Zoom Super Fluke

These are some of my favorites but by no means is this list locked in nor am I opposed to fishing a different brand than what I have listed. For instance, take the Roboworm I have listed as my favorite short strait worm, I often use a Zoom Finesse worm which is a direct competitor. Instead of a Senko, I will often use a Yum Dinger. There are very few soft plastics that have not worked for me at one point or another.

If you are new to the world of soft plastics, I recommend you read as much as possible here on Bass Resource and find one or womtechniques you would like to try. Then go buy a couple of packs of plastics and hooks to match, take them to the lake and start experimenting.

Have fun and good luck.

fishing user avatarDrew03cmc reply :

When I'm tossing worms, give me a Zoom Finesse worm rigged weightless. Craws are my favorite plastic bait and if im not on a watershed that I can look for 100 fish days, the Yum Craw Papi is tough to beat, but for a more durable bait, the Zoom Ultravibe Speed Craw and hopefully the ZMan Turbo CrawZ will work out. I don't toss tubes, but I like Kalin's grubs.

fishing user avatarDocNsanE reply :

Yum Dingers have worked for me as well as senkos and are cheaper.

Rage craws are fantastic

Am looking forward to trying the Stanley Y-Not.. those floating appendages look killer.

Zoom Super Flukes are fun to fish and last year I caught a ton on the Strike King Caffeine Shad

Short strait tailed worm: Roboworm 5 inch...

Do you bite the heads off the 6" models to shorten them or do you glue a 1/2" to the shorter models to make them measure up to 5"?

Roboworms don't come in a 5" size . :)

Haha. No, I guess I just had the length wrong in my head when I typed this up. They are in fact 6".

Just messing with you.  You are correct, the 6" models are killer - a 6" Aarons Magic was responsible for the PB in my avatar photo.

fishing user avatarTheSmilingSwordsman reply :

Aaron's Magic is my favored color as well. It just flat out works.

fishing user avatarchrisdm4 reply :

Yamamoto flappin hog for sure!  killed it last year with them.  Sinko is right behind it though.

fishing user avatarGrizzn N Bassin reply :

They all work, just fish them!

I like the Berkley Gulp Turtleback worms, but they are a little tricky as far as handling.  If you leave it on the rod for too long (90 minutes?) without getting it wet, it is ruined (shrinks & gets hard).  The packages they come in are notorious for leaking, so I end up double bagging them to stop the juice from leaking all over.  As a bait however, I have had good luck with the junebug & pumpkinseed colors when I have used them.

I just re-read my post - "shrinks & gets hard", "double bagging", "juice leaking all over"... I am talking about plastic worms, right? :)

Excactly! I was fishing at a pond using senkos, but ran out. I remembered I had a pack of Cut r Worms I had bought on a whim at DSG because they were on sale a few days earlier. I haven't used any senkos since! hahaha. I get a lot of topwater blowups on them, just as I am about to pull it out of the water to recast! I am usually fishing at night so it scares the crap out of me everytime!

In the marshes around here we speed reel em on top, dropping em in pockets.
