Question guys what buzzbaits do you prefer? The gear I'll be using is bps extreme real 7:1.1, a 6'6" rod mh. With powerpro braided line 50 lbs test. Thanks for the help guys
Cavitron 3/8oz whatever color blade you prefer and black skirt. There you're done
Cavitron 3/8oz Black on Black
I like a half ounce over a 3/8, just because I can throw it farther. I think distance and covering the water matters when you are throwing a buzz bait.
Cavitron, Black on Black
I'll take a 3/8 black Cavitron too, I like the slower speed of the 3/8 most of the time. Also I like a rod more in the 7' range, but 6'6" will work.
I don't use them
New colors Chartreuse Illusion--black silver scale-
just picked up a 7' Berkeley rod will this work?On 5/30/2013 at 11:47 PM, 38 Super Fan said:I'll take a 3/8 black Cavitron too, I like the slower speed of the 3/8 most of the time. Also I like a rod more in the 7' range, but 6'6" will work.

Well it would work I'm sure depending if it's the right Power/Action. I usually throw my buzzbaits on a 7+ MH/F.
its a medium heavy im7 extra fast tipOn 5/31/2013 at 1:04 AM, lmbfisherman said:Well it would work I'm sure depending if it's the right Power/Action. I usually throw my buzzbaits on a 7+ MH/F.

This is my go to buzzbait.
What line do you all prefer for buzzbaits?
I prefer mono or a copolymer in 12lbs test

What about 50 lbs test it's the same diameter?
I prefer my line to have a little stretch to it so I don't pull it out of the fishes mouth.

This is why I was asking that question. I was thinking with a M/H fast action and line as stiff as 50 lb braid that you might miss a lot of bites. I'm not so worried about diameter with a lure that is topwater and the line isn't in the water. I would be throwing it on a 7' M/H fast action so I was thinking maybe 20-25 lb copolymer.

Especially if you are using that Berkley with a XF tip. I'd recommend a mono or Copolymer.
I guess I need to get some Cavitrons. I use Booyahs but I really don't use buzzbaits that much.

I don't think I have problems with hook up ratios with braid, I usually go full braid. That is why I wait to make sure they have it before I set the hook. (Count to 3 or say the phrase "Set the hook", I will also set it when I think I know they have it before I finish counting..etc).

I use Booyah too, they work just fine. Heck even the BPS brands work well. I used them on my trip last year and the smallies didn't care it was "BPS or Booyah". Even caught a pike with it too.
I really like double props on my buzzbaits, make quite the commotion. My favorite is chartreuse and white with gold blades. If i'm throwing a single prop its a cavitron. Bobby doesn't make a bad color, they are all good. Wish he would make a double prop version.
Strike king, cavitron, booya.. blue, black,.. black blades or sliver during the day.. chartreuse skirts as well
7ft med heavy rod with 14 lb mono-Cant beat it
im with retiredbosn i like double bladed because they make more commotion and you can real it slow while still making lots of noise....if i have to use a single bladed i like cavitron
for colors i like silver blade with white skirt with my double bladed and the red blade with white skirt cavs

Sure, you said it's MH EF, that's a good way to go. 6'6" is fine, and can be very handy in tight bank fishing situations, but overall I feel a longer rod helps you work the lure better, and bring it up on plane easier.
Buzzbaits aren't picky about line either, I've thrown them on mono, copoly, braid, and fluoro, and they all have their pros and cons, really just comes down to personal preference, and or cover.

When you say plane...what are you meaning?

What color would you choose on murky water?

Getting it on top. A buzzbait sinks like a stone, so soon as it hits the water, it helps to have a long rod to quickly pick up more line and get it back on top.
Brand really doesn't matter for me, as long as its quality components even the generic $3 buzzers catch fish just as good....even the premium brands can get trashed after a few big fish. Retuning them works sometimes, sometimes you can tweak and adjust and never get them right.

With a trailer hook ?
I've never had much luck on buzz baits until recently. Most of my recent success including today has come on a 1/2 ounce Strike King sexy shad.
i dont use a trailer hook and dont really see the need as when they hit it they smash it lol

Well my buddy swears by them and every time he fishes them the red trailer hook seems to be the ticket.
I always use a trailer hook. Catching 1 extra bass might turn a good day into an awesome one.
Tournament fishing I use trailer hooks -otherwise nah
1/2 or 1/4 and I'm told their not suppose to go in a straight line. So how do you get them to not go in a straight line?
