Anyone try the new laser lure? 2024

fishing user avatarNCgreenheads reply :

I'm very speculative on this laserlure. But I have been at Bass Pro Shops and seen what a laser pointer does do to fish. Quite interesting. Anyhow, has anyone tried it??????? I would like some feedback as to if I should try one or not. The lure seems kinda corny but hey, it might work. You can go see it at laserlure.com. No I am advertising for them. Just need some info. Thanks! :-/ :-/

fishing user avatarBassFishingMachine reply :

Im sure it would catch fish, but I don't think it would produce better then the name brand products that are put through testing, and have been catching fish for years.

Personally, when I see baitfish start blinking red every few seconds, I will be the first to buy one of these baits. But until then, I'll stick with my rapalas, lucky crafts, bombers, and so on.

fishing user avatarNCgreenheads reply :

Good point!

fishing user avatarSPEEDBEAD. reply :

Gimmick.

How's it go Roadwarrior?  About to be banned in 50 states and illegal in tournaments b/c it catches too many fish?

Save your cash.

Outfishes live bait 4:1.

I know I'm gonna get slammed, but they actually work.  I've caught a decent number of fish on them, but my friend who gave me some to try, caught his new pb on the shallow diving laser crank.  It was something like 10-4.  He loves them, and he outfishes me with it.  I don't know if it catches more, but it does catch.

Bring 'em to Kentucky.   :D

fishing user avatarBig Tom reply :

I will admit that the laser part is a bit gimmicky but with that aside its one good lookin' crankbait.  As senko77 has already said, I can see this working just fine.

fishing user avatarSpeed Worm reply :

I saw an add for this product in a fishing magazine. What retailer carries this product?

fishing user avatarsenko_77 reply :

Speed - I'll bring a few with me.

The thing I like about them is that once the light runs out, you have a lure with lucky craft qualities

My buddy showed me a video of Alton Jones out on Amistad SLAYING them with the deep diving laser crank.  If I can find it, I'll post it.

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

I think the idea of potentially dumping batteries (toxic waste) into the waters we fish is freaking brilliant.

fishing user avatarDan: reply :

I assumed they were a gimmick when I first saw them but then I saw a guy demonstrate one in a bass tank. He demonstrated a senko, a spinnerbait, and a shakey head and none of them interested any bass. Then he used a laser crankbait and it got a lot of attention from the bass. Now, it could very well have been the case that the fish were used to the other lures or that they were just keying in on crankbaits but it was still interesting and made me think twice about the whole laser lure concept.

fishing user avatarCaptain Rhino reply :

Can the batteries be changed when they run out? Or do you have to buy a new lure? If they can be changed, how is this done?

fishing user avatarsenko_77 reply :

Wrong.  The batteries aren't "dumped" into the water.  I'm sure that your outboard has never dumped any of it's "toxic waste" into the lakes you fish.

Captain Rhino - The batteries cannot be replaced, but I believe they last 100 hours in the water.  They immediately stop blinking when they exit the water.  The water completes the circuit to make the laser activate, and when the lure exits the lake, the circuit is broken.  Once the battery is out, then you have a lure that is similar to lucky craft quality.

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

I fish from a kayak, LOL.  I get the point.  But, how many cranks have you lost last year?  Would you throw that many batteries in your home lake?  WHat if more and more did? Why limit it to batteries?  Most of what we lose while fishing is relatively benign.  Batteries are not.

fishing user avatarfishizzle reply :

a few tiny watch batteries in  a pond will not affect the ecosystem.

There are far more harmful pollutants in lakes to worry about.

What about oil-based scents?  and suntan lotion, And marine batteries when a boat gets capsized along with the gas can

2 stroke motors, exhaust

Within the next couple hundred years all the fish in New York will have a reinforced jaw area so when people hold them incorrectly it won't hurt them. ::D

The battery is also sealed inside the bait.  I don't think its gonna leak out into the water.

I've always though it would be cool to throw it without hooks and have a fish swallow it.  You would release that sucker and it would be blinking.  The next guy who caught it would have a fish with a light blinking in it's stomach.  LOL

I guess that's a pretty cool idea, but not very efficient over a long span of time. I was considering buying one, but I'd probably wait until they come out with a type that uses interchangable watch batteries. If I bought one and the battery went out, everytime I'd look at the non-blinking $16 lure, I'd be kinda ticked that I didn't just buy 3 or so regular cranks for $15. I'd like to be able to buy more, but I'm a college student trying to pay for tuition, so my pockets are pretty shallow.

New Hampshire already has laws against it, I'm sure more states will follow sooner or later.

fishing user avatarA.Do? reply :

Yeah, I think most environmentalist aren't as worried about anglers using lead as they are of the lead shots used by hunters, but I'm sure they'll do something about it soon before it gets too bad. I did a report in college about this a few years ago and it was crazy how much lead sits in some lakes. But that's off topic....

Would these lures kick butt for night fishing or scare fish away?

Yes, which is also in batteries.  Its sale is banned in NY.  Lead isn't as soluble in water as mercury is, though.  Mercury is also found in batteries.  The lead ban primarily pertains to protecting loons.

That video is different from what I experienced.  Like I said, the topwater and deep diving crankbait that I have stop blinking when they exit the water

I cant remember how,but I got in contact with the creator of Laserlure  about 2 years ago. He sent me some "Samples" to try out. This was at the end of the season, and I was pretty much done going to the lake as my Trolling motor battery "jumped" out of the back of the truck when I hit a bump on the last trip I took to the lake. I didnt fish at all  the whole next year(2008). Tomorrow will be my first time on the water in over a year.Ill have my Deep Diving Laser Lure "samples" with me and will give them a try and report back with my results.

Just so you know,I have a huge arsenal of soft plastics, and thats all I really ever throw. My confidence baits are Senkos and Baby Brush Hogs... and as a last resort,Dropshot.I NEVER throw crankbaits,so if I catch anything on a Laser Lure, that will truly mean something(at least to me). I am also by no means a pro. Im just an ordinary recreational fisherman that owns a 10 foot Jon Boat powered by a trolling motor.I dont know if it will make any difference, but I am pretty rusty,I havent used/operated my boat in over a year and its been that long since I visited the lake Im going to.Its almost like going fishing for the first time again and im pretty excited.

On a side note,Laser Lures must actually work as Mike Ike and Boyd Duckett are sponsored by them. Big name successful people such as those 2 pros dont waste thier time on "Gimmicks" There must be something to these baits.

Stay tuned as I will report back with results of my testing of Laser Lures.

fishing user avatarTin reply :

Roland Martin is a big name who has ruined his name and credibility by sponsoring gimmicks. Remember the Helicopter Lure?

And yes, the work...

fishing user avatarmattm reply :

I haven't caught anything on them yet.  Not giving up since I've only fished them twice and didn't stay with any crank a long time, but so far nothing.  Bait appears to be of good quality though.  both the ones I tried stopped blinking as soon as they exited the water.

fishing user avatarSenkoShawn reply :

i seen it on commercial well watch the bast master the other day.

NO THANKS...

fishing user avatar-nick- reply :

Not worth it. If I could go back I would buy a couple RC 1.5s instead. Its a nice looking crank and I use it in stained water but I don't feel it's any better than any other shallow square lipped crank.

fishing user avatarairborne_angler reply :

Well I went out and tried 2 different Laser Lures deep diving Crankbaits yesterday. NOTHING. But I am also not a crankbait type person. I threw where I thought maybe the fish would be,long casts to cover lots of water. During the daylight, you cant see the laser, maybe the fish can though.

I fished it in the shade and could see the laser blinking, but again,no luck.

It was pretty windy and my 10" Jon boat was blown all over the lake. I ended up only catching 2 fish the whole day yesterday. They were both caught on a Brush Hog imitator. 1 was a dink Bass and the other was a Green Sunfish. In really dont think I felt ANY other bites at all.

As to the amount of bites I got/fish Icaught yesterday,I dont know if the conditions were right to catch ANYTHING in that darned wind, much less a fish on the laser lure. Ill be a skeptic until I catch something on it.Its soft plastics for me....

I thought I would revive this thread after almost a year and ask if anyone used them during the 2009 Bass season? I've just purchased a couple of them and I'm anxious to test them out.

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

Hmm...

When you were digging around did you miss

the thread running a couple of weeks ago?

Generally, the comments were neutral or

negative. The lures themselves seem to be

interesting, but the laser appears to add very

little or nothing.

Bottom line: There are better choices at

considerably lower prices.

i don't know about boyd duckett sponsoring them being a good thing , he talked alot of cr*p about Carrot Stix being not made to his standards and at the same time is sponsored by a gimmicky lure company , alot of hot air from him , that's MY opinion  8-) so in saying that , his endorsement does nothing for my confidence in the bait ............
