50 and 80# braid and favor spinning gear so highly, might I ask what species of fish would you be targeting?

Thanks guys! Im going a local bass club this spring as a non boater ( but own a boat). The problem is I have never fished in a tournament before. I have fished forever but never just targeted Lmb, mostly crappie and whatever we could get to bit our Lindy rig. Im trying put together a set of rods and presentations/technique to master and become comfortable with. After reading magazines and watching videos. Im just confused on what I need to be successful. So I thought that this question would put in the right direction. Thanks again

well i just purchase new rods and combos. i use these rods for only freshwater, just like having a flippin stick setup on b/c. i use a 8 ft surf rod spinning reel since they dont make spinning setup for flippin, so i have to make my own. i basically use one piece surf rods for my heavy bass broomsticks. for my saltwater i use your typical 7 ft rod with a penn spinfisher reel and 20 pound braid.
Horseshoe welcome to bass fishing. I understand wanting to try to get a short list of go-to equipment and baits. The list may not be that short , but there are some fundamental choices that will give you a good start. Roadwarrior has posted many times his basic equipment list of 3 combos. I can't seem to find it now, but it looks much like this: A 6' 6"-7' MediumHeavy Fast/Extra /Fast baitcast combo for single hook baits (jigs, worms, spinnerbaits, etc.), A 6'6"-7' M or MH Moderate action baitcast combo for treble hook baits (crankbaits, topwaters, etc.), A 6'6"-7' Medium Fast/Extra Fast spinning combo for finesse (small unweighted plastics, shakyheads, grubs, etc.). With these three combos you can fish the majority of bass fishing techniques and baits. As time goes on you can (and will) add to the list based on your preferences.
I have
6'8" compre m/h fast w/ revo s #40 pp
7' diawa h/f w/diawa baitcaster #40pp
7' compre ml /f #6 suffix spinning
7' Clarus m/mod. With #12 mono and a pro max
7'6" st criox eyecon ml/extra f #6 mono spinning
7' guide series mh/f spinning
Thinking about
7'3" mh/f for c -rig and 7'6" mh for flipping
The 5 I've been using this year a lot -
1. Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth - 6'9" M/XF - Symetre 2500 FI - Flukes, Drop Shot
2. Fenwick Aetos - 7' M/F - Stradic 2500 FJ - Tubes, weightless plastics, Squarebills
3. St. Croix Avid - 6'6" M/F - Daiwa Lexa 100 - Jerkbaits, Top water, bladed baits
4. GLX 854 - Chronarch CI4+ - Flipping/pitching Jigs and texas rigs 1/4 to 1/2 oz
5. GLX 853 - Chronarch 50MG - Lighter jigs and weightless
Do guys think I can get away with the ML rods or do they do have enough back bone for shakeyhead, dropshotting and wacky
When I do club tx's we know the draw ahead of time and touch base with one another a day or two before the tx. We discuss what we expect to be doing. As a co-angler I go out of my way to keep tackle brought on board to a minimum without being put at a disadvantage then add a c-rig which can save the day fishing from the back of the boat. Usually end up actually using 2-3 combos each day.

I would agree using a ML/XF rod would be fine, but I think a ML/XF Legend Extreme (or any St. Croix) has ratings more like a M powered rod.
I'm assuming he is asking if his ML/F Shimano Compre 7' would be good enough, I'd say yes. I own a Crucial DS Rod (ML/XF), it is an awesome DS/shakey head rod, especially using light weights.
I'll list what I use on each setup.
Spinning,
Topwater, spooks, frogs, top props, prop torpedos, minnow props.
Carolina Rig 1/8oz. Senko, Brushog, Creature, Swimbaits, worm.
Crankbaits, rapala minnows,
Smaller light weight lures/spinflys/cranks.
Spinnerbaits 1/8oz to 1/4oz.
I carry these 5 rods normally for shore fishing.
1. 6'5 Cumulus/Core 51/20lb Braid Topwater & Jerkbaits
2. 6'10 Cumulus/Chronarch Ci4/20lb Braid Texas rig & Frogs
3. 6'8 Cumara/Curado 51e 20lb Braid Cranks
4. 6'8 Cumara/Sustain 1000fg 10lb Braid Dropshot & Shakeyhead
5. 6'5 Cumulus/Stradic 1000Ci4+ 10lb Braid Small Jerkbaits & Topwater

Solid as an anvil, versatile as a pair of ChannelLocks, dependable as a 30/30
5 setups is a bunch of setups, I can fish anywhere with one, but let´s not split hairs, with 3 I´m more than comfortable, choosing the rods it´s not difficult:
Spinning.-
GLoomis SJR782 IMX
Baitcasting .-
GLoomis MBR784 IMX
GLoomis CBR785
Choosing the reels ....... I have so many options and I like them all so much that it´s difficult which to choose.
St croix 7'3 LTB MH/ lews TP/ #20lb invisx - jigs
*** 7'1 MH / Curado 201e / #20 invisx - trigs and frogs
Lews laser crankbait 7 M/ gen2 abu STX #12 invisx - deep crank baits
Loomis GL2 MH / citica 201e / 14# invisx - spinner baits and assorted topwater
Loomis GL2 MH / Calcutta 101/ 14# invisx - jerkbaits
Plans for this year are a dedicated frog and topwater rigs
