Sup guys.
I'm looking for a really good deal on a baitcaster. So I posted in the Flea market section yesterday and a few cool people got back to me with some deals.
I have no clue about any of these reels so I wanted to ask the guys who know. Which one of these reels is "best" and why? I mostly fish for larger bass. I like to make long casts. I hate backlash.
Thanks!
All reels have been offered to me for about the same price. Which is best?

BPS Royal Express
Abu Garcia ProMax
BPS Pro Qualifier
Pro qualifier. If it's the one that has been available the last few years.
Pro Qualifier without a doubt.

If the ProQualifier is the 2009 or later version with dual braking - that would be my choice. Aluminum frame and 6 bearings. Dual brakes (centrifugal and magnetic) offer better cast management that a single braking system reel, reducing the likelihood of backlashes (when the brakes are properly adjusted/used), and thus shortening the learning curve...
Wow - 3 votes for the PQ in a ONE minute span ;D
PQ
Wow sick! Glad I asked. Thanks all.
Another vote for newer the PQ with dual braking.
Another forthe PQ.
I have an older one and can launch it about 6 miles with the wind at my face!
Love my 2. both the dual brake model.
I had a Royal Express, it wasn't a bad reel if you like a round reel. Avoid the Pro Max if it's the newer one (orange, looks like a Revo). I bought one, took it home, spooled it up, went out in the yard, it cast good but sounded like an eggbeater on the retrieve. Plus the thumb bar wouldn't re-engage when you started reeling.
count me in on the Pro Qualifier as well
I'm a big fan of the pro qualifiers. Can't go wrong for the money.
all this pq talk think i need one
Me Too! :

I wouldn't touch any of them with a 10 ft pole.
I have owned the pro qualifier and the tournament zx. Both are good reels but I like the pro qualifier better. Keep in mind that the new tournament zx reels are graphite framed while the older ones (like I have) were aluminum. I would recommend AGAINST buying the new tournament zx based on my obsservations from visiting the bargain cave at Cabelas....many, many of the new tournament zx reels have already been returned. Something inside is breaking. I have had the pro qualifier for a couple summers now and have not had an issue. It is a bit smaller and lighter than the older tournament zx.
If it's the newer PQ, then I'd definitely get that.

Out of the four listed, the PQ, but there are much better out there for that price.

At that price what reels are "much" better?

That's what I'm wondering. My new PQ performs just as well as my Citica E, which is probably the best reel for that price range. I mean I can understand all the others not being the best in that price range but the PQs definitely are some of the best in that price range.

And what would you suggest instead? : If you're going to give an opinion like that, why not give one that is useful to him and suggest a reel? :-?
QuoteSup guys.I mostly fish for larger bass.
;D ;D I always fish for larger bass ;D ;D I need to find a way to tell the dinks
I am with the group that wouldn't purchase any of those reels. I like my Curado E-7 !

I'm sure you do, but some of us don't have that kind of money and have to work with what we have.
Bass_Akwards I know a place you can get a Citica E for 95 brand new if you PM me I'll send you the info it's legit. That is what I would get unless the PQ is one of the newer ones.
Keep an eye on ebay. sometimes you can find a great deal.

I would also recommend a 200E7 over the other reels mentioned, but I believe the OP is dealing with a smaller budget.
I've neither owned nor used any of the reels mentioned by the OP, but out of that list I'd probably choose the PQ based on the positive reviews it has received on this forum and several others. The brand new Citica I purchased last spring turned out to be a lemon, so I'd definitely look the PQ before purchasing another Citica.
I have an older PQ that still works OK. I think I paid just under $100 for it and it came on a IM 8 rod. This is not a bad reel and it has held up well.
I bought a new 201 E7 late last summer for $149. There is no comparison. If you are looking to spend around $100 for a PQ I suggest saving up another $50.
The guy didn't list any prices for any of the reels. How is it people are able to gauge then whether or not the PQ (or any of those reels) are worth it?
