My new JDM Antares DC handle feel off 2024

fishing user avatarStephen Selph reply :

So I got a good deal on a 2016 Antres DC about a month ago from a guy on Ebay which seemed to be functioning really well until yesterday.I was reeling in a 3 pound largemouth, then the handle just literally fell off. I caught the handle before it fell into the water, and I have the drag star as well. I found a parts diagram online here...So it looks like I need parts 1,2&3.

Edit..That's the 2007 version of my reel. Where can I find the 2016 version, and where can I buy the parts? I'm new to JDM reels, and it doesn't sound like I have  a US warranty. Thanks guys for any help. I love this reel, and I need it functioning asap.

Will do, thanks for your help. It looked like the part 3 from that diagram. Chances are pretty low I could find that part here in the US right?

fishing user avatarJ._Bricker reply :

Glad to be of help Stephen, Shimano USA would probably be the other option I'd explore. Due to the time difference with Japan, Jun could probably email you an answer by the time you put on a pot of coffee tomorrow morning

fishing user avatariabass8 reply :

I would contact the tackle trap for that. Probably could get you it quicker. Its just the drive shaft nut and cover/screw. Have them source you them and you can use any nut as long as its the correct size to get you by.

fishing user avatarnameiztaken reply :

How on earth... Not going to question it. Just make sure the drive shaft isnt stripped, if it isnt, just get the new parts like mentioned.

fishing user avatarZimobass reply :

Those parts are identical to the USDM Calais DC. Part numbers BNT3616, BNT3617 and BNT3618. Shimano or Southwestern Parts will have these.

The reel comes with a special socket (BNT3660) that is needed to tighten the handle nut.

A 10 mm is all you need for the nut ......

I wanted to say this as well but I wasn't 100% if shimano and Daiwa both shared a 10 mm nut. I thought I read Shimano was 11 mm but I wasn't certain.I thought I read Shimano was 11 mm but I wasn't certain.

It is a 10 mm nut like most Shimano LP reels. Good luck getting in there without the right socket, and not damaging the nut !! Shimano did not include the socket with the reel just for fun.

fishing user avatarMaico1 reply :

Actually I have a collection of those little sockets as it started about 11-12 years ago when the DC 7 first came out. That so called socket is a pita having to insert a handle into it to make it work. A nut driver with a 10mm thin walled socket is a lot easier to use and certainly was not to hard figure that out......

Looks like you have dealt with this issue before as well. Do you know the part number I need for the nut? Jun from japan tackle has been awesome so far. But he sent me the schematic for the 2007 version, but I don't think the part is the same. Ours doesn't have the spool tension knob, and looks like the handle is held on differently.Thank you for your help!

Do you think this would work to get me up and running again?

The nut you are looking for is the exact same one that is on the 12 Antares HG which matches the color of the one you lost. That part number is BNT 4694 and you should be able to get it from Shimano USA.....

You sir are a life saver! That's the only part I need to put the handle, drag star and spring back in correct? Seems too easy. I went ahead and ordered the part. Thank you.

fishing user avatarMaico1 reply :

Yes provided you have the nut retainer and the screw that holds it on....

fishing user avatarMaico1 reply :

As for the tools go to your local sears and get # 43393 1/4 nut driver and a deep thin walled 10MM socket #34624.....

These are the parts I have, I think the only piece I'm missing is that nut. Do you see anything else I'm missing?

X2- Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you will want to get these parts as well to prevent a repeat of the same situation.

Wonderful, I should have waited a few minutes before hit submit on the order. I will call them tomorrow and see if they will let me add those two parts to the order so I don't have to pay shipping twice. $8 shipping to send a 10mm nut! lol

Are those two parts more cosmetic than anything, or do they provide more of a function to keep the nut from coming loose?

fishing user avatarJ._Bricker reply :

I believe they keep the nut from coming loose...

You are clearly missing the nut retainer and the screw that secures it to the handle.... yes they have a function and are the reason you lost the nut.

The guy I purchased it from sent it without those two parts. I'm not sure how I missed that when I received the reel. I'll reach out to him and see if he will refund me the cost of having to purchase these parts plus shipping. He advertised the reel as almost brand new, and used a picture of a reel that had those parts in the listing. It's worth a shot, all he can say is no.

fishing user avatarMaico1 reply :

The bad news is you will need to get them for the 16 DC handle because they mount differently than the 12 Antares HG handle.....check and see if he has them.

I found the 2016 Antares parts diagram. I didn't realize that those two parts were different before purchasing. I emailed Jun and gave him the right diagram, he originally sent me the diagram to the 07 model. Hopefully it doesn't take me 3-4 weeks to get these parts from Japan like he quoted. The reel only took 2-3 days to get to Tulsa somehow. Hopefully Shimano USA will let me cancel the last order. Thanks for the info, I'm excited to get this fixed so I can take it back out on the water!

fishing user avatarZimobass reply :

Hi Stephen,

I must apologize for the information I gave you. When reading your post, I did not pick up on the fact that you had the 2016 model. The  '07 model is the same, but , not this current one.

Hope Shimano does cancel the order, and be sure to insist the seller pays for misrepresenting the item he sold you.

Cheers,

Terry.

PS Get the socket too, it is not a PITA to use ;)
