What's your worm/jig rod? 2024

fishing user avatarcarySE406 reply :

I need some help on what to look for in a worm/jig rod.  Do you necessarily want it to be longer?  Is a fast or extra fast tip better?  Which would be better, MH or H.  I've been looking at the All Star Platinum and Team All Star rods.

fishing user avatarguest reply :

jfowl32590,

IMPO no matter what MFG., for a worm and light jig rod a 6'6" to 7' Med.Hvy. Power, fast tip action rod. For a heavy Jig rod a 6'6" to 7' Hvy. power fast tip action rod. No need for an extra fast tip action unless you back off of the rod power rating to Med power.

Just my .02¢

Tight Lines!!!

jfowl32590,

Reelmech's advice is solid as usual. I use a 7' heavy fast (Loomis MB844) but I fish 10" & 12" worms in heavy cover.

fishing user avatarFishTank reply :

My favorite is the G. Loomis BCR803. It is by far the most sensitive rod I have ever used.

Here is a review from TackleTour.

fishing user avatarSCarter reply :

RellMech has sound advice as usual. My primary worm rig is a MBR844 with my backup a Team Allstar 6-6 MH. For jigs I use an All Star Titanium 7' H

fishing user avatar5bass reply :

I use a 6'10" MH G-Blank

fishing user avatarCatt reply :

Worm rod: G. Loomis BCR804 GLX, Length: 6' 8, Power: 4, Line Weight: 14-20, Lure Weight: 5/16-3/4, Action: Fast

Jig rod: Daiwa TD-V701MHRB Team Daiwa-V, Length: 7' 0, Line Class: 10-20 lb, Lure Weight: ¼-1 oz, Action: Fast

I have a pair of 6 1/2 foot BPS Extreme MH rods.  I'm not a real big fan of rods over 6 1/2 foot for anything other than flipping or slingin C-rigs.

fishing user avatarjagdbdg reply :

St.Croix TBC66MH

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

I fish spinning tackle for all soft plastics. My main equipment is a St.Croix Legend Elite ES70MF/ Shimano Stella 2500FB/ Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft #6/ Gamakatsu or X-Point 4/0 EWG Offset Worm Hook.

My generic suggestion for selecting the rod is Medium Power/ Fast Action.

Although I use this same rig for light jigs, for heavier lures I'm on board with some of the previous suggestions. My weapon of choice is the G.Loomis GLX MBR844C/ Shimano CTE200GT/ Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft #12/ Micro Munch Tackle jigs and GYCB Fat Baby Craws.

My generic suggestion is Heavy Power/ Fast Action.

I feel that I get more bites with light tackle. Perhaps lighter line allows for more lure action. When fishing soft plastics, I also want to avoid the "professional overrun" that occurs when baits go airborne. It may not happen often, but when it does it's a mess. For me, spinning tackle is a better choice for soft plastics and light jigs.

fishing user avatarNEBassMan reply :

I use a St. Croix Avid, AC70MHF for all T-rigs and Jigs up to 3/8oz.

fishing user avatarlubina reply :

I use the  GLX BCR864 for worms and big Senkos and Airrus Ultra XL for jigs.

fishing user avatarYJsmitty reply :

I have a pair of 7 foot BPS Extreme MH rods.  I love them for the price I'm just a poor college boy I can't afford those G Loomis As much as I would like too.

fishing user avatarhuskertko reply :

As of yesterday, mine is a G Loomis MBR 843 IMX.

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

huskertko,

Congrats!

I know you have been looking forward to getting your hands on that rod. I'm sure you will really like it.

Yeah, I have it paired up with a Shimano Citica 100 and the only thing bad about it is now I want 3 or 4 more.  My old Curados and St Croix Premiers feel like bricks compared to this rod.

fishing user avatarearthworm77 reply :

I have a quiver full of 7ft MH and Heavy Kistler Helium LTA's. I take my pick from about 8 for worming and jigging.

fishing user avatarHawgin reply :

Another high quality option, and my personal choice, is a 7' MHF Fenwick Techna AV.  Very sensitive, light weight, and a few price points lower than a Loomis GLX.

One thing to remember when choosing a rod is don't let a higher price convince you that a rod is better than another.  That is no knock on Loomis because their GLX line is one of the best out there, but there are other rods of similar quality at more reasonable prices.

fishing user avatarflyphisher # reply :

Allstar TAS827C. you got to have a H or XH to get good hooksets. You dont have to have a Loomis to catch fish, that extra $200 doesnt make that much difference.

fishing user avatarjustfishin reply :

I throw a lot of 10"-12" worms and it is on a 6'10" MH Team Allstar fast action. #14-#20 test. Usually #17.

Jigs, 6'6" - 7' H fast action Team All Star. #20-#25 test. Usually #20 in grass and #25 around spatterdock and wood.

fishing user avatarfishbear reply :

I bought a 7 ft. MH BPS Extreme Spinning rod for my worms and jigs, still have not got the reel I need for it, but my birthday is coming the first of March and all I am asking for is BPS gift cards or cash......

fishing user avatarThe_Natural reply :

I use a BCR 893 for pitching plastics, and a BCR 803 for casting and swimming plastics.  I pair both rods with Mg50's and 12-15 fluorocarbon.

fishing user avatarMaxximus Redneckus reply :

I use 2 d5,s on clarus mh 6-6 rods with big game solar collector for my worms and lizards and a falcon pistol grip with a c-3 4600 on it and also 15 lb BG for my jigs its a 6 footer with a heavy action.

fishing user avatarSiebert Outdoors reply :

My favorite one I have is a BCR854.  Best rod I have ever used for all around jigs and worms.

I've also got  BCR 853,855 and some GLx 844's,843's

fishing user avatarIndianaKid reply :

For the last two summers I was wormin and jiggin with a Loomis IMX 843C and then early this past spring I bought an IMX 844C and didnt really like it too much, so I sold it last week and just tonight bought a GLX BCR853 Jig and Worm rod from FatFishFarmer...I cant wait to get it... when I was playing with one in the tackle shop I could tell that it would easily replace my 843 IMX as my main worm/ jig rod. It will be awesome with my Curado 100D that has the bigger Shimano handle on it... dang... I hate havin no money, but I sure do love my Loomis'....

i use a 7ft med hev fast avid ,,,, i love this rod .... it shines when fishing jigs and senkos ....

fishing user avatarRockvilleMDAngler reply :

I use an MBR843C IMX for nearly all jigs and worms with a Curado 201D reel.  I also have a 7' All Star rod as a backup (unsure of model number) with a Curado 201BSF.

fishing user avatarBaitMS reply :

Currently using a St. Croix Legend Elite EC66MHF paired with Quantum E770PT for worm applications. My rod is the green model so its a little stiffer (more like a heavy). Just got a Daiwa T&L frod rod and paired it with Abu Revo SX-HS. Going to use it for pitching jigs and creatures and can't wait til summer to rip some lips with frogs.

fishing user avatarhookem12_0 reply :

I would either go with a Falcon Lowrider Eakins Jig Special or just a Falcon Cara 7ft med/hvy.  You cant beat the quality for the price.
