I've heard rumors about the Core being discontinued for a little while now. I just saw another post on another forum (not citing any references...) stating that the Core would be discontinued for 2015 with the exception of the 50mg7. Does anyone know anything concrete about this?
Yup, because the Core 100 is built on a platform gone for a while, actually I seriously doubt those Core 100 still available are fresh out of the assembly line, the Metanium Mg has been discontinued for two or three years.

Makes sense. Thanks.
The 50/51 Mg7 is the Core I'd grab anyway so... There are still lots of good reels to pick from whether they call it Core or something else. I never quite could wrap my head around the melt down surrounding the Curado/Chronarch relabeling fiasco.

Exactly as you stated. I got my info from a reliable source.

Oh yeah, that was a real screw up.
I thought it was because the Chronarch E was a pricier Curado E.
Or was the Curado E an under priced Chronarch? The price was going up either way. My suspicion is that if they had kept the Curado E and marked it up to $199.99 then introduced the "all new" Condor, Cavalcade........ or whatever at $149.99 there wouldn't have been much if any blow back. Then without all the clamoring and hoopla we may not have gotten the Ci4+ Chronarch or maybe no Curadi I. Forgive me, my wife was watching the Butterfly Effect last night.
They need to reinvent the Chronarch 51mg at a decent price point.
I love the one I have. Sick little reel.
Most of the people who were in an "uproar" were fans of other brands who were never interested in buying either reels. They just took the opportunity to take a shot at shimano. Everyone else who mattered just continued to buy the chronarch e. The new models were going to come out regardless, due to the fact that shimano updated the Antares with new technology and that was going to trickle down into the lower priced models and they were in the process of updating their line up.On 10/30/2014 at 2:24 AM, Delaware Valley Tackle said:Or was the Curado E an under priced Chronarch? It's true Arv, I just ordered some reels thru a Shimano rep and wanted the Core 100MG7 but he said he couldn't get it anymore because it's discontinued, so I opted for the Core 50MG7 instead...I'm not complaining tho

lol, yeah, if I was to get any Cores in the future, they'll be 51's
I will probably buy a second Core 50mg7 when the time comes for them to go extinct. The lightweight component combined with the finesse/all around use and and palmability make it a personal favorite.
Mine is sitting on a 6"10 MH cumulus and the outfit without line weighs 8.5 ounces.
Absolutely true and by purchasing 100DSV spools you could spool thicker line.On 10/30/2014 at 2:38 AM, SPEEDBEAD. said:They need to reinvent the Chronarch 51mg at a decent price point.

Yep... I picked another 100MG up at Gander Mountain online for $210. It was listed as discontinued on their site. I thought of buying another but when I went back to their website, it was no longer listed. I called Gander Mountains customer service and they said it was discontinued and no longer available (even for backorder). Awesome reel.
You know it is bad when this die hard Shimano guy got so confused he bought a Lew's!!!
I sold my first and only core 51 i had to free up money for another reel purchase. What a mistake that was, picked up another one 3 weeks later, haha
Awesome reel !!
Shimano just launched a new website today. The core is included under low profile reels.

There is still good chance that it is gone though; I can only find the Aldebaran 50mg7 and BFS XG on the Japanese website, and they usually take things off when it gets discontinued completely.

Yes, but that doesn´t mean it´s still manufactured, the Core 100 MG7 is no longer there. The Calais 200DC is still in the catalog and it´s no longer manufactured, it hasn´t been for at least a year, that means: you liked them ? ----> get them while we still have a few to sell !

Really?
Everyone else who mattered? Really?
It's rather difficult for me to believe a fellow fisherman could actually post such drivel.
As in people who were actually in the market to buy a G or a competing reel in the price range, not people who take jabs at Shimano on the internet but had zero intention of buying one.On 10/31/2014 at 5:42 AM, .ghoti. said:Really?

Back on topic, I suspect if the core 100 goes on sale they will be gone in a flash.. Just like the Curado Gs

I wonder if they'll even put them on sale. Is Shimano supposed to be coming out with something that will take its place? I could almost see suppliers selling out just for the simple fact that they won't be getting anymore in and people want to get their's before they're gone.

Metanium 13 pretty much took its place.

Seriously?
People were in an uproar because they were used to chronarch d's and figured the new chronarch would be just as good but we're tricked into buying a downgraded reel. Same thing with the curado, they were tricked into buying a g series thinking it would be the same quality as the e series.
Do you really think people were getting tricked? Seriously? The D was 100 dollars more than the E. Fact.. Chronarch D didn't sell, that's why the plug was pulled. People loved to complain about that yet hardly anyone ponied up and bought it. The renaming of the curado/chronarch line didn't make sense to me but it didnt matter as I was not interested in any of the reels. Don't get caught up in name cache, the curado G was not a bad reel as anyone who actually owns one will testify. It was a downgrade in a couple of components to the E and not made in Japan hence the reduction in price. My point was that people who were never in the market for a shimano in that price range did most of the complaining on the internet. Whats the point of complaining about something you were never interested in anyways? On 11/1/2014 at 3:07 AM, adam32 said:Seriously?

I bought over a dozen Curado E reels when they were disco'd, and three Chronarch E reels when they first came out. It mattered little to me what they were called, nor did I feel tricked. For what I payed ($75 for the Curados, $120 for the Chronarchs) I got great reels.
Over a dozen curado e's for 75 bucks each huh. Let me guess, they're all still as smooth as the day you took them out of the box.

FYI, he sold them here for $100 each if IIRC.

That can be said the same about many other things such as cars where people will complain about how the new series not being as refined, this and that, yet how many of them actually drive one or can afford one.
I agree with what you said, but Shimano made the wrong move and it didn't sit well with their fan base. Nothing wrong with any of their reels at each price point. I have many of the Curado Es and was excited to see what the new Curado was going to be and out came the G series and Chronarch Es which was very disappointing. This is all in the past and I'm glad they took a step in the right direction again.
