I'm jonesing for the new super duty. That thing will be one sweet reel

fishing user avatarDelaware Valley Tackle reply :

Please indulge me and refrain from referring to any over the counter rod as "Custom". :)

fishing user avatarPAGreg reply :

Man do I wish Lew's would make a bb1 pro with a 8.1:1 ratio! Until then, I want that super duty.

fishing user avatarjrstrick reply :

***.com has a link to a short video showing these new items

and that new team lews with the 7.2:1 ($240) seems super sweet but the idea of having an 8:1 superduty speed spool for less than $200 (think it said $175) makes me :eyebrows: :eyebrows: :eyebrows:

fishing user avatarjrstrick reply :

I also like the idea of the return to the original paint scheme on the speed sticks versus the reddish color that has been around lately

Welcome to the site jrstick if you're new, or welcome back if you've been here before.

I agree that the new stick looks much better. I think the red rod looks a little cheap. We'll see how they look in person. I'm not sure I'll like having the hook keeper on the trigger. Seems like a good way for me to grab a hook.

That Team Lew's Lite reel at 5.7 oz looks pretty sweet as well. And I've had my eyes on the old Super Duty. Might have to hold off for a bit now.

Agreed on that about the hook keeper.  I didn't pay it much attention on the video until you just now said it.  Picked up a "33 platinum" combo for my girlfriend to use when she occasionaly goes out with me when they first came out and was thinking that it was odd for them to not have a hook keeper when the base model and then i realized that the platinum does have a keeper made right under spool.

I have two of the red ones, and they're alright sticks for what I paid for'em. I def would not pay full retail that's for sure. I can't stand having to put my lure on the reel since they have micros you can't even use an eyelet!

You should never use a guide to hook your bait on.

I always tell people this. Use a guide insert or hook it onto the reel or something!

I usually hook onto the guide foot if no keeper......but not with micros

fishing user avatarJason Penn reply :

nice seeing reels that aren't black.  not sure i dig the looks of the rods though.

fishing user avatarjason41987 reply :

kind of off topic, but why the lust for 8:1 or so speed reels?.. is it to reel in lures faster while you turn the knob at the same speed?.. why not just turn the knob faster instead to reel in faster for lures that need a faster retrieve?.. i just dont get why people have a bunch of different retrieve speeds, i seem to have trained myself to reel in faster or slower depending on the lure.. now, going with a slower than normal retrieve ive had some issues getting the speeds down, so i really just focus on the amount of line it reels in per turn, so long as thats the same i can use any retrieve speed (30" per turn is what im used to which is around a 6:1 on my reel, 7:1 on low profiles i believe)

The knobs on the Team Lews Lite are sweet.  My new favorite stock knobs.

I'm no expert, but I know high speed reels are good for presentations where you use the rod to move the bait quite a bit and have to pick up a lot of slack. They are nice when you are pitching baits fairly far, and have to crank in quite a bit of line between pitches to hit every spot as you work a bank. It can be exhausting to do that if you have to crank super fast. If you are making long casts with a lure, it's nice to be able to get that slack out quicker, if you might be getting a bite on the drop. Some people like them for buzz baits, as it is easier to get on top and keep the bait there.

I've typically used reels that were mostly the same gear ratio, so that I have one less variable to think about, except when it comes to crankbaits, where a higher speed reel will wear you out. But I might buy a higher speed Super Duty for my Heavy action pitching rod.

Which braking system is on the Pro Lite? What is the line capacity? Aluminum or graphite side plates?

Same Speedcast from the BB1 Pro. Carbon sideplates. 12/120

I just about always do but I make sure there is no bend in the rod and no tension on the guide, whether it be the insert or the foot.  I have never had problem.  I don't care for hook keepers, being so close to the foregrip I have grabbed the hook a few times.

I saw an inshore Lews spinning reel yesterday, I wasn't aware they made them.  For some reason DSG in Boynton Beach has some reels displayed without the handles, Lews being one of them so I didn't really check it out.

Thanks for the pic! Do you have any comparison of the new Team Lite's size to the current Tournament Pro? My guess is that the reel would be capable of casting lighter things like weightless senkos and 1/4oz jigs/trigs. Any info on its casting capabilities in regards to weights? Thanks!

fishing user avatarHogsticker reply :

They are listed for pre order at TW. Looks like the new pro lite has a push button side plate release mechanism like older bps reels. I'm liking this reel quite a bit. May be time to venture outside my box.

fishing user avatarSmallmouth Hunter reply :

I'm with you on that one hogsticker. I didn't care for the MSB on the TP, but the pro lite and the other tournament lite or whatever it's called with the same speedcast are definitely interesting.

I have actually been emailing Rick at lews several times basically begging him to put the speed cast in a reel based on the same frame as the tourney pro (and other non-bb1 reels). Hire me lews.

fishing user avatarHogsticker reply :

I think I'm gonna pre order one. It has all the Lews features I like. About time
