Currently I'm using my zebco cardinal 3 and it's a really great reel but I might be looking into getting another reel. Anyone have any recommendations. Price doesn't really matter
Price doesn't matter? Stella 1000
1000 size Shimano or 25 pflueger.
I've said it before,I'll say it again.Shimano Solstace 1000.Bought one last year for 23.99 at Cabelas.Easily one of the best reels I've ever bought. It was a clearance buy and I love it.I put it on a Abu Villian 6'9" Ml and that combo is always with me when I'm on the water.
I really like the Abu Garcia Revo MGX 20. Ive been using mine for a few months now and Im pretty impressed.
Ultralight spinning reel?
Primary: Pflueger President - 20 size
Backup: Shakespeare Sigma 025 (1980s vintage)
For a UL reel, I'd actually go for a 500 size
Shimano. I use 1000 size for bass fishing
all the time. But it is suitable for UL and L
fishing, too...obviously.
Shimano Symetre and Sahara; 500 size. They have been great reels for the money and I have no complaints.

Daiwa 1500CU with a Penn 430SS on tap. New? I don't know. Would take considerable research. Plenty of nice reels in many price categories to chose from. Doubt I want to spend more than $100 on a reel that wouldn't be seeing a lot of use. Maybe an Orra, Fuego, Supreme XT, Okuma RTX, Sedona or a used Procyon, Helios or Patriarch. The President is always a good choice. I like the looks of the Limited Edition and the 1371146 wouldn't be a bad choice.
1000 Stradic 2-MGFB's , 1-FI, 1- FJ, and 1-1000 Saros F. Everyone strung with Sufix 832 10# test and use 4 to 8 #test Fluoro or Mono for leader material.
Shimano Symetre 750 on a 6' Avid UL with 3.5lb DAM Techtan
I don't UL fish that much. The reel I use is an old Mitchell 308.

Oh happy days!
I have two UL rods, a 30 year old 4 1/2 ft Fenwick (this is super UL with no reel seat, only rings to hold the reel) and a 5 1/2 ft Shimano Clarus. I have a Pflueger President 20 ( 6920X ) on the former and a 25 (6925X) on the latter. Great reels for the money.
There was a time in my life where that 4.5 ft Fenwick was my only rod and I used it for everything and caught some pretty big bass on it (upwards of 4 lbs). Until recently I had a very old Shimano on it. When I bought the 20 President I moved the old Shimao to one of my ice fishing rods and it is still going strong after 30 years.
Pflueger President 6920.
What do you mean by ultralight? I've had 6 Pflueger Trions on ultralight panfish setups, 6 ft long light action rods, 4-6 lb test, casting 1/16th oz or less, for 2 years and they still feel like they came out of the box yesterday. Can't say the same for any other low end brand reel at that size. I've tried them all. I just can't justify a $100 plus UL reel for crappie and bream fishing.
Pflueger trion and president 10's, 20's, 25's. Shimano sienna 1000 and and sedona 1000.
Out of all of them, the trion has been the best. I had a run of pfluegers wearing out so I switched to shimanos and they barely lasted 3 seasons and are all on their last leg. My original trions from 10 years ago are still going strong, as is the one I bought two years ago.
For the first year or so I was fishing my only two reels were a 1000 Stradic FJ and a 500 Okuma B. They both have punched far above their weight, especially the Okuma. They both also have survived a good bit of salt water use with only a hose off after. The Okuma is tiny but balances well on a ~5' UL rod.
500 - 1000 shimano.
500 or 1000 size Shimano but it would depend on the rod you're pairing it up with. A 1000 size Shimano filled with braid on a 4' 6" UL rod might feel wonky and unbalanced. On the flipside a 500 size reel on an 8' UL rod might feel wonky the other way around.
another vote for the Pflueger President
I use shimano Sahara 500's on my ultra light bass setups.
Daiwa spinmatic Z 's on my crappie and bream setups.
The shimano 1000's are my regular bass setups.
Major Craft MSX Limited 6'5" UL BFS and a Shimano Aldebaran BFS XG Limited with 5# Sniper.
Casting gear is soooooo much cooler than spinning gear.

How well does that thing shoot a dock?
No dock shooting with this but you already knew that.

Never owned or even seen in person a BFS setup, really have no idea what they're capable of. I enjoy fishing light tackle so they're intriguing to me but the money for an ultralight setup is a hangup for me.

I agree it can be pricey but I can't spend my money when I am dead so I might as well spend it on something that I enjoy. If I wanted to get under a dock, I would skip but that would require that I practice skipping and it has not been a casting technique that I have not put much time into.

It's too bad light bass casting tackle is so pricey. I have a Daiwa PX-R on a Majorcraft Volkey and an Alphas SV105 on a Kistler rod and they are FUN, but costly.
I still have to have light and ultralight spinning rigs in the rod box to enjoy panfishing opportunities.

I bought this UL combo of course for bass but also for panfish. It will throw panfish size jigs, hardbaits and 2" swimbaits without a fuss.
I use about any good quality spinning reel but the line and rod is more important to me. I like rods 7' or longer rated 1/32-1/4, and I've been using 6lb Nanofil to cast 1/32 oz jigs.
I held a little 5' pistol griped casting rod at a flea market over the winter and loved it. I started looking at UL casting reels and quickly put that idea on the back burner. I think it would make a fun little rig for throwing tiny Kastmasters at white perch, but not for the price UL casting reels seem to cost.
I have a president on my UL, which replaced my sahara (and I've been very happy with the switch).
However, lately I've been using the sv105 for that application for no other reason than I can and it's more fun.

I've got a Penn 430SS I keep on a Berkley Lightning. Both are pretty old. Rod is 6' I think, but I don't recall the power rating, and no marking is left on the rod....if there was any to start with. My latest UL is a Fenwick River Runner 7'2" with an older Daiwa 1500. Would have to look to get the missing letters in the model designation. Neither ave been used in a while. Not that i wouldn't love to catch a mess of crappies or big bluegills or sunnies, but they don't stand a chance around here to get very big.
EDIT: Team Diawa-S 1500CU
St.Croix Panfish spinning rod, Pflueger Supreme XT 25 18lb Gliss
Daiwa fuego type a 1000 size I have 3 (1 )on a g loomis glx 6'7" ul rod (1) on a g loomis sjr6400 imx mag lite rod (1) on a g loomis Imx 6' sjr 720 mag lite rod.
This thread would be awesome with pictures
I don't own a spinning reel...

I did not own one for a long time, in fact I did about everything I could to avoid having to use one. I guess my memories were of big heavy clunky catfishing gear of my youth. I finally broke down and purchased an inexpensive setup, to my surprise it was a joy to use. I have since purchased several nice spinning rods and reels and truly enjoy fishing with them. Give it a try, you never know.
for spinning, penn 420ssg with ray scott sport tackle 6'9" light act. rod. I have 2 of these setups.4 lb. test mono.for casting abu 1500 iar with a custom built 6'6" light action rod,MHX blank with micro guides,6 lb. test.
For spinning, it's not really UL, but my Lew's Team Gold and my casting, my Daiwa Steez SV TWS.
I have a couple quantum triax. I like them. Smooth drag for a $30 reel.
Pflueger President... same as the other spinning setups I have.
