Triumph X, Bucoo, or Veritas 2.0 2024

fishing user avatarBrandon Moss reply :

I am trying to figure out what rod to get.  It's primary use will be for jerkbaiting and it will be paired up with a Daiwa Tatula 6.4:1.

The three rods I've narrowed it down to is:

St. Croix Triumph X 6'6" Med

Falcon Bucoo 6'6" Med

or the

Abu Garcia Veritas 6'6" Med

What is your opinion?  *** *** Black is not an option because I have doubts about their craftmanship.

I would go with a Bucoo out of those, personally

fishing user avatarSenko lover reply :

At the risk of being a jerk and not giving you an opinion on the three you mentioned, the rod that got bleeped out has some of the best craftmanship and high-end feel of any rod I've used in the $100 range. Just putting that out there.

Really is a mute point.  I already have a Tatula that it will be paired with. Also rather unsettling that they are willing to sell a $100 rod with a $100 reel for, wait for it $100.  Guess the Triumph X is out.

fishing user avatard-camarena reply :

I can vouch for bucoo. In my opinion the best rod at that price. They can take a beating, just dont get the micro guides.

what?  i don't follow...  you've "narrowed it down" to three rods, as in like done some research i assume, but because one of them is taking part in a killer promotion they're out?  this is truly uncharted territory i believe...  good luck with your decision.

fishing user avatar(='_'=) reply :

i have a Veritas (old one from about 4 years ago), and a Bucoo Microguide... out of the two i would get the Bucoo without a doubt... on the Veritas a guide broke when i got snageed, i was pulling to get the lure free and suddenly the third or fourth guide just poped loose... i also dont like the real seat much, it chipped and wouldnt hold the reel properly, i had to use a ziptie to fix it... its a light rod, i still use it almost every time out, but out of those two rods, i prefer the Bucoo, better quality  IMO.... both of mine are microguides, and i dont complain about them...

fishing user avatarGundog reply :

Bucoo because I can't spend good money on a fishing rod made outside of the US.

fishing user avatarPennBass reply :

I've heard good things about the Bucoo. St. Croix is a great company but I don't have faith in their rods made with less than SCIII.

fishing user avatarTurkey sandwich reply :

If you can justify dropping a few extra bucks, the new Mojo Bass are great rods.

fishing user avatarBronzeChaser reply :

I used to use a veritas for jerkbaits, but it broke. IMO they are a little too stiff for treble hook baits, unless you get the winch series. I would go with the bucoo out of the rods you listed. They are great rods for what they cost. With that being said, the number after 12 rod is better to me, and it's what I use for jerkbaits.

That was my reaction too. Whaaattt???

Buy the croix, sell the reel for $75 and enjoy a $25 rod. Then if you dont like it buy whatever you want and sell the croix for profit or keep it.

fishing user avatarpunch reply :

Just FYI, if you're considering the Veritas (which are great rods) I'd suggest going one power lower. If you want a medium, get a medium light. They tend to run a little stiff. For a jerkbait rod I'd look at a 6'6 ML veritas. I've learned this lesson and always buy them one power lower than what I want nowadays.

My only experience with Abu rods is a couple Villains and have to agree.  Buy one power lower than you would in most other lines.

I wouldn't pay 25 dollars for a triumph x rod! The regular triumph yes but not the x.

fishing user avatarfishballer06 reply :

Spend a few dollars extra and get the Ike series 6'4". It's a must have better jerkbait rod than any of the other rods you listed and it's only $20 more.

moot

fishing user avatarlakeannaangler reply :

From what I've heard falcon bucoo mediums are pretty light action. But if I had to pick one it would be the bucoo

It's also a moderate action.

Yeah that makes sense. The bucoo seems like nice rods for the price. And assuming we are talking about baitcasting rods there is no medium light Veritas.

fishing user avatarQUAKEnSHAKE reply :

How dare St Croix sell a 7'6" Legend Elite for for $130 no way am I getting one of those,

or a LTB for $115, something is up must not be very good rods.

fishing user avatarRobert Riley reply :

I despise the veritas for anything except cranking. Never used a bucoo. I had a triumph for 5 years, broke 2 weeks after the 5 year warranty expired. I'd go with the triumph X over those 2.

I have the old Mojo Bass in SCll and have absolute faith in it. Its a very good rod...why do you say this about the SCll blanks?

fishing user avatarfishindad reply :

Brandon, I also recommend the Falcon. Their "Trap Caster" is one of the best treble hook rods I have used, which includes Dobyns CB704 and CB705 (a close second). It may be a bit long (7 foot) for jerkbaits but it works fine in my hands and I've boated many big St Clair smallies this Spring already with it. And it is an awesome crankbait/spinnerbait/swim jig rod as well. Once you try it, I"m sure you'll agree.

fishing user avatarlmbfisherman reply :

Triumph I'd stay away from because they are not that great.  They don't definitely don't compare to a Veritas sensitivy wise.

I used to have an old Premier. Was a great rod overall until I broke it in two while casting. Then another time. And another. And 2 more after that. Of course, St. Croix, being the great company it is, replaced it every time (and I have a few halves laying around from broken rods). I'm not sure I'm casting wrong or something, or maybe I got really unlucky, but a 1/4 oz. crankbait on a ML rod isn't unreasonable.

Also, I haven't ever had a problem with the SCIII rods, like the Avid, so I think my problems stem from the lower-quality graphite

fishing user avatarYudo1 reply :

I rank them:  bucoo, veritas and triumph.
