Tatula Tactical???? 2025

fishing user avatarsmalljaw67 reply :

I saw that the website not allowed to be mentioned here has an exclusive Daiwa Tatula Tactical reel and I was going to actually give it a shot based on the description and the increased price would confirm the features detailed in the description. The one feature was the "feather light" aluminum frame and then I go a look at the specs, 7.9, isn't that what the other weighed in at? So the reel didn't get lighter, the color changed to a matte black and that is really all I see, I did email the site to find out if the descrition and the specs are correct but I was hoping some Daiwa fans may have some additional info on it.

fishing user avatarChoporoz reply :

I just got a new 100-R for $140 and except for a slightly bigger handle, I don't see the tactical being $40 different/better.  Is the spool actually wider?  Wider than what?

fishing user avatarDirtyDeuceGoose reply :

How I read that description they are comparing the width to the TD Zillion.

fishing user avatarbootytrain reply :

I'm just seeing a different handle nut and retainer, matte black paint, and maybe a smaller zillion style TWS. Everything else is pretty much the same. Looks to be a hybrid between the regular and type r tat.

fishing user avatarMaster Bait'r reply :

Marketing. It's like magic but without the poof of smoke.

fishing user avatarJrob78 reply :

Is says it has a wider spool but the specs on TW say it holds the same amount of line.  It kind of reminds me of the old Black Widow and Trillionaire.

fishing user avatarpoisonokie reply :

yeah, it sounds like a hybrid of a type r and hd with a sleek stealth paint job. I want one.

fishing user avatarpoisonokie reply :

I'm sure it's no different from a regular tatula aside from the longer handle, handle nut, and paint job. The only thing a zillion really has over a tatula is a beefier t wing trip lever and a floating spool, anyway.

fishing user avatardam0007 reply :

Definitely sexy with the matte paint but IMO owning both Tat and Type R, nothing with the name Tatula is worth over $99.99 and that's pushing it.

fishing user avatarpoisonokie reply :

maybe it does have some zillion parts... The t wing guide looks zillion, and the cast control knob looks clicky. Hmmm....

the width of all tatulas is the same as the zillion because it's practically the same frame.

fishing user avatarGrantman83 reply :

I believe they mean the original zillion

fishing user avatarkickerfish1 reply :

Another new Daiwa I will pass on like the new Zillions. Outside of the new Alphas SV and Steeze reels I see no reason not to buy a Standard or Type R Tatula reel. As much as I like Daiwa their sufacating us with slightly different versions of the Tatula which I find to be overkill.

this is standard business practice for Daiwa as they do this with almost all their reels with a couple of exceptions.

Tatula 'tacticool'

Nothing to see here folks, move along.

The TD Zillion is the original Zillion. The new one is the Zillion TWS

 And.........Shimano Doesn't?

I think the Daiwa Tatula is one of the better reels on the market and it is well worth the asking price, although I buy mine much cheaper, I still think it is a fantastic reel. I do not find the new Zillion to be as good though, the old Zillion is a classic.

No not really, they may release a DC version of certain models but you wont see 3 or 4+ iterations of the same reel

Well, maybe it is just me but the  Citica I, Curado I, CI4 and Metanium all seem to look like the same frame with different materials. Before that the Caenan, Ctica G and curado G were all the exact same frame too.

Shimanos share the same general design language but if you think the Met, Chronarch, and curado share the same frame you need to get your eyes checked. That's not even close to what Daiwa does. In the 2015 JDM catalog they have 4 iterations of steezes (3 with SV spools), 4 iterations of T3's, 3 different iterations of Tatulas... and don't get me started on previous Alphas, zillions, and pixys.

fishing user avatarCgrinder reply :

Options are not bad.

fishing user avatarBig C reply :

Are they building off of TacticallBassin'?

I understand your point on Daiwa's and you're right but that doesn't mean it is something that Shimano doesn't do also, because they do. They make the product as cheap as they can and that means using the same machines to make frames. They both do it. I own the CI4, Metanium and Curado I they are cut from the same cloth but made from different materials and some may have a minor depth change but they are still made this way to save the company money. Both Shimano and Daiwa are both very high quality products, even though the company has to make them as cheap as they can. that is simply how business works.

I believe Matt Allen fishes Shimano, at least for his round swimbait stuff.

Pretty sure you're right, I'm not saying they sponsor them.  They might be building off of what they have done.  Just kinda funny that this is the first major company that has named something "tactical" not long after tacticallbassin' is getting some recognition.  Still looks like a sweet reel.

fishing user avatarZuMBLe reply :

I just wanted to chime in that the specs are misrepresented on the tatula tactical.  TW falsely advertises that the Tatula Tactical has a Zaion drag star.  This is not true.  It has the same plastic star the regular tatula has.  The star assembly from the regular tatula consists of the star, a spring, and a brass collar.  The Type-R's zaion drag is only the star and much lighter.  There i no special line guide, the spool tension knob does not click.  You do get the black version of the what appears to be the Type-R spool.  Essentially you're paying for a regular tatula with a type-r spool.  They probably saved money on the having the reels matte black.  Without the zaion star, the TT is not worth it.
