Don't fish much with Duckett's, I saw the reel at a local shop. Anyone have any experience/opinions on them? I have mostly Lew's and Garcia's at the moment. Just want to expand a little.
They're made by the same people who make Abu reels.
Right, but some abu reels are terrible and some are good.
If you want to experience reels truly different from Lews/ABU look at some Daiwa, Shimano or Quantum models. Maybe a Pinnacle. Everything else is pretty much based off one of the other platforms.
Exactly, my one revo is great, but with so many rumors of duds I won't be getting another. On 1/4/2015 at 6:31 AM, hb2392 said:Right, but some abu reels are terrible and some are good.
Do you make all your decisions based on rumors even in spite of your personal experience?
well I got my first revo, love it. But yes, the rumors scared me from purchasing more.On 1/4/2015 at 10:34 AM, Delaware Valley Tackle said:Do you make all your decisions based on rumors even in spite of your personal experience?
Any insight on a Tatula 100, Pinnacle Optimus LTE, or the quantum energy? I'm at work (oilfield) so I'm not able to go to the store to look at them. I want to have a new combo this week for when I go home I'll be ready to go.
I think the Tatula is the finest $100 reel you can buy. I know it's not an option, but I do recommend holding it before buying, since some folks find it uncomfortable. Performance-wise it's an A+ though.
Any of the reels in the $100> range are quality. You can't go too far wrong. I will agree though that the Tatula is a good bang for the buck right now.
Lews are great reels for the money, never used a tatula but heard a lot of hype about them. Haven't heard anything about the Duckett reels aside from the iCast videos.
Those duckett reels are way overpriced. For that money you can get proven reels. A tatula, curado I,smoke, stx, cronarch, tatula type r and HD.
All Lew's here.. I have a couple of BPS pro qualifiers cause of pricing, but now that Lew's has a new Speed Spool LFS at $99 thats what I'm sticking with. I have never had any issues with Lew's.
yeah, for the $150 range to say $220, there are just to many options with reels, so many likes/dislikes of each reel. Companies it seems have to be initiative and bring something new to the market not there before to attract and keep followers. Diawa with the TWS, Shimano it seems to really boost on their X-ship, Lew's with the LFS reels, *** being the new "hot girl," that just moved onto the block, etc.
I dont own any Diawas, but I do know the Tatulas are very popular. I try to stick with the same brand/model reel so, when I fish a tournament, there is no difference when I put down one rod/reel and pick up another. Just personal preference to eliminate variables.
PS, I am getting my hands on a Pinnacle this week to play with. I'll shoot you a PM of what I think of it.

Don't have the Optimus LTE, but do have an Optimus X, XT, and Primmus. They are very good reels. You can find the LTE on Amazon right now for about 90 bucks right now.
I pretty much stick with Lews and Abu too. I gave quantum a chance. Had the PT accurist i believe it was and the high dollar KVD crankin classic and had nothing but trouble out of both of them. Had heard from a couple guys at the local Bass Pro Shop and they hadnt even heard much good about the Exo's. I just bought a Daiwa Lexa baitcast reel couple weeks ago. I live in illinois so havent been able to use it with winter being here but i used a daiwa lexa spinning reel this past summer and was very very pleased with it! very smooth! I also like the BPS Pro Qualifiers as a cheaper reel. I have two and havent had a ounce of trouble out of either.
My personal opinion is that Lews makes awesome stuff if you (like me) are on a budget and want to stay under 150. Over that, I'd go with Shimano.

All of these would be great reels. I wouldn't hesitate to buy any of them. The Tats look sexy, and so do the Quantum's. As a matter of fact so do the Pinnacle's. Buy them all and please the monkey
You would be hard pressed to find a bigger Duckett fan than me. I Flat out LOVE the White Ice Rods and I'm really enjoying the new Terex rods too. Now having said that I bought a Duckett 360 reel because well, I'm a Duckett fan. The reel is simple and it is a nice reel, it is smooth and the drag seems to be ok, (I still think the Tatula drag is smoother) having said that I doubt I will be buying any more Duckett reels. They just do not stand out as anything special to me and they feel kind of like a mix between a Quantum and a Abu reel. I am just not a big fan of the reel. I do not think the reel holds a candle to my Daiwa tatula Type-R reels which I love. Now I am not telling you that the duckett reels are bad because they are not a bad reel but for the price and what you are getting I would buy a Daiwa or Shimano over the Duckett reel all day long. I'm just not impressed by the Duckett reels, now the Duckett rods are fan-freaking-tastic.
If I remember correctly, the Duckett reels have the same centrifugal braking system (and that same glorious "Made in China" font) as my BPS Prolite Specials (now the new Extreme reel?). Once you realize that, it's painfully apparent that the Duckett reels are literally nothing special and doubly overpriced.
My personal policy right now is to flat-out not purchase anything that's carrying the "made in China" font unless it's got a d**n good price on it. It's hard to describe but if you know what font I'm talking about you know exactly what I mean. To me, the presence of the font is a dead indicator for "we were really too lazy to do more than select a product out of the catalog and tell the factory we wanted it in this color".

This doesn't surprise me considering they are a Doyo manufactured reel, they should fish very similar to other Doyo reels like Abu, Lews, Pflueger, BPS brands which all share a lot of common components. Not saying its a bad thing, I personally love the looks of these reels, may pick one up based on that alone if I can find one at a discount somewhere. The pricing strategy was weird as the 320 is $10 higher than the Curado and the 360 is very close to Chronarch CI4 territory.

here is the review for the Pinnacle, it is a Producer LTE, not Optimus LTE. I was just loaned a Primmus and about to post my review of it.

They don't have the same braking system as your BPS. Also, not made in China. They've been working on the reels for two years, so I wouldn't exactly call that selecting somebody's product and painting it. I've used these reels since they were available, right after ICAST. I've never had anything that would throw as far as these can.
Duckett rod yes .. Duckett reel no no no

Close, but wrong. They are made my a South Korean company called Cocus who mad a version of the BPS extreme reel and some other styles. The duckett reels are way over priced for what they are. Just so you'll believe me here is a link. And yes a few plastic parts were changed to make it different from this version which is one of Cocus lowest models.
