Been using 20 lb. Power Pro on a spinning reel for about two months, don't mind it so much in that application. No more twist is nice.
Spent the last three days using 50 lb. Power Pro on various casting rigs and once again I hated it. Thank God I won't be fishing anymore grass this year.
Seriously, what is that you don't like about it..?
I'm right there with you, I was fishing Okeechobee earlier this year and my partner ant I were throwing the exact LFT Hyper Worms and I outcaught him 5 to 1. I was throwing 15lb Fluro and he was throwing 30lb powerpro, I think they could see the braid and shyed away from his.
I even tried braid with a leader but I still did not like having that knot running through the guides. Ive taken it off all my rods and am done with it (Except for saltwater, but thats a different story ;D)
I guess its like that Abu/ Shimano thread in that you should use whatever works best for you.

Im guessing you were in the front of the boat and he was in the back of the boat.

I'd sure like to know what you do not like about it? I have PP on two of my rigs, with a 5' section of fluorocarbon line for a leader on each one. (I use 30# PP with a 20# leader.) I also use the Albright for the connect, which is a very slim knot that flows nicely through the guides. Going on 3 seasons now and no problems, no worries.
Can't a guy just hate something? LOL.
I hate deep cranking, Carolina rigs, wacky Senkos, spinning reels, fluorocarbon, Uni knots, weeds, zebes, gobies, "other species" in tournaments, and no, braid is not really my favorite even though a lot of the cover I fish predicates its use. I may hate it, but if I catch with it, I'll use it.
Braid is excellent; Powerpro is not.
You know I wish you guy's could help me make up my mind about braid I want to try it in one thread and in the next I'm not so sure :-/
Decisions, decisions, decisions If I were to try it what would you guy's and girls recommend?
i tried 15/4 PP on my light spinning rig and hated life.
wind knots let and right. im thinking it may have been too limp. still debating wether or not i should pick up another spool...

Bump up to 20#. That should alleviate your wind knot issues. There is a way to greatly reduce wind knots. After your cast, move your rod tip to either side of your line that is being pulled down by gravity before it settles. When you do, there is now zero chance the line will settle on the rod's tip. 8-)

I have had the best luck with PP braid. Which brand do you normally use?

No. Not allowed here. ROFL!
me too.....may end up giving it another shot but so far I find 20lb CXX easier to use than braid
I use 10# PP freshwater water..never a wind knot, I use 15 or 20# saltwater, no wind knots except one outfit. Put the line on a different reel, 1 month no wind knots. I think ya gotta know how to fish this stuff, pretty simple really.
Booo the braid,...
Feel like I am casting dock lines whenever I use it.
I Hate Fluro...

what size reel was the one with issues?
i guess it depends on what you are using it for.
IM using sipderwire EZ braid #14, i was using triline 100%fluorocarbon before and really lilke it but lost a few fish that pulled me in the weeds, so i gave braid a try and i realy lke it, i might have to experiment with different brands but i like the feel of braid and that if i get oulled in the weed i can just pull them out weeds and all.
that being said i i have a ultralight ugly stick i use for catching bream with 4# mono, and my cranking rod a cheapy walmart excursion with and abu garcia silver max, and that one uses yozuri hybrid

20, 17, 15 lb. CXX, 20 lb. Vanish...like 'em all better than braid.
What don't I like about it? Needing scissors, the feel of it. The fact that my index finger has several cuts from the line due to hooksets.
Don't mind the noise. Hate the lack of abrasion resistance. May be great in grass, but it sucks on rocks and shellbeds.
I'll probably keep using it on my scant spinning tackle, but it shall never stain any of my reel seats again.
I only use braid for flippin/pitchen, and on big topwater baits, i.e. 9" lunkerpunker..ect.
Now I understand why you don't like it.. ;D
I use 50lb Power Pro on all my set up except the cranking one, and 20lb on my spinning rig. I have no issues. No windknots or anything. Have not had fish break off and fish very heavy flooded timber 95% of the time. Love it!

I wanted to try a wide spool reel so I bought a Johnny Morris signature 50 (same as 40 but larger spool) put it on a tsunami inshore airwave rod 8' and gave it a good test over about a week, hated it, knot after knot. Returned it to BPS and exchanged for a Daiwa tierra 30, not a single knot with same line on this reel(20#PP), have had it about a month now.
When I first started using braid I had many problems, then I learned how to cast braid and never a problem anymore, I'd never use mono again.

could you give me some pointers?
i realized i still had half a spool of the 15/4 so i put that on my 801. man , what a PITA. im thinking the coils dig into each other and all come off the spool at once creating this giant mess. i tried soft casts , hard snap casts and it didnt make a difference. i LOVE the sensitivity it has , but if i have to pick out knots every 10th cast... eh.
I was out this morning and I had a windknot, my casting was lazy as it was calm, less than 10mph.
I went back to my normal way of casting, letting the line flow thru my fingers ,just before impact I gently stop the line by squeezing the line with my fingers. Problem solved and lure is running true right at impact. Whether closing bail manually or with the crank has no bearing in reducing a windknot, But I find it easier to do it that way.
I have a small supreme 25 about the same size as the 801, very smooth reel but I've experienced similar problems with braid and mono...........it's a dust collector now.
My 802 is fantastic, I used it for saltwater and now fresh for the last 2 years, same line at least 2years and never a knot.
burleytog,
I know its expensive, but have you tried different braids, like Daiwa Samurai or Suffix? These are significantly better the PP.

Brand doesn't matter. That said, I tried Sufix two years ago, it was worse than Power Pro. Tried PLine Spectra three years ago, about the same as Power Pro.
Just doesn't fit any of my needs. PLine CX & CXX and Stren/Trilene fluoro.
