I was looking into buying a new spinning reel roughly for about 100 bucks maybe 130 at most. The rod it will be in will be a 7ft medium action ugly stick used mostly for Texas rigs with 1/8th-3/16 oz weights. Any tips are appreciated
The shimano saraha or the pflueger supreme would be my choices.
Look for a used Stradic FJ. I see them go for $100-115 all the time. Nothing else is close.
Daiwa company just introduced a new legalis model. It looks like a sweet one.$60 and some of Daiwa's most well known features.
I just got the Abu Garcia Orra S30. For 70 bucks you really can't go wrong. Smooth as butter and really well built reel.
My vote would be the Symetre, you can find them for under a 100 easily.
Buy a Pfluegar President and use the extra money you saved to buy line for it and some baits to fish with it
You want a reel that will knock your socks off?
Try a Tokushima
I am buying them right now for less than $40.00 each. Blows a president away- and I have 4 presidents, and they along with some of my shimano stradics are being put into a box right now while I buy more Tokushima reels.
President reels have like 10 ball bearings, and this reel has like 13 or 14 ball bearings and has a super free movement better than a president and is cheaper too!
If you hold one of these in your hand and move the handle to the up position and turn it loose, it will swing back and forth like a swing much long than any stradic or president I have. Super smooth, well built, cheap, and looks great too!
Buy yourself a Tokushima HK-3000 for $40.00 on aliexpress. You won't regret it. Oh, and if you buy one, Tokushima has a unique oscillation gear in these reels that makes the spool move in and out much slower than all other reels. Tokushima calls it parallel line lay, and it is pretty neat and works great. So don't think the reel is broken because the spool does not move as fast. And you can tie any superline direct to the spool with no need of backing- unless you want backing line, but these spools are designed to take superlines without backing line.
There have been some very good deals on Pflueger Supreme mg, as good as any reel in the price range, but really just about any 75-100 MSRP reel will perform just fine. I would not recommend buying a used reel in this price range, if not off warranty it will be soon. You may get a good reel or you may not, not worth the gamble IMO.
Also for the price of an ugly stick I would probably be looking at another option that would be more suitable for bass fishing.

I would be VERY leery of a $40 Chinese reel. We have a couple of members that jumped on the bandwagon
last year, but they never followed-up with a review. Buyer beware.

Pflueger president reels are made in China! So are most of the parts for Shimano made in China, Singapore, and Malaysia.
I got this reel last season. I used it for fishing yesterday now in season two. Works great. Every bit as good or better than any president I own. I was told on another forum this same reel was marketed through cabelas a couple of years ago for around $130.00, so that puts it in a class well above any president reel.
For $40.00 how can you go wrong? I would not recommend it if it were a piece of junk. I have worked on reels for near 35 years. I have seen some junk in my day. And this is one reel I would not call junk. And for $40.00 what is there to be aware of other than a good deal? If you like president reels, you will like this one better is all I am saying. Give it a chance and save some dollars too.

The Pfluegar President 6900 series? Would this be the real you are talking about.
The 69's if you go with a newer one. I have several older 67's and several newer 69's and I like the 67's better, but that is just my personal preference based on several years of using them.
My all time favorite president is the 6735 and 6740 which are the same reel with different size spools.
And don't use a president in or near salt water as they are not made for it.
I am sure whatever you decide to go with you will have a lot of fun.
The pfleuger spinning reels get great reviews on here. Id say you cant go wrong withe the supreme or president. Personally i like the lews reels. You could get a tournament hs spin for 80 or a team gold for 130. I have both and love them. The team gold is a little lighter and smoother, but both have great drags and are light for their size. If i was in your shoes id look at getting a president or the old model daiwa exceller(ive seen it on sale as low as $42!) And its a great reel, and then using the rest of what i had to spend on a more sensitive rod. Dont get me wrong i have an ugly stick and like it for catfish and some treble hook baits, but i wouldnt want it to be my all around spinning rod. Not enough feel for me

That is the only downside to the Ugly stick is being fiberglass and pretty heavy all around I feel as though I cut my sensitivity and bottom feel down a lot. What would you recommend for a rod? I know graphite is the way to go. I also have a bait casting setup for my heavier T rigs and Jigs that I have on a 7ft MH ugly stick.
Shimano Sedona $60
You'll throw rocks at the rest
I've been looking for the same thing and decided on a Penn Battle II 3000 because it's also built for inshore saltwater as well. All of the reels mentioned above are great reels though. If I found a stradic for a hundred bucks it would be hard to pass up.
I really like the Daiwa Exceller. Its a smooth reel. Been using it for a few years now and its done nothing but catch fish.
Shimano Symetre.
If you wanted to stay at $100 for the combo and bought a reel like the president, previous gen exceller or abu orra s then you would still have around 50 for a rod. Id take the reel with me to a store like bass pro or another store and see what rods it felt good on. My favorite in that price range is a berkley lightning rod or powell deisel. I got my powell for right at 50 bucks and its awesome for that price. Id try out the way a rod felt in my hands if possible, then buy it online. Ffo-tackle online has some great deals and cheap shipping and *** will match anyones price and give you free shipping on anything over 50. Id look at used stuff in the flea market too. Ive gotten some great deals off there
I'm mostly a Shimano guy, but I would also recommend
you consider a Daiwa Lexa spinning reel in addition to the
Symetre, President, etc. already recommended.
You really want to get to a store near you and try each reel
out on the rod you mention. You will get a nice feel for each
one and if you can't decide, flip a coin!
Plenty of good reels out there at that price point.

Yes, the 6930 is my favorite size for bass but the 6925 is good for finesse applications.
As many have mentioned, there are a lot of options for good spinning reels in that $100 price range. However, let's talk about the rod. You may want to consider upgrading that a bit as I think you will benefit greater from a different rod than a nice spinning on your current rod.
I am hearing good claims of the new Okuma Ceymar ($50.00) spinning reel ... lots of bang for the buck .

This
I just posted this comment in another post response above, and I stand by it:
"I've always been a big Shimano fan. I own several of the Sahara & Symetre models. However, since last purchasing a Pflueger President, I'm changing my mind. The Shimanos are becoming increasingly expensive. The President can be found for under $50.00, which, to me, is simply amazing. The reel is extremely smooth (you just cannot feel any gear teeth on retrieve) and the drag is excellent. I've only had it for one full season, so I can't speak for it's durability - yet. I do believe I will be picking up a couple of more of these Presidents this season."
