i just recently switched to braid on my spinning reel and my quesiton is what in your guys opinions is your favorite fluro leader im using 20# braid so an 8# fluro leader would be what im using i have p line fluroclear on right now but want something a little better any suggestions would be great

I dont use fluoro, I use YoZuri, its stronger and more abrasion resiatant.

Wow! I'm absolutely shocked to hear that people hate P-Line. They are the only company I buy copoly and fluoro from. So my suggestion goes completely against the grain here so far but here goes. I use a 15# fluoro leader on my spinning rod with 20# braided main line. I don't seem to have any trouble getting bites using this heavy a leader but the lakes I fish have a green tint to them year round. Anytime I'm using fluoro these days it's either P-Line 100% or Halo, nothing else.
I know this is not what you asked but I just wantd to say that the only line I use other than their fluoro is P-Line CXX. I used to use their braid but I can't find it locally anymore and don't want to go through the hassle of mail ordering it so I switched to Power Pro. I've tried a bunch of different brands of line and always come back to P-Line. The small tackle shop in my town told me they sell twice as much P-Line as anything else. Off the top of my head I know they carry Berkley, Stren, Vicious, and maybe one more. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

yeah i always used p line or yo zuri and i havent tried the p line 100% fluro but i heard mixed about the berkley 100% from people

thats odd, where I worked we sold Berkley line 30 to 1 over p line. The only guy that bought it would spool up 3 or 4 reels with it.

Really? Have you fished the berkley 100% yet? It doesnt stretch and it also doesnt coil up like other line, its also very relaxed .

Actual Seaguar fluorocarbon leader material. The clarity/abrasion resistance/strength are awesome. Its also pretty cheap.
There are tradeoffs to making fluorocarbon behave itself on a reel, the leader material doesn't have to make these concessions. If your looking to throw top waters also, I've used Yozuri Hybrid in 12lb test with good results.

I like the Berkley 100% as a main line, but its best quality is manageability. To me it doesn't have great knot strength or abrasion resistance(good just not great.
Vicious elite on the other hand I dislike as main line because of its handeling and it always coils. I was thinking of using it this year as a leader because there is no doubt it is very strong with great knot strength and excellent abrasion resistance.
The suggestion of seaguar actual leader material is also a good one. Thought of trying that also this year.

I use 12 lb Seaguar Red Label as my leader material when using braid. I tie the two lines using a double surgeons knot with a san diego jam knot tied to my lure. As with all flouro, you need to check the leader for knicks frequently and trim and re tie as needed.

Berkely %100 is my favorite flouro. I tried a the 10 and 12lb small spools they have (or had) at Walmart and was surprised how strong it was. For example on how it's strength per ddiameter is, I was setting the hook on 6 and 7 pounders like I was using 15 plus using a variety of "big fish baits" like a 1/2 football head, 10 inch worms and even 15 inch worms. Also, the pond I fished had muscle shell beds in it too. Just throwing that out there.

Why 8lb leader with 20lb braid? Where I fish, I'd loose almost every lure.

I hear great things about the sunline sniper but i love the p-line flouroclear in the green mist color. I use the 6,8, and 10lb for all my finesse fishing and its great, plus its cheap.

the reason i use 8# is same diameter as 20# and i wanna try sunline but the price tag is just a hassle and p line has been working out for me pretty well

P-Line is my go to line of choice, in fact it's the only brand I use for fluoro or copoly, but I just find fluoroclear to have way to much stretch therefore killing the sensitivity. I just don't understand why you wouldn't use the most sensitive option available since it's a leader you don't have to worry about manageability issues. Just my .02 cents, everyone's opinions are different.

I use 15# braid on my spinning gear with a 20# p-line floroclear leader. I need a bit heavier leader to hoist fish out of my high banked canals, after much experimenting over the years this formula has worked quite well for me. I use the floroclear for 2 basic reasons, I have many spools that have quite a bit of line remaining as I won't add line to any offshore set up, it's always a fresh spool of line, no exceptions. Secondly as leader it works well in freshwater and on some of my lighter inshore setups, but I have switched to other alternatives, mainly because I do not like co poly for a mainline. The coiling can be an issue, a fairly easy way to overcome it is to use lighter line, don't overfill the spool and soak your line in warm water, if it's already on your reel just take the spool off and soak it in the sink. I think fresh leaders and knots are best anyway, so there is no real effort involved in removing your spool for soaking.
I have totally gotten away from F/C leaders, I haven't found they produced more fish even with species that are considered to be very line shy, I don't find bass to be overly line shy.

so in other words use a heavier # leader and just go straight f/c? has anyone use seaguar invisx? cause it looked like it got great reviews and i was thinking about using 12# since ill mainly be using it for crik smallies and ponds and some small lakes and of course the river and i dont want anything super heavy since im mainly throwing lighter baits

I switched to Seaguar Red label last year for my leader material after using Berkley Trilene 100% fluoro, and Vanish for a long time. Never had any issues with either of the Berkley lines (as leader material), but found the Seaguar better than both. It's a little more $$ than Vanish, but cheaper then the Trilene fluoro. But seeing as I only use it for leaders, a 200yd spool lasts me a long time. The things I liked about the Seaguar better than either of the Berkley lines was #1 it was more abbrasion resistant than Vanish, and just as good, if not better than the Trilene, #2 it is more sensitive than either of them, #3 it is less visable under water (at least to me, I have no clue how fish see it, but it makes me feel better) than both. #4, it's smaller diameter line compaired to equal lb tests of the Trilene. And #5, I have had zero knot issues with it (that were not my own fault for tying bad knots in the first place).

Trilene 100% is my fluoro of choice, but I also sometimes use 6-8# Yo-Zuri Hybrid for leaders with braid and spinning tackle. You don't need to use fluoro; you just want something that's less visible than the braid. The difference in sensitivity between 6' of fluoro and 6' of Hybrid or mono is negligible.

i know ive used all types of lines thats why i wanna go to straight f/c for the little stretch and sensitivity i got the fluroclear cause the whole price aspect for time being

You just have to experiment to find what works best for you on the water that you fish. These posts are good starting point.

I think Sunline is worth the extra money. But WW2farmer is on the money with the Seaguar Red Label. Its the first floro i ever tried and it didnt scare me away from using floro. It's good line and is a lot cheaper than Sunline. In fact I think you get more on the spool at half of the price. A 200 yard spool will last a looking time if you are just using it for leaders and not mainline

i went to bps and bought a spool of seaguar red label hit it up with some line conditioner and i guess well see how it works out
