RICK CLunn Reels ?? 2025

I bought 4 Rick Clunn reels when they were on sale for 69$....
Do you think i should take these back and save the money and step up and buy some better reels... But man they sure are smooth, and throw spinnerbaits and cranks and country mile, and the ones i have on my flippin rods are smooth too
anyway what would you do?? :-? :-?

The Clunn reel is a a good reel, I don't think I would have bought 4 but the are descent reels.

Man, if they suit you and you like them, why buy something else?
If they are good enough for the best bass fisherman on the planet then they should serve you well too.

Meaningless. For $50,000 everyone on this Forum would fish any
reel they were paid to promote, regardless of good or bad. Just
about every reel looks and feels good right out of the box. That
too is meaningless.

I have a 4 year old Rick Clunn, the same on you bought. The reel is absolutely flawless. I use it a lot less than my Trions but the guy i got it from punished it for 2 years. The Shemano guys do all they can to convince anyone that any other brand is worthless, that could not be more from the truth

don't get me wrong...they are good reels...just personally I couldn't buy 4 reels for 70 bucks when I could use tht money to buy somem patriarchs...if you like them, fish them....has nothing to do with anyone else but you....the seem like they will hold up.

Althought, Rick is the only one that I've seen actually use his signature series rod and reels and with his BPS sponsorship he could be using any of the BP reels. KVD doesn't use his sig. series Quatums.
But I do agree with you in that every brand new reel feels smooth. And yes I would use anything for $50,000.00!!

For what it's worth, I happen to know Rick Clunn is VERY involved in the development of his rods & reels.
On a side note, I happen to have both a Curado, and a Clunn reel that are the same age (about 6 years old) and have the same usage. Haven't had a problem with either. I do like the Curado a little more, but it was a little more expensive. With my newer reels, these guys are typically just back-ups now.

I disagree. I would have a very hard time promoting a product I did not believe in, no matter how much I was offered, and I'm sure I'm not the only one on here who feels the same way. That being said, I have never been in that situation so I can't say for sure how I would react, and I also believe that all of the major reel companies have good products, BPS included.

I 'd rather have 1 good reel than a bunch of regular ones. From all the reels I 've owned two stand above anything I 've used and owned:
Abu Garcia XLT Plus ( more than 2 decades old ) for almost a decade I used those reels for everything, now they are relegated to do even nastier jobs than before, now they are my swimbait reels.
Shimano Curado 200B, bought my first one in 1993-1994 ( ? ) and to a certain point it took over the place of one of the Abus as my main reel.
I have added other reels to my arsenal as the years have gone by, but those have stand against everything I 've thrown at them.
Money wise, they have been the best investment I 've ever made.
The Curado cost 120, divide it by 14 = $8.57 per year
The XLT cost 90 ( big bucks on those days ), divide let 's say by 20 = $4.5 per year
I spend more than that just in hooks.

WHOOP DEE DEE!!!!!!!!!!!!! What about a Trion costing 99 and lasts just as long, or a Revo at 129, don't give me they don't last as long as a Curado, Have you fished them both? Shemano is not the only good, reliable and dependable reel on the market

Well lets talk shimano for a second!!! I have 2 old green curado 200's (about 8 years old) and i have 2 citicas ( year old or so) and i will say this they are good reels, tough and solid but they dont make me wanna go buy more ;D LOL!!!!! I also have a couple abu 4600 C3's that still take the beating 
.... from comparing the bps and shimanos i have... the Bps seem smoother and i like the adjustment outside the reel.. Heck they all catch fish..... as long as they work its fine with me.... I'll just keep them and show people how good they are!!! 
and just spend the extra money on The St. croix rods or loomis rods :o

It's not as though there's a single Pflueger factory, or a single Shimano factory etc. I do know that when Garcia introduced the Revo reels, they were made at the same factory BPS was using for at least some of their reels. If you ever see reels while they're still in their factory cases, you can usually tell which factory they were made at.

You guys kill me with all the bickering about which reel company is best. I have owned and used them all! Right now I have 15 Shimano's all new of course, 5 Daiwa's, 4 Quantum's, 2 Pflueger's, 2 ABU's, and 2 BPS reels.
All and all for the average weekend angler any reel will work well for many years as long as it is taken care of properly. To each angler his own. Hope you enjoy the Clunn's!!!!

I've got a two year old Clunn reel that has been used a lot and is still very smooth. My son uses it now. I went to BPS today looking for something in the $120 or less range. I finally decided on another Clunn reel and think I'm going to be happy with my purchase. If you're happy with the reels, then use them. The only person you have to please is yourself. The rest of us don't count.

The Clunn was my very first baitcaster. And may I say that it served me well, and I still have the reel. Now that being said I no longer by BPS reels. I mainly go with Diawa higher end products. I also own a couple shimanos. Its all up to the person and how much money you are willing to spend. 8-)
