Anyone have any experience with these new white Dockett Rods. A friend of mine has broken two of them in the last month while fighting fish. The last one broke while fighting a three pounder. Are they just junk? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Not good to hear was going to be picking one up in the morning, have heard they are very sensitive, my only concern was with the guides and grooving with braided line frog fishing. No forum really gives a definite answer.
I Have The First Production Duckett Rods , Never Had A Issue , I'm Thinking A Bad Run Of Blanks ?
Your Friend Knows To Get Them Replaced , First Year (Free) After One Year , I Think It's $30.
Mike
Don't know what your friend is doing for them to break. I have several Micro Magic's and have never had any trouble with any of them. He may have banged them around previously and had nicks in them that finally gave way. That is only a guess though.
I have a 7'3" mh micro magic and I love that rod. I haven't been gentle with it, it has seen it's share of super hard hook sets and it hasn't broke yet. It's really light and sensitive with good backbone, but enough tip to throw weightless senkos. As long as you take care of them and don't bang them around they are awesome.
Well thats good about the no grooving guides with braid. Going to get one, What ive learned is all of these light weight graphite rods from every company will break if they are not treated very good. Have broke several, and want to blame the manufactures but its more than likely nicking the blank and not realizing it.
On these ducketts is it true that a meduim heavy fishes like a medium, heavy like a meduim heavy etc etc
If a rod breaks within the first few times of use it could be defect. After that it's most likely user error. These modern rods are a lot more fragile than some people realize. All it takes is a little knick or chip in the blank and that could do it.
Never fished the Duckett rods personally but have buddies who use them with zero problems.
Rods are made in China, trucked to the coast of, loaded on ships, sail across the oceans, unloaded on west coast, USA .. Trucked all over, sent to distribution centers and sent out again... Rods have traveled thousands of miles, bumped, banged, clanged. All before ever being put into the hand of the angler... It ain't the fisherman!
I have every kind of duckett rod from ghost to macro to micro magic to white ice ... I really like the rod for the price point .. I have broken two ... One I broke it all on my own in the house... And the other was a new medium spinning that broke .. In any case I had both rods back within the week... They are very sensitive and appear light in rating... UNTIL a fish in on the line ... Then they shine ... I think the popularity of them online is a gift and a curse for them ... But Id tell anyone to get one .. And I wasn't discouraged by one rod break ... Great customer service ensured that. If he's breaking them while fighting fish I have to ask the variables
I think there good rods. But then again I've never used em.
I watched a guy break two ghosts in a day frog fishing. 7' 3" heavy exploded like a twig. I wouldn't buy one.
I think they are great rods. the only issues I have are the butts are to long on them for my liking and I have a hell of a time threading their micro guides.
I liked mine, snapped about 4 inches down from the tip when I made my first cast of the morning last Wednesday. I was throwing a 1/2 oz spinnerbait and it just snapped while I made that first cast. Super weird, now its on its way to duckett, kinda a pain lol. I do really like the actions of the micro magic rods, but I love my St. Croix Avid X, which I will be buying more off
Guys thanks for responding. I watched this guy break two of these rods in month. One rod a micro guide broke off and separated from the rod. The second one he was fighting a 3 pounder in the pads and the rod snapped 4 inches from the tip. The tip felt awfully soft from the beginning. I have no faith in the Dockett Rod durability, especially with these micro guides.

It is just another rod bashing post.

What makes micro guides bad?
If you have a problem with a product, raise that issue with the manufacturer. We aren't the venue for these issues. See the Forum Rules and FAQs for details.
I bought one last year, and after I brought it home I found that one of the guides was lacquered shut. Quality control issue. Brought it back to BPS and got a St. Croix.
Have owned many rods....Loomis, Lamiglas, Fenwick, Shimano, and lately a Ghost. Has caught many...many smallies...love the lightness and power. Oh...have in my over fifty years of fishing managed to break em all at least once for some reason or another!
I have a duckett cranking rod and a 7' heavy micro magic. My dad has 18 Ducketts we have only broke 2. Best rods out there. I've have been very rough on my ghost cranking rod, and it still goes every time
This isn't a rod bashing post. Most members simply aren't a fan of duckett rods!On 3/25/2015 at 9:48 AM, SenkoGuru said:It is just another rod bashing post.
No, mostly it's just this thread. You can find haters for EVERY brand of you look hard enough. One of our former mods switched from Dobyns to Primarily Ducketts. He wasn't paid for it either. They work for him.
No matter what it always comes down to personal preference. No 2 people are ever gonna see eye to eye on anything! That's why in the day of the indian there was scouts, hunters, warriors and 1 CHIEF.
The reason for the post was not to bash the rod, but rather to see if other members were having similar problems with this rod. It is apparent after reading all the posts that a some have had problems. I have had other rods break over the years, but never two rods that both broke on their maiden voyage in a one month span of time. Although some may love these rods, it seems a number have had problems. As for micro guides, I tried them on a carbonlite rods and I broke off a guide, and my friend did the same thing on one of the Dockett Rods. I'm done with micro guides, and I'm done with this post. Sorry if any of these rod users were offended.

Im not bashing, just giving my opinion. I really like the micro magic, but I won't be buying more of them. Seems like whenever something comes up about duckett that not in line with your views on the rod its always "bashing" with you. Sometimes rods just break, it happens! The guy asked for my opinion, and I gave it
Looks like we're done here, save for the last minute - last words.
OP, yes others have had issue with the rods, just like others have had issues with every other brand out there.
