Revo Sx 7:1.1 Need Advice On New Rod ? 2025

fishing user avatarKDW96 reply :

Hi everyone-

I recently got a new REVO SX 7:1.1 as a gift. Now i need a rod to keep it company. My options are limited to what my walmart has.

               1. Berkley Shock Rod.

               2. Abu Vendetta or Vengence(cant remember).

               3. Shimano Sellus.

Ive never had a reel this light and compact. What would your recommendations be of these 3? And what would you use this set up for? Thank you all for your time .

fishing user avatarKDW96 reply :

Reason for requiring walmart is i got gift cards, and thats what im using them on.

fishing user avatarSodus Bay Scooter reply :

If you go online, Walmart has even more options including an excellent deal on the veritas microguide rod for 70$. I have that rod and it's awesome. Super light and well balanced. I have it paired with the gen 3 revo s.

Keep in mind that any Abu Garcia rod or reel comes with a no questions asked 3 year warranty. Three years of peace of mind is nice.

fishing user avatarKDW96 reply :

thanks ill check it out.anyone else?

fishing user avatarDiggy reply :

whats the budget

veritas would be my 1st choice for 70(ship to store)...cons,,,,none in store, you can bring your reel to dicks/bps/etc and see how it looks feels....cover the reel's feet with tape because it may scratch from the nut on the reel seat

vendetta will match well and feel balanced...its supposed to be factory balanced to the revo....I have a gen 2 revo and gen 2 vendetta but I put it onto the veritas instead even tho it looked sexy

Shock is the least expensive, may be a bit heavier than the other choices but you can bring your reel into the store and see how it looks and feels..Id rather this than the vengeance

Sellus is pretty decent, didnt know they had them at walmart. I had a crank bait rod once upon a time

fishing user avatarTNBassin' reply :

Vendetta for sure. Most of the "old" vendettas are marked down now, so that's a plus.

fishing user avatarLgMouthGambler reply :

Put it on a Vendetta, looks awesome together.

fishing user avatarBassingNick reply :

Throw it on the Vendetta and call it a day.

fishing user avatarRyneB reply :

i know your looking at a certain price range. But i paired my SX with a Phenix Recon and its a match made in heaven.

fishing user avatarBassinLou reply :

Walmart also carries the falcon bucco rods and those looked and felt good to me also.

Agreed.

fishing user avatarTeal reply :

Vendetta. You can always upgrade later. The vendetta will serve you well. And like the others said, it will look awesome too!

fishing user avatarKDW96 reply :

I highly recommend taking the reel you have and trying it on several rods. It makes a huge difference in the feel

This is true. The feel of the bps carbonlite I bought last year was totally different on the bps carbonlite rod than the veritas. I went with the veritas because of where the reel sat on the reel seat.

Use the Walmart cards for your groceries, then take your grocery money and go to BPS, Cabelas, or wherever. Opens up more options.

We are not assuming he has money to blow, just swapping the value of gift cards for the same amount in cash.

which he already stated that he was spending it on fishing tackle.

You're okay, and a citica is a great reel. I am sorry if that came off sounding condescending or critical.

I sure did not mean it that way

No you aren't, I didnt mean to sound like a d-bag towards you nor the other poster I quoted. I overlooked that part of him spending money on baits, mainly because of tears in my eyes from my broken rods. Lets all carry on.

fishing user avatarupnorthbassin reply :

Just to let people know...the $70 Veritas micro/winch at Walmart deal went away a few weeks ago. They are all $100 now.

fishing user avatarDramer77 reply :

id go falkon bucoo over a vendetta

fishing user avatarJig Meister reply :

FWIW, The vendettas are great rods. I use them for all my setups because they are under 100 and are built well and offer a good feel. I think you will be nice and surprised with how well the rods perform. They are on the stiffer side, the MH are awesome, and the Medium is also worth checking out. I only have fast tips so I cant comment on any other action.
