Reel Spray 2025

In the past I have never used any type of spray on my reels so I dont no much about them but I think I need to buy some. I am looking for something you can spray all over the reel and line without it hurting anything. I you have any suggestions on what I should buy Id love to hear them. thanks.

Do you spray it on and wipe it off, or leave it on?

Is this the same stuff that after you rinse your reel off after using it, you can spray on, or should I use something different for that too?

It helps. Instead of dropping $6 on a bottle of Real Magic, grab a can of silicone spray at an autoparts store.

Got a can of CRC silicone spray for $3, twice the size of the usual can of Real Magic.

I work at a car shop, so I have silicone spray at my hands anytime. Is this the same as Reel Magic, or it just does the same thing?

Is this for after rinsing your reel under water after each use (as recommended by shimano and abu)? Or is this just to do some other time?

and does silicone have any affect on line?

Dude, I'm asking, what I SHOULD put on it. The directions says to spray something on a cloth, and then apply to the reel after each use.

I am asking what I can use for that.

Is that put simply enough? If you can't answer that question, don't bother responding. I've asked the same question twice, in which you gave a smart *** response, instead of simply giving me an answer. If you don't know, that's alright, but quit with your smart *** remarks.

Spray it on the line. If you want to dunk a reel or spray it off, tear it down afterward and relube. I don't know how much less of a 'smart ***' I can be.

We spray the whole reel with it. I know it says to apply with a cloth, call us lazy, all I know is the stuff works, lol

This is the one I have been using lately just b/c I got a few bottles on a promotion, I see a clear improvement on line loops in spinning reels but I'm not that impress with baitcasters.

I don't wipe anything off ( in the bottle instructions said to let it dry ), just spray the spool. It is not a reel lubricant at all.

A lot of anglers read this and think it will improve my casting distance because it will lube the reel along with the line. Wrong the only thing that will improve the casting distance in a BC reel is the cleanliness and the quality of the spool support bearings, and this stuff isn't a bearing lube....

Why are you rinsing your reels??? Are you dumping them into the water to free up your casting distance. Have you dropped them into the deep mud? You don't rinse a freshwater reel with water. In the reel's manual they should be stating you rinse any freshwater reel that has been used in any brackish/salty fishing environments, then dry until you can breakdown the reel and service it immediately each time used in this environment.

KVD' line conditioner, is just that a conditioner for the line nothing more. There are only 2 lubricants that should be used in a freshwater fishing reel, a quality oil and gear grease, and should only be used in the proper places in the reel.

I've tried it. I see no evidence that it does anything at all about line memory. It may help casting a tiny bit by reducing friction between line and guides, but what little it improvement it provides is gone as soon as it's washed off; which doesn't take long. I've used it on reels. It may help protect the finish somewhat. But only between uses. The first time you put the reel in your palm it will feel a bit slick, but it wears off quickly, so the protection is very short lived.

This stuff should be kept out of your reels. Gears need grease and everything else needs oil. Nothing inside your reels needs silicone spray.

I do use it to clean my rods and guides. It works pretty well for that. A shot on a q-tip will clean up rod guides very easily. The can I have will last a long time for that. I won't be buying another. I'll go to wally world and pick a can of silicone spray. Three times as much, for half the price.

I'll tell what it's really good for. Spray down the weather strip around your car's doors with this stuff. It makes them a lot easier to open when the ice storm hits.

I like Real Magic. I don't use it as a lubricant - it's not intended to be a lubricant. However, it has its uses.

I do mist my reels with it then wipe it off with a soft cloth. It really removes the finger prints and smudges on all the bling they stick on reels these days.

I spray my plastic baits, spinnerbaits and jigs with it. It does prevent sticking as advertised. It also makes dried on grass (inevitiable when fishing grassy areas) come right off.

I spray hooks, swivels and such with it. Real Magic is a good dry corrosion inhibitor.

Real Magic is a water repellant. I spay it marabou jigs to return them to their fluffy, feathery state after use. Otherwise, letting them simply dry causes the feather to become stiff and hard.

Real Magic ain't magic, but it has its uses.

Good point.....it also works well at the joints of hard swimbaits.

I have not tried Reel/Real Magic. It looks like a snake oil product that claims to fix everything.

I have tried a sample of KVD stuff and was impressed. It made the line on my spinning reel limper, and it increased my casting distance but only by a small amount. Personal opinion, keeping fresh line on your reels and performing proper maintenance works better.
