when ever you push the evelope on a rods weight limit your asking for unpleasent things to happen . if you plan on getting a swimbait rod , get one that has a rating that meets or exceeds the lure weight you are or gonna use . if that means getting a different rod so be it . if your throwing BIG swimbaits get an OKUMA , the XH model has a lure rating up to 8 oz. , if you are gonna use HUGE swimbaits , POWELL  makes a rod to handle up to 16 oz. !!!! so search wisely before making your purchases ...........  ;)

fishing user avatarT-rig reply :

I'm not going to cast more then 4oz. with it, but alot of swimbait rods are overrated. I want something that casts up to 4oz. not a pool cue.

fishing user avatarBig Bait Fishing reply :

get an OKUMA ''heavy'' or the ''med.heavy'' ......  http://www.***.com/descpageRDCOKUMA-OGSBBR.html

fishing user avatarT-rig reply :

I'm not interested in a okuma rod. I just would like some info on the St. Croix.

fishing user avatarwisturkeyhunter reply :

I've held several different models of the mojo's in my hand don't remember if I held the swimbait but they all kinda feld strange to me. Just something about them felt different and I like St. Croix rods. There new legend extreme is sweet though. I know I wasn't much help. Good luck. I may be stopping at the st. croix shop this weekend and I'll talk to the guys there about it if I do.

That's what I was thinking  ;).  I've liked the looks of the Mojo bass Croix rods since Tackle Tour showed the first pics a while back.   I haven't heard one report on the rods yet, but they did just ship to dealers about 2 weeks ago.

fishing user avatarDan: reply :

If anyone has any experience with these rods or gets their hands on one, I'd like to hear about it. I'm curious about how they may be different from the Premiers besides the split grip.

fishing user avatarfirefightn15 reply :

Sometime before freeze over, I'm gonna try and have one.  For the money, I don't think there's gonna be a lot of disappointment.  Really looking forward to giving this rod a shot.

As a builder that builds with RM exclusively on the St.Croix blanks. The Mojo rods are just a premiere with a new finish color (black cherry), the guides are the same Batson Aluminum Oxide, only difference is the split grip get into a premiere series rod. The splits use to only start with the Avid on up to Legends.

We have been building rods like these for better than 2 years now....Only spiraled for efficiency!

;)

Yep...same SCII blank, but in some new tapers. We all know that sweet purple finish will result in more fish...guaranteed!

Got home today and my  mhf 7' was sittin' there waiting.  Sweet was my first thought, but it even got better when I saddled up a Revo sx.  Whether or not I catch anything with it is debatable, but I'm gonna look good tryin' 8-)

It's a little heavy forward, but I think for it's build I'll be o.k. with it.  More backbone than I thought it would have.  Was initially sorry that I didn't go with the hf, but after toying with the rod this evening, the mhf is gonna fit my bill.  I wish I knew as much about rods as many of you here on this site, but I don't.   I do know I like the rod.  Gonna head to the river tommorrow and check it out  between snows flakes.

T-rig, I know this is apples to oranges with the rod you were asking about, but man, I can't see where the 79hf is gonna foul you.  Another thing in regards to St. Croixs' statement that their target group was the young anglers.  What's young?  If it looks good, feels good and preforms well, how young do you have to be to have one?

Anyhow, that's my take until I get to the river tomm.  Later, ff15

Young? I'm almost 40 but I still bought one. ;D

Looks great T-Rig.  I'll be curious to know how it ends up loading with the 2-4 oz baits.

fishing user avatarDan: reply :

they are sweet looking rods, no doubt.

fishing user avatarddigit reply :

Found out today from St.Croix® that the Mojo rods are imports, they wouldn't say from where but we knew they had bought a new factory either in China or Mexico. They aren't a step down in the Premiere series but a step up in the Triumph series.

Good Luck & Tight Lines!    ;)

fishing user avatarfirefightn15 reply :

Makes sense.  TT says they are made in N. America, but doesn't say made in USA.  Only had a chance to make a few casts yesterday but the mhf70 loaded up nicely with room to spare.  I was happy with the rod.  Hoping is does well in the weeds.

Looking forward to T-rig's feedback.

fishing user avatarCravin reply :

I'm reviving this thread to see if I could get some feed back.

T-Rig and firefightin15 did you get a chance to fish this rod yet?

I went to BPS to pick up a Compre or Extreme for my new Curado E7 and walked out with this Mojo Bass in a 6'6 MHF, I just loved the feel of this rod! I guess it will end up paired with my SX so it don't look too crazy but all i can say is WOW this feels and looks like a good one.

Anyone else have this rod and what do you think about it?

fishing user avatarfirefightn15 reply :

Only had a chance to make a few casts before the water got hard.  I have the 7' MHF and am patiently waiting for spring now.  Others might give you very good argument as to why you might have went with a different rod, but as for me, I liked the design, cosmetics, and it fit my budget.  I was happy with the few casts that I was able to make, but as I said, the rod seemed a bit forward heavy.  With a mhf it was somewhat expected, but for me it's managable.

I put it under a sx also and it looks sweet!

fishing user avatarfirefightn15 reply :

Pgersumky, here's the picks you wanted. Took a couple with the sx and winch. Gotta laugh, mine looks like an ultra light compared to T-rigs'. Can't wait for spring.

Sorry, the camera don't do it justice!

fishing user avatarTin reply :

I can't stand Croix. But for the price and weight I was really impressed with this rod when I messed around with it at BPS.

fishing user avatarfirefightn15 reply :

I wouldn't say that I am brand loyal, because I do have other rods, but they started out building St. Croix about 10 miles from me.  I guess in my neck of the woods, St. Croix is kind of a  staple.

fishing user avatarThe Next KVD reply :

I just put in an order for the swimbait rod.  Can't wait to try it out, unfortunatley I'll have to wait till late April/Early May for the ice to melt. :'( On the bright side I got a sexy new St. Croix ;D

fishing user avatarCravin reply :

Man thats a great looking rod, Glad I got one too! Is that Cajun Red line?

fishing user avatarfirefightn15 reply :

Yea, that's cajun.  I figure on bad days, I can at least try and look good.
