Has anyone used the new St Croix Mojo Rods with the upgraded SCIII opposed to the previous SCII? I would really like to hear a review. Just from holding them in store they look and feel good. Lighter than the previous model. Interested in others thoughts.
I've got two on the way that I'm getting in exchange for a couple Rage rods that had messed up reel seats, 7'1" MH/F and 7'6" MH/MF. Hoping to get them today. As long as I get them by Friday I'll be able to put them to the test on Saturday. I'll post a review as soon as I do.
Just out of curiosity, did you handle one of the 6'10" ML/XF spinning rods?
No. The two I held was the 6'8 MXF casting and 7' MF casting. What sparked my interest is that I already own a 6'8 MXF in an Avid X and the Mojo was oddly very similar feel.
I have the 6' 10" ML/XF that I use for casting dropshots and I love it, great rod for a good price.
I got the Mojo Bass Glass M / M 6'10" on Friday and fished it Saturday and Sunday. Wow - love it. It was between that and the Loomis E6X crankbait road, but there is simply no comparison - the Loomis is closer to a ML than a M. The MBG is a perfect medium, and $50 less - it was a no-brainer for me. And I'm extremely pleased. I fished it with a Revo SX Gen3 6.4:1, and H2O Xpress jointed square bills. I could feel every tick, every stump, grass, etc. The leaves are starting to fall around here and I was picking up quite a few of them, and you could tell immediately when you snagged one, no matter how small - it just went dead on you. Conversely, you could tell immediately when you had a strike. I caught probably 15 small-ish spots this weeklend, loading the road up a few times; I probably only lost three...not sure if it was from setting the hook too hard or what (user error is not out of the question), but I am supremely impressed with this rig, especially for the money.

They should feel pretty similar, I would imagine. The blanks should be pretty close to the same, if not the same now that the Mojo uses SC3.
The blanks are the same as the rage blanks now. As per my local rep.
Sc3 is my favorite blank to build on. I have to say with the price of these rods it almost makes building your own rods pointless.
These are going to be a steal. Considering guides, cork, handle, and the time it takes to build a rod; it's amazing they can offer these rods at this price point.
I guess it goes to show the power of economies of scale. I will definetly pick one up during a sale.

They should feel very similar, their blanks are close to the same if not exactly the same.

haha must have missed that comment, oh well you know what they say...great minds think alike
Got them last night. They feel VERY nice. Balanced and lightweight, compared it to my Rage and it feels lighter. Although the rage in the same size and power was 5.1 and St Croix's site says the new Mojo is 4.2, so it would make sense that if feels lighter.
I really want to try the fly rods in the mojo series.
What kind of guides are on the Mojo's?
Kigan Master Hand 3D guides
Dam now I have to buy a couple of these new rods!!
Anyone got one of these rods yet? I'm still waiting on Cabelas or Dick's to start carrying the new rods so I can get my hands on one.

See above post.
cbass12, which rod did you get? I was wondering if they were less tip heavy.
I got my hands on these at BPS. This is going to be a very robust and hyper competitive rod in the slightly over $100 category. I predict the St. Croix Mojo yo be a grand slam home run.
I have to agree they do feel awesome!
All this talk has me interested in checking one of these out. At the very least handling one in store just to see how they feel. I was not a fan at all of the old mojo bass rods and there were many far superior rods oh could buy and for less.
I got rid of my old Mojo rod because it was so tip heavy. I did like the finish on it and the cork seemed quality for $100. Of course, a buddy of mine picked mine up from the factory in WI for $20. It was a 7' crankbait model with a broken tip that they replaced. When I got it it was about 6'9".
Is the mojo a splt grip avid
Or....
Is the avid now a full grip mojo??
Whoa...

The Mojo is built on the same blank as the Avid, but has slightly cheaper components and is made in Mexico. A split grip Avid is an Avid X

That comment went over your head I think.
Regardless, IF the new mojo is the same SCIII blank as the avid only paint/coated, you're paying 80-100$ for an "upgrade" to kigan Z guides (on the avid X) that are, I believe, similar if not the same guide used on the Dobyns. These guides aren't anything special and don't warrant that massive price increase. Not to mention the issues Dobyns have had /w guide rings popping out /w their Kigans. Again, IF it is indeed built on the SCIII blank, you're paying 200$ for a rod series /w less models, the same blank, average guides, and a cork foregrip...all of which can be found but /w more models /w various powers/actions on a 120$ rod w/o a cork foregrip....hence...the comment "split grip avid". Where it is assembled nothing I'm concerned with. I had too many quality control issues /w guides and reel seats on previous LTB rods and below. Never an issue /w the Xtreme/Elites.
I imagine the standard avid will be "updated". While they are a fine rod, they aren't worth the 200$ price tag in today's market anymore. There are far too many other options /w better blanks/components. Their latest Legend Elite upgrade should take its place near the top of the off-the-shelf rods on paper. A quality cork full grip SCV blank /w torzite guides for less than 450$ is a bargain. I would imagine the avid shouldn't be far behind as far as a makeover/upgrade goes.
And hence a best in class value award. On 10/29/2015 at 11:48 PM, iabass8 said:Is the mojo a splt grip avid

Excellent, good luck with the new rods...
These rods may be built with sc3 material but they are not the same blanks as the avids. Avid blanks are made in the USA these are not. They also have different actions, power, length etc. Just like the differences between the avid and rage.
I'll still be buying some though. I hated the handle and guides on the rage, but liked the blanks. Now you can get them cheaper with a normal handle and guides.
