So What Will Quantum Do Now? 2024

fishing user avatarbooneangler reply :

Just wondering if Quantum will do any other promotional adds for there reels since yesterday was there deadline. I wonder if they will extend it or just not do anything. People bought a lot of Quantum reels cause of those rebates.

fishing user avatarfirefightn15 reply :

I don't kow anything about marketing tactics, but if quantum was looking to get a few of them reels out there looking for good reports in the baitcasting world, they sure got my vote.  I just can't find anything about them that's not spot on for me.

Some, I believe have an issue with overall size and the weight, but they are also the guys that, from what I read, are getting out and fishing for alot longer periods of time than me.

Cabelas has the Energy PT on sale for $99.99 and the Tour Edition for $129.99

For those who recently bought a Tour Edition reel for $240 to see them going for $130 has got to be like a punch in the head

Uhhh yeah, so I just about threw up. I got my Tour Edition less than a month ago for $240.  :'( :'( :'( :'( >:)

fishing user avatarTrent, B reply :

me 2 it makes me so mad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

fishing user avatarquant PT reply :

I just bought two Energys for $179 less $50 rebate for a net cost of $129 each last month.

A local tackle store had the Tour Edition on sale for $129 starting last Thursday so you would have been able to get the rebate as well for an $80 net cost.  It was hard for me to not buy one, but I have 3 energys and I want to get a Zillion or Chronarch next.  I love my Quantums, I just want to try something different.

fishing user avatarbooneangler reply :

wow that is a really good deal.

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

It's only a "good deal" if it's a good reel.

::)

fishing user avatarbassdocktor reply :

RW that's a pretty harsh comment. I have to ask have you ever used one? For $100 that's a heck of a reel. Sure they might be heavier but they are still a very nice reel.

fishing user avatarDan: reply :

I tend to agree with RW about Quantums, but I haven't really fished their stuff that much, and we all know that whatever works best for you is what works best for you. If you enjoy a reel, that's all that matters.

fishing user avatarRedlinerobert reply :

I'm not impressed with them at any price either.  Just my preferance.

fishing user avatarBallpark Frank reply :

I am really enjoying the Citicas I got recently, but I still love my Quantums. I can't explain it, but for me they are the best in my hands. I am hoping that Quantum has taken a cue from Shimano and Abu, and bring out some lighter and smaller(just slightly for me) reels. I am looking forward to ICAST to see their new stuff.

fishing user avatarThe Rooster reply :

What is ICAST?? :-?

I have always thought Quantum made good reels. Just always found something else I liked a little better is all. Only own one Quantum reel and it's 12 years old now. An old EX250, 2 bearing baitcaster, bought at Wal-Mart way back when for $50. Still using it today though.  It doesn't have 12 years of use on it though, for a long time it sat in a drawer at home.  Just this year and last year after about 5 years down, I got it out and have began catching bass on it again.

fishing user avatarbooneangler reply :

i like them myself.

fishing user avatarThe_Natural reply :

I picked up a couple of Quantum Tour Edition reels from my local Cabelas and will be putting them through the ringer.  I've talked with fellow tackle reviewers on Tackle Tour and the consensus is that Quantum has come a long way in the past few years, and this is an exceptional buy.  We'll see.  I refuse to conform to one or more brands solely message board statements.  Actually; judging by members that have actually used them, they get favorable reviews.  Look for a review in about a month.  In the mean time, here is Tackle Tour's review...

.

It is a meeting of fishing industry companies along with media participation.  The companies unveil their newest creations for the upcoming year and take massive orders from retailers.

Its basically the Detroit Auto Show of fishing.

fishing user avatarbooneangler reply :

i wonder why they dropped the prices like this on those tour editions and the PT series. Do you think people are not buying as much with the economy the way it is?

fishing user avatarBallpark Frank reply :

I think the reasoning for dropping prices is the same as Shimanos dropping, new models after ICAST. Other than the Code, Incyte and saltwater stuff, Quantum hasn't released anything really new since the Tour Edition PT in 06. I am betting that we are going to see a revamped Energy and Tour Edition that is smaller and lighter. I think the Code was an experiment for them, to see how we would respond to the smaller reel(although not as small as a Revo or Curado 100).

fishing user avatarhawgchaser reply :

I really like the size of the Code. I have 2 of them and they are very palmable and sit just perfect on any rod. If Quantum makes a PT similar to the Code, I will be all over it. Unless I get a couple of Revos this summer :)

fishing user avatarbooneangler reply :

so here is something for you to think about i called Tackle Warehouse yesterday cause i was gonna order a couple of the reels that were on sale and they was sold out completly so i call and ask when they are going to be getting some more in. And they told me that they would not be getting anymore in that they must be discontinuing that line of reels the PT and the Tour. So my thing is why havent we heard about the new ones? Can anyone shed any light on this?

Because they aren't Shimano's and no body is wetting their pants because a new one is coming out.

fishing user avatarBallpark Frank reply :

I have to ask the question; if the Shimanos are the epitome of reels, then why have they discontinued a two year old design(D model Curado and Citica) and are now creating new models for 08? Could it be that they cannot compete with the Revo?

In my personal experience there is no competition when it came to my preference. I owned and fished both a Citica and a Revo S. The Revo may have had more drag pressure and bearings...BUT the Citica felt more solid and my casting distance increased. In the end....the Revo S was sold. Again just my thoughts, not the thoughts of all.

It's called Consumerism. They come out with "new" "better" models every so often and people decide they have to have the new, better version, and end up giving more money to Shimano. It's the same reason car companies redesign their most popular cars every year.

They aren't.  Bassresource is kind of our little 'world' we live in, and Shimano's dominate here.  If you go down to the Texas Fishing Forum, they don't think the Fat Ika is anything special and will most likely recommend Trilene Big Game.  Don't get me wrong...Shimano has the majority of the reel market share (35%), but while fishing tournaments, the guys I draw I think represent what the workin' man is buying.  I bet I see more Bass Pro reels than anything.   Quite a few Quantums as well.  I'll tell you...the Revo is coming one VERY strong.  They are showing up on the deck of more and more boats.

What does this have to do with this thread.. "So What Will Quantum Do Now?"
fishing user avatar.RM. reply :

booneangler,

Nothing from Q could be a good thing...

Here is something more to think about, the Shimano® anglers here are prematurely wetting their pants over speculation of something new from Shimano®. They don't know and nobody in the know (Shimano) isn't talking, so the BR anglers are doing it all for everyone else. Even the people in the know (Shimano) on TT's forum say nothing, and the anglers from here keep harping.

So maybe nothing from Q is a good thing...

Just my .02¢ from the bench.....

fishing user avatarbooneangler reply :

well i dont think quantum makes junk if that is what you are saying i think shimano is a good company to i just use them for the spinning reels. I like a Quantum and Abu Garcia for a baitcaster.

fishing user avatarKvD reply :

boone, i think Cabela's still has the pt reels for 99 bucks... but all they have left is the 7:1 burner ratio....

Reel Mech, this thread was highjacked the second the Shimano Possee showed up. One member even went back and changed his post to be less harsh.

fishing user avatarBassyak reply :

I've been pretty partial to Quantums over the past few years.  The previous model Energy PTs were the first "high end" reels that I bought when really getting geared up for bass fishing about 4 or 5 years ago.  I still have four of them (2 E600PTs, an E650PT, and an E640PT) and aside from the crappy coating on a couple of them that has started to peel off, they're in great shape--still very smooth and long casters, as well as easy to control with the external ACS.  The profile fits my hand well and even though they're a little heavier than my Curado 100DSV and Pflueger Summit, I still use them all the time (espectially the 640 with a 4.4:1 Ratio for crankin').  I also have an '07 Accurist AC500PT and two KVD Signature Series Baitcasters (KV600C w/ 5.1:1 and KV600CX w/ 6.2:1) that are basically the same as the Accurist, minus the silver w/ red accents paint job and a couple other minor features, and they are smooth, solid, and palmable reels for their price as well.  They also have the flipping switch that comes in handy.  Finally, I have a Code CD870CX that I just got a couple months ago.  It's my least favorite Quantum so far, which probably follows as I paid the least for it.  I don't like the shape as much and the gearing is not as smooth as any of my other reels.  Maybe I just got a bad one, but I don't really care for it and will probably be trading it in for a Citica 100 or maybe another Curado 100 (or I might save up for a bit and try the Pflueger Patriarch).  But I imagine I'll be holding on the the others for awhile because they've been good, solid reels for me thus far.

I fished Quantum exclusively back in the day, but I will admit they fell apart and ended up with misaligned gears.  That was before aluminum frames were the norm (and I had the top of the line).   I have owned a cheap Shimano with a graphite frame that also ended up grinding...I'm chalking this up to the graphite frame.  I haven't owned an aluminum framed Quantum until this point; we'll see how they do.  Granted I don't keep reels more than a couple of years.  I never let my reels get dated.

fishing user avatarDawson reply :

I like to have several brands of reels on hand, so I have a couple from most of the big brands. I have 3 Quantums. 2 Energy PT's and an Accurist AC500CX. I love all 3 of them. I have ran them through the ringer I might add. They feel great in my hand, very smooth, and reliable. I cannot agree with some people that Quantum makes only junk reels. I am only speaking from personal experience with these 2 models. I love em.
