fishing user avatarburleytog reply :

Reel - 158 grams

Spool - 11.5 grams

Will update as I get deeper inside. ;)

fishing user avatarDan: reply :

grams? what, are we in france?!?!

fishing user avatarsteezy reply :

I didnt weigh mine but shimano says the reel weighs 5.5 oz.  It is very light and feels as light as my steez that is rated at 5.5 oz.

158grms comes in at 5.6 ounces.  I'd

ask for a refund. ;D

fishing user avatarThe_Natural reply :

11.5 grams is an extremely light spool.....lighter than a Daiwa Pixy (the standard by which all finesse reels are judged).  Most anglers won't appreciate how big of a stat that is.....it's really eye opening for the enthusiast crowd.    I predict the new Core 50 to be as good of a caster as the Steez or any other reel made....no arguing there.

fishing user avatarsteezy reply :

I will admit it and I own Steez, the Core 50 casts better and cost $100 less !

16 oz = 454 grams

Therefore,

(158 gr/454 gr)*16 oz =  5.568 [ch8776] 5.6 oz. Hmm...  Shimano didn't round up and truncated the computation in the hundredth spot.  ;D

Multi-Variable Caculus class next.  ;) ;D

Or they weighed one dry, as all manufacturers probably do, to save what weight isn't part of the actual product. Same reason they don't weigh it with line in it... and you don't use it without line. ::D

Logic, I got an A.  ;) ;D

fishing user avatarDan: reply :

dude, that is a nice match for the LTX. Does anyone else really like the look of the thumb bar?

fishing user avatarBantam1 reply :

It could be the scale calibration or quality of the scale. Our scale shows the reel at 5.5 ounces or 155.9 grams. The spool weight bounced from 10.8-11 grams with the break weights. Either way the reel and spool are very light  ;)

fishing user avatarfishntime reply :

Looks like an awesome reel.  Ive got to wait to get mine till December. >;)

fishing user avatardan1942 reply :

How do you like the smaller thumb grips??

fishing user avatarBantam1 reply :

I have no idea what model ours is. I know the thing is massive and very expensive. It is calibrated often. Like I said different scales. I see the same thing when reloading ammunition. The most accurate is still the beam type. Having a cell phone in your pocket is enough to change the readings on a digital scale.

fishing user avatarburleytog reply :

It holds about 60 yards of 15. lb Stren flourocarbon.

fishing user avatarJimzee reply :

Coming from a die hard Daiwa fan...Sir, ya done good.

What a beautiful little reel.  (Now back to reality)

;)

fishing user avatarburleytog reply :

I can say without reservation that this reel is friggin sick.

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

Great thread, UrleyBay!

;D ;D ;D

fishing user avatarThe Yankee Fist reply :

Hey man, thanks for this thread....I like the side by side photos. Maybe I will get a low profile. Bronzefly took the time to explain all of the ins and outs of today's gear on the phone and said I should look into low profile light reels for a GLX casting rod.

One question, is that cast control a clicking type?

Those photos helped me see the size difference between this new one and the Curado. I've held the Curado but not this new Core. Thanks! ;)

fishing user avatardan1942 reply :

Hey Urley do you know what size the bearings are for the spool?  I can't find any schematics for it.  I was about to order some Boca orange seals for my curado and thought I might order some for the new core as well which should be showing up today from fedex ;)

Thanks!

Dan

fishing user avatarburleytog reply :

Spent most of the night using the reel to throw a jig.  Took a bit of time to adjust, it is quite a bit more free than the Curado.  Throws a 1/4 oz. jig better than the Curado as well.

First fish on the reel?  A 3 lb. smallie.

How much do they weigh when they are full of line?

I've changed out mine on my Aldebarans - they're the standard 10x3x4 sized spool bearings 8-)

fishing user avatardan1942 reply :

Awesome! I am ordering some  orange seal bearings today for it

fishing user avatarCigarlover 1 reply :

I wouldn't know whether to fish it of frame it. A truly awesome reel. Great thread.

I think the point is that even full, they are lighter than other spools since it's a lighter spool...  well more so since they hold so little line.   :;)

fishing user avatarThe Yankee Fist reply :

Alright, STOP! My God! Bronzefly informed me on this whole "super tune reel" thing. This is sick...you guys will make me broke! ;D

So ummmm....hi-perf bearings you say? ;)

I agree, great post.

fishing user avatarsteezy reply :

You guys gotta get one of these reels, it just plain out of this world sick. I cant stop fishing with mine, havent touched an other reel in the past 2 days. I'll be ordering another one soon, just wish they offered a 6.x ratio in addition to the 7.

Hey, Bantam1 any idea if there is a 6.x ratio on the drawing board?

BTW, can anyone say from experience how it compares to the chronarch 50mg.

fishing user avatarBassn Blvd reply :

Well, mine will be here Wednesday .  Now I'm gonna have a few nights of restless sleep waiting for it to arrive.

I guess it's time to start building the new GLX for it.

The Aldebaran is offered in 5.8:1 in Japan.  I've been thinking about seeing what it would take to get a set of those gears.  The only bad thing is that it would mean buying another Core 50.

I think a lot of people are waiting to hear that comparison.  I am still fond of the Chronarch MG50.  I just don't see that Core being that much better.  Considering my MG50, with ceramic spool bearings, can cast any lure that I own; it's hard to replace a winner like that.

You don't "replace" the CH50MG, you simply add

the Core 50MG to your collection!
