Battle Of The 100$ Rods 2025

fishing user avatarThe Wilkin reply :

Right now I'm between the BPS carbon lite and the Abu Garcia veritas. But I'm open to any suggestions. I'm pairing it with a lew's TSS. What do you guys recommend?

fishing user avatarbassh8er reply :

Both are good rods, can't go wrong with either.

I have 2 CL spinning rods and 5 Veritas casting rods if that helps, and I love them. I like the Veritas rods better than my Mojos that I got rid of, but I don't think you can miss either way.

fishing user avatarMatthew Veillion reply :

I just picked up a st croix mojo bass and its pretty nice but i havent used it enough to reccomend it

fishing user avatarmatt996 reply :

Abu Garcia veritas is the one! lighter and way more sensitive. As far as st. Croix goes the only good rods are the ones made in park falls, wi. Those are 170 and up. so on a 100 dollar budget go with the veritas you wont regret it!

fishing user avatarswmofisher reply :

Nothing against the veritas because I almost bought one but since I bought the carbonlite... My father and I have a combined 7 rods! We use them mainly for jig fishing ( 7' H) and you can feel everything on the bottom plus they have a great backbone and are very light weight. I've heard of more than one veritas breaking from being too skinny towards the tip. Trust me if you go with the carbonlite you won't be sorry.

fishing user avatarDiggy reply :

I have both in 7ft m/h. I prefer my Veritas. If you want a micro guide version, they are 70 bucks from walmart, shipped to store.

Both are good rods but the veritas feels better to me. Abus customer service is top notch. The overall warranty will be longer on the Abu. I lost a piece on my Revo, they shipped it to me, no charge.

They just warrantied a rod for me with no hassle, no receipt, let me pick another size/action and didnt charge me any shipping.

People seem to love the carbon lite for bottom contact, but it can handle other things well if you do choose it. I caught huge snakeheads on it and its held up but the Veritas is my 1st love and plan to have a few more. I haven't had any breakage and the warrantied damage was from buying one that was mistreated in store at BPS, something overlooked.

fishing user avatarsarcazmo reply :

Much prefer my carbonlite to my veritas.  In fact i replaced my veritas with a Phenix recon 2 715.

For 100 bucks I havent fished a finer rod than the *** series fwiw.

fishing user avatarLgMouthGambler reply :

Carbon lite. That rod seems better to me.

fishing user avatarflyfisher reply :

I have the veritas and mojo and i think they are both very similar sticks.  I wasn't as keen on the veritas at first for some reason, can't put a finger on exactly why but it just didn't feel right to me.

After using it more i am liking it more and more.  Bottom line is i don't think you can go wrong with either and you can find the veritas for 79.99 at a bunch of places and for that price it is probably one of the better rods out there.

fishing user avatartylerwyp reply :

I was in the same boat a few months ago and decided for the carbonlite. Everyone seemed to love it and i couldnt get past the carbonlite being extremely light weight while also having an extremely strong backbone. I laso loved the sensitivity of the carbonlite vs the veritas even when you pick them up in the store. All things said, you probably couldnt go wrong with either one but i would go with the carbonlite as a proud happy owner of one! Good luck with your decision.

fishing user avatarjsc4324 reply :

I'm probably no help but I was trying to figure out the same dilemma last week. I already had a carbonlight that I love so took a trip to bps to manhandle them both side by side. I ended up with the veritas but it took me over an hour in the rod isle to decide. They feel almost the same to me in weight. I like the grip better on the carbonlite but liked the overall feel of the veritas. Either way you will be happy.

fishing user avatarwebertime reply :

*** *** would be my choice.  What are you going to do with it?  Because TW has some really nice rods for $100+/- right now on sale.

fishing user avatarBassinLou reply :

Cannot speak of the veritas however I own a carbonlite and I really like and enjoy this rod.

fishing user avatarArv reply :

I own 2 Veritas'. While I think its a good rod for the price, it is not comfortable in my hands and I am not a fan of the reel seat. I can't speak much for the Carbonlite, but I do like the grip a lot more.

fishing user avatarendless reply :

I have two Carbonlites that I like. I have 7' MH-F casting rod for Spinnerbaits and buzzbaits and I have a 6'9 spinning M-XF for shaky and wacky at times.

fishing user avatarcbass12 reply :

I have a 7'6" MH, 7' MH, and 7' M carbonlite (all casting) and I am very happy with them. I have owned a veritas in the past but was not pleased with the reel seat. It dug into my fingers too much and was not very comfortable when setting the hook.

fishing user avatarBassingNick reply :

I tried out the veritas and did not like it all, just felt too stiff..7mh. I have 3 carbonlites and love em!!!

fishing user avatardeaknh03 reply :

I have many different rods, I dont really favor any particular brand, but I have found the black *** to be the best rod in the $100 range, and the denali jadewood a close second. I have a veritas, and I would choose either the *** or the jadewood over the veritas any day.

fishing user avatarredboat reply :

I have 8 veritas rods, 4 baitcasters, 4 spinners.  I like 'em because they are lighter than most anything out there; but having said that: I've fished for over 50 years, and in all that time I've only broken three rods.  The first was my fault, a new St Croix I left on the deck that caught on a tree limb.

That was when I learned that St Croix rods have no warranty.  Don't believe it?  Go check out their web site, or read the attached "rod warranty".

So, fast forward 8 years: The next two rods I broke were both veritas, one spinning, the other baitcaster - within 20 minutes of each other.  Abu replaced both (I had to pay shipping), but you should beware: The lighter weight comes with a penalty, these rods are extremely fragile.  The Abu web site is full of comments from guys who broke them.  I am VERY careful with them now!

fishing user avatarMud River Matt reply :

I have 2 of those exact setups. I love the Veritas and Lews combo. I am in the process of trying to get all my rods switched to the Veritas. I love these rods, light and tough, with great sensitivity. Good luck, hope this helps.

fishing user avatarThe Wilkin reply :

Thanks for your opinions everyone right now I'm leaning toward the Carbon lite cause I'm pretty tough on my tackle and I don't want to have to pay for shipping if something unfortunate were to happen

fishing user avatarMCS reply :

Carbonlite!!!! Love this rod.

Well...........the crap started to get a little deep on that one. They do have a rod warranty, and IMHO the best in the business. 5 years on there imported rods, and Premiers, lifetime on the Avids and up. If the rod breaks because of faulty craftsmanship, they replace it, all you pay is the shipping to and from the factory. If the rod breaks because ............oh I don't know...........some one slams it in a car door, or in your case gets it hung on a tree limb, you pay the shipping to and from, and $50 for a new rod. But the rod has to be IN WARRANTY, which is less than 5 years old on an import/premier, and like I said the Avid and up is lifetime. I have used both services before and they are about as hassle free as it gets. But...........I can read and understand the written english language, something, which by your ignorant post, tells me you struggle with.

fishing user avatarflyfisher reply :

The st croix warranty is pretty good but way more of a value with the higher end rods as you are paying for less of a percentage of replacement cost.

Even on the monos and premiers $50 isn't bad for a new rod IMO.

fishing user avatar11justin22 reply :

I own carbonlite, veritas and mojo. I like the carbonlite the best. Everyone's opnion will differ.

Apparently not well enough to understand a written warranty.

Bps warranty is 1 year over the counter/total, abu is 3 years...The ten bucks shipping isnt that much if something happens, you may not even have to pay in some instances(abu). I boat flipped 2 snakeheads ,1 over 7lbs today up a high bank today with the veritas and it held up.They also had to be yanked out of the lilies. The breakage issues some have make them seem more fragile than they may be.

Show me where I am wrong..............untill then your full of crap stating that St Croix has "no warranty".

fishing user avatarskeletor6 reply :

Mods, any way to sticky the "best rods under $100 threads"? Seems like it comes up many times and would be helpful.

Nonetheless, I think I would give the *** black a shot just from hearing good feedback on it recently.

fishing user avatarThe Wilkin reply :

I went to BPS today and got the 7' MHF Carbon Lite and I fished for about and hour and absolutely loved it. Thanks to everyone for your help

You are still overly arrogant, so no, I will not explain it to you.  Next time I suggest you open with something like, "Why do you say that?" instead of personal insults.  You never know, if you're polite and listen you may actually learn something.

You don't have to explain it to me, I have read, USED, and understand St croix's warranty............you do not. Arrogant?? That's actually a compliment compaired to what most people call me. Twice now you have had the oppertunity to explain what you meant by saying "St croix has no warranty" and twice now you dance around it. I know BS when I see it, and man............your full of it on that one. If calling you out is arrogant, so be it.
